R4 Match Threads: a brief commentary​

GUM-WON had just two rookies, but neither disappointed. Both omgfridge and Elmer_Judd had good showings, and whoever were chosen would be a deserving match-thread winner. For the Committee, the Gumby was a bit better and got his second nomination.

CIW-BOM saw six rookies getting lots of involvement. It was not an easy pick for the Committee. R2 Torch Kilroy won the thread, which left the door open for another player to be the nominee. FootyGuy13's attempt in getting his second consecutive nomination was strong, but fell just short against an improving MITS.

GCR-LVB was all about the cubs. It didn't matter that guero had won the Torch in the previous round. Muddiemoose overcame both tony and guero and secured his second nomination.

HAW-ROY had the Roy rookie trinity practically competing against themselves, since the most active hawklet, PMBangers, is already a Torch. Nonetheless, despite all having a great week, perennial nominee Supersuns won the thread fair and square – the fourth time in a row.

DRA-SCS had two rookies who had been nominated in the previous round. Still, it ended being practically a Dragon-only show. Just like every other round, R4 has a Dragon among the nominees, with T2B_ being the club representative for the second time.

FUR-DEM was supposed to be a face-off between two rookies. However, there was no competition. Mister M simply ran over Toump Ass to get his third nomination out of four.

Each week, Committee members must justify their choices of match thread winners. This not only helps us choosing who wins the Torch, but it also works as reference for all the rookies on what it is expected from them in the match threads.

When you model your SFA persona on the character Bubby then it's pretty easy to understand the style of posting that firebrand Bomber rookie recruit MITS would bring to the club. His style is just as described in that of Bubby in the quote above. Equal parts deranged, equal parts naive.

The naivety might explain why our latest match thread Torcher is serving his second suspension to Banhammer Prison in basically as many weeks. Perhaps he just misses being trapped in a small enclosed space. It must be the Stockholm kicking in, one of many syndromes my unhinged counterpart carries.

Luckily for the Bombers though, he has a few other strings to his bow, namely an unhinged yet sharp wit and a definite misunderstanding of where the 'line' lies in the SFA. Strings to his bow also include ...

He may have been considered in guero's shadow before, but this has shown that he can stand on his own four feet, and he even showed the courage to attempt to battle Elton Johns Wig in another thread.

We’re four rounds in, and already the cream of the season 30 rookie crop is rising to the top. One such creamy riser is young Roy Supersuns, who is the only person to be put up for a Torch of the Week nomination four times. Will he break through this time? Round 4 witnessed a very active T2B_. Luckily for the Committee and for the Swamprats, he wasn't as active as in the previous week, posting roughly half as many posts than in the round prior. It's the second consecutive round that T2B_ is chosen ahead of the other Dragon rookies; especially VandoHawk, winner of the first two match threads. T2B_ has found its own style, combining:

- self-depreciative jokes with arrogant banter; sometimes, in the same post ("Be warned, Rats. I kick like a mule and handball like a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man, but I hit harder than a Mack truck and run all day. ... and now I'm amped up for a game that's bloody days away.")

- support to his teammates ("Nah Bradesmaen is the best wingman I ever saw.")

- getting into the opposition's skin ("Prefer Swamprat well done.... less likely to get diseases.")

- knowledge of the league characters and intricacies ("ND is posting the game? We're screwed then ")

- suggestions for improving of the league's image ("I too thought SFA stood for Sweet Freaky A*holes. I want a refund.")

- share of personal-life issues ("Sounds like we're in the same boat, except my partner and I are not married (yet). Keep buying preg tests and hoping Aunt Flow doesn't visit every month. Lol.")

- display of common-sense wisdom ("It's a toss up between [gynaecologists] and retail staff in terms of who has to deal with more campaigners.")

- avocado, lots and lots of avocado ("Legit never thought of deep fried avocado. Had to be the Americans that came up with that.")

T2B_ is clearly a strong candidate, not only for this week's Torch, but for the Pyre (best poster of the season) and for the S30 Rising Star.
