Quite amazing Ralph has framed it that way.

Houston first approached Ken before anyone else about wanting to go home (said approach happened mid last year). And Ken, thinking he controls everything, essentially promised Houston that he would be traded at the end of the season.

If Ken had kept his mouth shut and simply referred Dan to the list management team to discuss, Port would have had far more bargaining power at the trade table.

Ken didn't open his mouth out of selflessness - he did it out of stupidity and ignorance.
This is also what I heard and it makes me very nervous regarding Bergman and Butters for the same reason.

This guy would genuinely blow up this list before he left so that later it looks like his tenure was actually better than people gave credit for. He's extremely good at controlling the narrative around him regardless of how bad it is.

Well the big difference now is that Ken has an official end date, and all list management decisions going forward are being run through Cripps, CD and Carr.

Just proving what many feared - within the Port Adelaide Football Club, there is a splinter faction called the Ken Hinkley Football Club.

Horrifying that this has been allowed to happen.

That at least explains why we didn’t even try to pull a Carlton with Gibbs, who put their foot down over a vastly inferior player, held firm, and made the Crows come back 12 months later with 2 first rounders.

It's also clear the list management team viewed the package they got for Houston as a better overall package than what they could have gotten if they delayed it by a year, specifically in terms of the value of future picks because of the nature of these upcoming drafts (severely compromised due to F/S, NGA and Tassie).

I'm sure this trade will be talked about for the next 5 years but I really don't think it's going to be the difference either way in terms of the fortunes of Collingwood or Port during that period.

My only disappointment with this deal was that we gave up a future first. That, this year, is a genuine chance of being a top 10 pick, top 12 at the very least. The whole thing about this draft being compromised is strange because there's still 10-20 prospects in this pool that are open and would suit our needs. To give the future first away cheaply and take on Atkins is an absolute embarrassment.

Collingwood have a clear plan and arent in denial that their future is in jeopardy with the age of list. They are also a Victorian powerhouse that can always land targets. They are all chips in to win it this year.

We have been in denial for a decade about who we realistically are and there is currently no plan or direction. Are we moving towards a premiership? Are we rebuilding on the run? Are we changing our gameplan next year? And if so, how long do we expect that to take before we become genuine contenders again? This club has had more questions than answers in the past decade.

Did he actually admit that publicly? I don't recall him doing it, was a few years back now though.

To think the Prelim humiliation and Russell Ebert game disgrace came within three (competitive) games of each other, yet the club and players seemed to bristle at the criticism as if it was unjustified and over the top. **** me.
"What are you worried about - we still made finals, so we had a successful year. Geez you Port fans are negative nancies."

Definitely premature. Voss hasn't been with Carlton for anywhere near 13 years - he's got at least 8 years to go yet 🥴.
Wow those Carlton fans must be fickle white noise supporters, unappreciative mob. They need to treat Voss with respect, he can't kick it for them.

For me the most selfless thing Ken has ever done was the plane dance after the Hawks game last year. He would have known at that stage he would be handing over to Josh Carr, yet he wanted to make sure Port Adelaide would remember to soar after he leaves. He also selflessly coached like shit the week after to let Josh be able to savour the taste of breaking our grand final drought. What a man.
