I must say at the end of 19 I didn't expect 2 prelims in 20 and 21 with ken still at the helm I thought maybe bottom parts of the top 8 at best. But I wonder if Monty and shoey had alot to do with the improvement.
But in the end ken has been there a decade and someone else deserves a go with this list.
He won't get sacked right now lets be real, but next year is it he either makes a granny or he packs his bags. I even think koch thinks the same he won't be able to defend ken if we fail again next year it's gone on too long

Why wait? We already know how next year is going to go so why not change it now?

Being that he's not going anywhere for 12 months, the least both Hinkley and the club could do is rediscover their hard edge. Bland, corporate speak has infested Hinkley's approach. A lot has been written on here about what happened after Phil Walsh's passing, and it's clear that impacted his competitiveness, which was fanatical in the beginning.

We never have the head coach (or assistant coaches) establish levels of expected performance from individuals or the team via the media.
We never attempt to influence the narrative around the officiating of the game.
We never attempt to influence and manipulate the approach of opponents through the media.

I could actually stomach Hinkley, Koch and the rest of the brass if they actually made some attempt to play the game. What we are seeing is not incompetence, but a lack of mettle to rock the boat. If you've read the Boys Club, you'd understand that the AFL has us exactly where they want us in that respect - compliant, unquestioning, lacking ruthlessness.

If it's felt that there is something to be gained from protecting players from scrutiny, accountability, hard conversations - and it seems like that is the approach we've taken, 'connection', Ken being a father figure - then it hasn't translated into performance.

So, given that our hands are tied, instead of screaming "sack this, sack" that into the void, I'd simply ask the club to adjust their messaging. Take note from Clarkson, Beveridge, C Scott. Keep the players, opponents and AFL on edge. Demand results, publicly. Then I could almost, just, maybe cop that sort of performance - because then we'd be following a football club, not a business.

Is the AFL making these people like Whatley and club ambassadors protect Ken for financial reasons, are we this financially ****ed that we can't pay him out 6 months? This is just bizarre to me. What is with this guy?? the more this drags on the more I believe ken is an AFL plant , it's just weird how much of a media darling he is?

Buckley was sacked for less..heck every coach has been

Why are people trying to logically analyse the points being made by Whateley, Rucci, Cornes et al and then questioning why they would say those things?

Ken is their friend. They like him. They're using their platforms in the media to say nice things about their friend, because they want their friend to keep his well-paying job. Whether they even believe the things they're saying, much less have an ability to logically defend them, isn't the point.

Is he that close to Whatley and Rucci though???
Fair enough Corners because he gifted him 300 games but I don't understand the other two..

Rucci: Where were the people that wanted Hinkley gone 2 weeks ago?

Mick Malthouse took 11 years to deliver Collingwood a Premiership

Stay the course

This shit is so bizarre.

They weren't anywhere because a lot of us were willing to give Ken his chance to coach out the season and prove he could deliver. He has again failed to deliver.

The narrative seems to be that you're either a HaTeR or a True Believer™. You can't just be someone that wants a rational level of accountability, and to not have our players constantly get thrown under the bus and scapegoated.

At this point the best we can hope for is that Hinkley is caught up in some kind of illegal activity outside of football in the off season and is forced to resign his position.

What's this that it's a more senior role as well??? It appears it's exactly what he was doing at Port
Yeah that's what ruffled me. It's the same role with a different name, yet on the surface at least we didn't even try to stop him. I guess he saw he'd have more chance of an eventual senior coach appointment there than here.

Did anyone listen to Rowe and Tredders when they were debating whether Hinkley was a good coach?

Rowe went on to say that he would defend Ken and that he has extracted the absolute best out of the players. If the players were lemons, he had squeezed the pips out of them and that there was nothing left to give.

Tredrea simply replied: "Well, then he has coached his best."

I can't find the audio but it was something along those lines.

Tredrea seems to be the only voice of reason in SA. He is not explicitly calling for Hinkley's head but calmly explains that it was not only the players fault (as Whately, Rowe, Rucci, et al would have you believe) but it was a combination of the players and coaching staff, but the buck stops with the Head Coach.

Oh and Warren, I loved your "It's only a six month payout" line after the game.
When Rowe is sticking up for you.... Ya know it's time to walk away.

I accept that Ken may have been the right guy standing nine years ago, but like everything in life, things change. Even if he was the right guy to get is where we are, he isn't the guy to get us where we want to be. There is no shame in either he, and/or Club management, admitting that and allowing change.

It's the doubling down by the Club and media that does my head in.

There are 4 coaches still around since Hinkley started coaching us in 2013.

Damien Hardwick 3 Premierships
John Longmire 1 Premiership. 1 Runner up
Chris Scott 1 Premiership 1 Runner up.
Ken Hinkley 0 Premierships 0 Runners Up.

Simpson started 1 year after Hinkley for 1 Premiership 1 Runner Up.
Beveridge started 2 years after Hinkley for 1 Premiership (and another Premiership/Runner Up)

Edit*(Thanks Pappagello) Forgot Leon Cameron. He was a year after Hinkley as well and he's got them to a GF and he coaches a franchise with no soul.

Other long standing coaches given the arse by the clubs in the last 6 months
Clarkson 4 Premierships
Buckley 1 Runner Up.

Ken should personally apologise to every Port supporter who was at the ground and refund them the cost of their ticket from his own salary. Then sack himself.
I don't want Ken's apology... I just want him gone from port Adelaide.

P.s I would gladly have my money back after that piss poor performance.

Edit: Koch you can **** off as well.

Also Don Pyke and Ross Lyon. Both made GFs (multiple for Lyon) and still got the arse.

The only comparable situation is Leon Cameron, long underperforming tenure considering the talent at his disposal, but even he’s made a GF.
