Don't think there's a limit, but if you have 2 guns, you'll only get one as someone will offer a better pick. You need to have them in descending order of ability so you could offer First Round for a gun, Second Round for someone quite good, and then etc. But it will never happen that way. We won't fill up on Father and Son picks in a draft if they all happen to be the same age.

Still not sure how Melb got away with Viney at pick 27 or something like that.
If they're both guns don't you just have to take them with both of your first two selections, even if teams bid on both? the same way WB got Liberatore/Wallis?

Hope you're right. I'm not sure on that one. Here's a thing I Googled.

'From Melbourne, Victoria, Liberatore was drafted to the Bulldogs from the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup with the 40th selection in the 2010 AFL Draft as a father-son selection, after Sydney nominated their intention to draft him with first-round pick (pick 21) if available.[1] Fellow schoolmate and friend Mitch Wallis was also drafted at pick 22, after the two had played together for club and school St Kevin's College, since a young age.'

If Rice and Coughlan were top 5 picks and were rated as such by other clubs and we had pick 10 and 28 we would have to use both of those picks on them, not use out first round on one or the other.

Note that f/s bidding happens before trade month so you're effectively committing to those two boys with no way of trading those picks off

By the time they are ready to be drafted, we should be very aware of if we are willing to commit

Port Adelaide bid their round-one selection for Wallis while Sydney put up their round-two pick for Liberatore.

No, Sydney bid pick 21, and the Dogs had already taken Wallis with pick 22, so they used their next available pick, which was 40. It's always the next available pick, eg North could have gotten Kelly and McDonald last year if Kelly's father had played more games for North, even though they were both top 5 selections

The Sydney Swans nominated its round two pick (No.39) for Liberatore - the son of former Brownlow medallist Tony - and the Bulldogs matched that with their second-round pick, the 40th selection in the draft.

Interesting, I can't find the actual article (possibly because websites don't store their data, and I keep getting redirects as the webpages no longer exist), but Wallis and Liberatore were both rated as top 10 picks, so I find it unlikely that no one would have bid for Liberatore before pick 39. As it is, I'm going off this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Liberatore
"Sydney nominated their intention to draft him with first-round pick (pick 21) if available"

FWIW, the AFL rules (http://www.aflrules.com.au/afl-players/afl-draft/) say that they have to "match the highest bid with their next available selection". If their next available selection is two rounds after the bid because they've already matched a better offer for two different players (for example), then it still counts

It was a foregone conclusion that both were going to the dogs anyway.

However, Wallis was bid on first in which the Dogs were forced to use there first pick (Pick 22) by Port (Pick 16). Sydney then used there second round (Pick 38) instead of there first (Pick 21) because that was before the dogs next pick as well (Pick 40), just in case they got called out.

Random question: Can adopted children be taken under the father son rule?
im reckon the afl would allow it if the adopted the child early on

Must have been 1 or 2 created out of the Saints Disco in the 70's! Brings to mind the story of a West Indian keeper a few years ago whose father happened to be a former West Indian great. Problem was the Dad already had a family. When the illegitimate son got in the WI team he claimed him as his son!

It was David Murray/ Everton Weekes.

ST KILDA

Bailey Rice (Dandenong Stingrays)
Son of: Dean
Height: 183 cm
Position: 81 kg
2014 Games: 2
Average Stats: 10 disposals, 1.5 marks, 1.5 tackles
Draft Eligible: 2015

The son of ex-Carlton and St Kilda forward Dean Rice, who played 116 games for the Saints between 1987-1993 and 118 games for the Blues between 1994-2001. Bailey will have a rare choice to make in deciding between the two clubs, should both opt for his services. Rice has played just the two games so far this season, and is gradually working his way into the midfield of the Stingrays. There isn’t a whole lot to digest from just two appearances, however he’s been earmarked to feature strongly in the back half of the season.

James Coghlan (Bendigo Pioneers)
Son of: Frank
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 70 kg
Position: Midfielder/Defender
2014 Games: 5
Average Stats: 10 disposals, 1.4 marks, 2 tackles
Draft Eligible: 2015

James Coghlan is yet to really assert himself on a game so far this season. He’s been trialled in a number of different positions, but he just can’t break away from that ‘bit-player’ tag which is frustrating, because he looks a prospect. He isn’t a high possession getter, nor does he have an asset that really makes him stand out. He’s rated high internally, but it hasn’t yet reflected on the football field and he’s yet to feature in any of the Pioneers’ best. As a bottom-aged player, the development will come but like the Pioneers as a collective at the moment, he’s really struggling.

Jason Blake

It must be great to spend more time with your family?
We had a little baby boy called Ryder who was born on June 10. It was fantastic and he’s been a handful! We also have a little girl called Maddison who is 20 months old. We have the pair now, it’s brilliant, and I certainly look forward to coming home and seeing them despite a couple of sleepless nights at the moment.
