Nah, just watching on TV but im pretty sure he was playing more wing this week and would be confident in saying most of his possessions were further up the field - he seemed to be delivering the ball forward rather than sitting in a pocket waiting for it to come
Sinc was lining up on the wing, and found quite a bit of his footy there. If he can find the consistency then he's gonna have a great year, was absolutely fantastic today.

Elite disposal. Have said it before but he's as good as any of our young players.

Acres just does a few things that makes you go "wow!" and makes it look easy. Breaks away from tacklers like they're not even there, you can't tackle the Blake "the eel" Acres.
Just needs to eliminate the few things he does every week that also makes you go "Wow! What the hell is he doing" ;) ****ing gun though.

Bit of a long post coming so skip if don't want to read;

Just want to send out my love for Sam Gilbert.

Bloke has coming back from the brink and gives 100% every time.

He cops his fair share of criticism but he busts his gut every time he plays. There were 2 times last week where he run back as hard as he could to help defensively and one of the times he ran down Motlop.

This week; he plays in the ruck. Sure, it's not his strongest position but his response; he gave us a number in the midfield duel and made sure we were bloody competitive in the centre. Your sacrificial role may be lost on the stat sheet but not on me or the supporters base.

I salute you Sam, you are a true Saint warrior and I am glad you are playing for St Kilda.

Tl;dr: get around Sam Gilbert
Our new Jason Blake. Cult player.

Just watching the highlights. The amount of goals we kicked from a guy running into goal all on his own 5m out is laughable. The Hawks have deadset given up. They look like a broken team.

I think having Paddy out made it harder for them as they were getting run off their feet by Roo, Bruce and Members who are all super fit.
Bruce not in the ruck just had more energy and the extra mid made the passing chains more dynamic and ment they had more in the tank in the second half.
If Billings had kicked straight we would of looked like a top 4 team

Defence is outstanding, best it has been for years. All it needs is Webster to clean up his kicking
I don't get It, sure he sprays a few, its a given, expect it. His kicking is pretty bloody good actually, defensive pressure is enormous, effort is 110%, provides run and has courage pouring out of him, yet all people focus on is the 1 or 2 errant kicks, go look at the forward half for shit kicking.

Significantly Pleasing

I'm not going to post stats, but no way could you argue that overall Longer played better than McEvoy today...

5 possessions is really quite pathetic.

Mumford will destroy him if he plays like that on Friday.

Just does not contribute. Mumford will kill him in the ruck and around the ground.

any chance any and all Hickey vs Longer discussion can be taken to a seperate thread, you've worn us all out and its only round 5

You're the type of man that'd never grow a man bun.

And for that I respect you. People should take your posts more seriously.

Choo... sry... Louis would so have Stuv's undercut mullet, needs a haircut to suit that mouth

Webster's problem isnt his kicking, its his decision making. Most of the time when he turns it over is due to an overly risky kick that didnt quite hit the foot wide margin of error. If he backed off the risky shit some he would **** up far less. Thats experience though.

Clarkson said in his post match presser that if these performances continued that there would have to be 'catastrophic change' within the club - either via playing the kids or a shift in game plan.

Sounds good to me!

I was just thinking about Jake Carlisle and his start to the club and had a few observations:
  • Judging by the whole snapchat thing he might not be the smartest guy off the field but Jake seems to have a really high footy IQ - he seems to makes great decisions out there on the field consistently
  • Linked to the above, with Jake we are getting 2 defenders in 1. Not only can he play the shut-down role but, based on his high footy smarts, he knows exactly when to zone off his man and go third up when needed or get involved in an attacking chain. This gives us great flexibility and lets Robbo and Jimmy Webster off the chain to do damage offensively.
  • He just doesn't miss targets by foot. Seeing how big he is, this is even more impressive as big blokes are often pretty ordinary kicks.
I honestly think we are only just starting to see the best of him as well. Reckon he will get better and better once he gets more games into him after a year out of the game. I still pinch myself we have him.

What a great day. Up just before 5am to watch the game. Great result, loved the way we played. And then off to golf for an 8.30 tee off, and I smashed my opponents in similar style. Love days like this after a great win. A nice glow. Who says my moods are reflected by how the Saints go?! My missus certainly does.....

Positives, and there are lots:
-Koby Stevens. This is why we brought him in, he wins the ball, he's a lock for the 22 after one game which is fantastic for us and him.
-Ross. He gets better every game. How is his turn of speed?
-Sinclair. His class was on display today, that's the best game he's played for the club which suggests to me he is ready to have a breakout season. As his advocate last year I spoke a lot about him becoming a player that wins more ball. Well he did that today with 20+ possessions. I love those kicks he does where he puts it in front of a player, his vision is superb. We know he's one of the fittest at the club. He could be a real bolter this year.
-Backline, everyone was superb. Special shoutout to Carlisle who was immense. This guy honestly would have been worth Pick 5 alone the way he's playing, he is just a top quality AFL player, so to get Gresham as well was brilliant. Getting better with every game. Obviously Webster, Roberton, Brown and Geary were all immense today as well, what a performance from them.
-Steele. He seems to be getting better with each game. Very clever midfielder and hard as nails.
-Gilbert. Went into the ruck and it really helped our dynamic, allowing Bruce to stay forward. This needs to be the go to from now on, Bruce in the ruck is a shemozzle. Gilbert is a utility player anyway so it doesn't screw our structures when he goes in there. Also he is handy in midfield so is able to compete when it goes to ground after a ruck contest. Reckon Gilbert may have just found his niche for 2017.
-Billings. Very nice game. Obviously the goal kicking could have been better but I really loved his polish and creativity.
-Acres with the don't argues.
-The forwards were better today, Bruce is obviously in a bit of a form slump but still kicked 3 (should have been for cough). He will start clunking the grabs soon. Membrey is a great player to watch. Man was so much better today as he was able to get into more contests and had more possessions which really helped the cause. Gresham can still be good with only 9 possessions, he's just that kind of player.

For next week I would bring in Hickey. I just find Billy a bit wanting around the ground and I think Hickey gives us more.

Bruce defiantly needs to hold more of his marks. Although he could have finished with 5 goals if he didn't dish one off to Gresh, then miss that absolute sitter from the goal square. Went for the big torp out of the ground and shanked it straight into the post. I wonder if Richo will have words with him?

I totally agree. He has consistency issues cause of his injury battles over the years. I think we got him at the perfect age where his body matures and he's able to pack big chunks of games in. Its a confidence thing too. He's got another level to get to but i can see him getting there soon. Very good player.

He was very unlucky not to be playing at WC but they had an unbelievable midfield then once he hit the Dogs they had just amassed one of the best midfields in their history. He will play games that make him look elite but have will come out a week later and have a really meh game for some reason and not just injury. I reckon last year he was probably unlucky with injury though as he seemed to be having a pretty solid season. Don't get me wrong I was one of his biggest advocates for getting him in and think he will be great for us but expect he will fluctuate with form but his quiet games are probably not as quiet as Dunstan was last week and his best are eye poppingly good.

Yes Yes Yes

The only dark cloud is Sydney being even worse than Hawthorn.

I trust Sydney to turn it around at some point though, Hawks look old and not very good. They look like a bottom 4 side. Sydney should get a bit of a run on once they get a couple of wins on the board.

looking at afl player ratings Koby Stevens was the most dominant player in the 3d quarter by a fair margin and 2nd best player overall during the game (Roberton was the best). in fact in the 3rd Koby, Gresham, Roberton and Jack Steven were all dominant (once again this is through afl player ratings)

just so good having our midfielders kicking goals, always felt during the Lyon era our mids didn't kick enough.

If Longer can completely dominate hitouts to our advantage than he can get 1 handball every game as far as I'm concerned. If he turns into a top notch tap ruck then the rest is all just a bonus.

That's not to mention his bullocking work in close that cleared the path for our mids to get through.

I didn't notice Billy's lack of marking around the ground as we have enough tall targets at both ends now.

First use is critical & Billy gave it to us time & time again.

If you prefer a few uncontested marks across half back as Macca got then that's fine. Ask Seb, Jack, etc & I reckon they'll tell you how fantastic it was to have the ball hit down their throat constantly

They have Brisbane (H), LolNorf (A), StKilda (A) & Hawthorn (H) in their next 4 games...

Based on yesterday, they'll be 0-10 at the bye, they were awful. But if they have any mettle at all, they'll probably be 2-8 after winning both home games against Lions & Hawks
