The real downer for me was longer being beaten my Mcevoy. Got 2 goals kicked against him which simply should not happen.

Only change for me is Hickey for Longer.

It wasn't the two goals. Only one was Longers fault where he played for the free kick.

The other wad a shank and fell into McEvoy's lap. It was his presence around the ground.
14 possessions in two game is pathetic and not AFL standard. It cost us heaps against the Cats and I shudder to think what will happen against Mumford on Friday.
Ruck, even though we have four, is a huge weakness.

That's not to mention his bullocking work in close that cleared the path for our mids to get through.

I didn't notice Billy's lack of marking around the ground as we have enough tall targets at both ends now.

First use is critical & Billy gave it to us time & time again.

If you prefer a few uncontested marks across half back as Macca got then that's fine. Ask Seb, Jack, etc & I reckon they'll tell you how fantastic it was to have the ball hit down their throat constantly

It ultimately comes down to whether people want a ruckman who can't ruck, or a ruckman that can't run (and where their personal bias lies).

Webster giving us good run & carry out of the back half but turns the ball over far too often.
I counted 7 or 8 watching the replay this morning.

The better teams will make us pay.

The Isaac Smith takedown was awesome, the direct turnover was not

You make some fair points about Longer's around the ground work, but in the actual ruck contests Longer is clearly superior. When we get on a roll having a bloke who usually wins or at least breaks even at centre clearances allows us to keep the momentum going. Or helps us to break an opponent's stranglehold. For all his good work around the ground, Hickey remains regularly liable to having periods of being smashed (see Q2 and Q3 vs Demons) out of the centre.

It is a big dilemma.... if only we could have a Hickonger love child... or should that be Longkey?

Still only 23yo - as someone else pointed out, he's a good kick so more likely to be due to decision making, which is likely to keep on improving with experience.

Yes agree wth this. Have been saying this for quite a while.

Look I think Billy can improve his general play and when he does he will be the clubs best ruckman.

But I reckon this is still a few seasons away. He is only 23 and wont mature until around 25.
Just really concerned about next week.

I think you're spot on. Webster is a beautiful kick, it's more his decision making that costs him. Specifically he likes to look up and go for it, which is actually a positive trait, but it means he sometimes doesn't completely assess the options. Watching Roberton, he just seems to take that split second longer to assess and make sure.

The reason Webster is in ahead of Savage is pretty clear - tackling. Savage just wasn't tackling enough and his tackles weren't sticking. Webster is a tackling machine and hurts opposition players with his tackling. His overall game has improved out of sight and frankly I doubt we will see Jimmy back in the 2nds again in his career.

Agree, Hickey will get killed in the contest but needs to run him ragged around the ground and be used as a link man to expose Mumford.

Hickey in for mine.

Who cares how many he hit.
He's supposed to hit em.
That's what he gets paid for.

Savage was dropped for the same reason.
Turning the ball over in the back half kills your side
He had 3 turnovers. Same as last week and week before averaging over 20 disposals and his direct opponent less than a goal a game.

I think this year Webster has been given the green light to take on more game breaking kicks which if they work lead to a score.

Of course these are higher risk then just chipping it around the backline. Easily in the top 10 bf so far.

Lol no he didn't.

Maybe 3 direct turnovers hitting Hawthorn players.

The other 5 missed the targets completely and fell into Hawthorns lap.

The point is.. it would be nice if he can improve that part of his game.

He does a lot of good things too
