Incredible how quickly he's progressed and what he can do with so few games under his belt. Gone from being a guy you hope can do a few nice things and not get destroyed against the big forwards to a player we're genuinely relying on in a backline that is being frequently disrupted and depleted.

Out and out our best young prospect by a country mile and in such a crucial part of the ground and area of need for us.

He's for sure the best but Neale and Conway sound like pretty talented prospects coming on as well, I just hope they do and we keep them all. Love CS and Holmes, Cooper is a little behind but what he does is nice and he goes in hard and has that big body already.
And then there's Knevitt and Dempsey who've shown a lot of natural talent, our current youth are possibly the best we've had for some time.
Good job the recruitment boys.

If the players you listed keep improving and of course 1 or 2 more work out we have a very good group of players who could be together for 10+ years

Holmes , Cooper, Neale, SDK, Conway, Dempsey, Knevitt have all showed they have the potential to be 200 gamers if they all keep improving

There's an argument he could be our best national draft Pick last 10 years

I think SDK is better than TDK at the same stage of his career - and I love TDK and have always rated him as a player. You've got a player there.
Good to see SDK is tracking as I’d hoped he would. The bloke is a deadset superstar.

The ground ball pickup he had late in the 3rd/early in the 4th was sublime. He is a freak talent, exactly what Carlton could’ve used this year and I reckon he’ll be a 200 gamer for the cats. Geelong/Torquay local if I’m not mistaken.

His mum or maybe his dad mentioned that he has always been a "thinking" player. I really liked hearing that. It made me think of Harry Taylor, who I always thought outstudied more than he outmuscled his opponents. I just hope they keep playing him as a key defender and that he continues to learn and develop there. None of this talk of CHF. Was great to see another fine performance. I thought Naughton had a particularly bad night by his standards, but SDK was a pillar - clean, brave, composed.

Would we have taken Georgiades over Cooper if both were there at 16?

They were both there and we choose cooper over georgiades (although we may have wanted all three).

Essentially we had 16 and wanted cooper and one of the aforementioned talls...we were aware carlton and richmond were both keen on cooper with picks just after 16, which is why we took cooper there. Port were suspected to take a tall and we were going to take whichever of sdk and georgiades they let through (we were linked to the latter and he was a late bolter after not playing due to injury i suspect we though georgiades would get through to our next pick at 27 hence we live traded that out the next day once he was off the board).

Alls well that ends well. Sdk is the jewel in the crown and while i like georgiades id pick sdk every day of the week over him.

According to the paper ..Ch7 interviewed mum and dad after the game and clarified ..once and for all pronouncation ....

Taylor and Matthew Richardson then interviewed Jackie and Terry De Koning, parents of Geelong’s rising young defender Sam and Carlton’s ruckman Tom.

We got some clarity about the De Koning surname pronunciation, with Jackie detailing it was “ De Koning, like an ice-cream cone …”

I guess this means we cue the Conehead photos ...

It's crazy to think that right now port really needs a decent sized kpd and they don't have room in the seniors for giorgiades.

If those picks were swapped not only would Port have a better balanced list but we also probably don't trade in Cameron

An absolute hoot of a re-read. All the board's draft guru's foaming at the mouth over Kemp and Robertson, who've collectively done 3/5's of sweet **** all

****ing amusing stuff.

"if we go dekoning i'll lose my shit here lol"

"If we go DeKoning over Robertson, or anyone else here... I'll be out in the backyard spewing up"

But here's the immediate aftermath of Wells selecting Sam De Koning at #19

Oh fffffsss

De koning jesus
Fxkk.............
Very early SDK ...
Get rid of Wells.
This is shit lol
Responding to comment where someone was happy we got SDK:

Hes decent but no robbo.
CS is ok. De koning over robbo is just madness.
Wells miffed it.

I called it when we picked thurlow

I called it when we picked Lang

I am calling it now.

Passing on both kemp and Robertson is up there with the biggest f*ck ups of his career.

Live trading has also hurt us. Out of our depth.
The two players we picked aren't even at the bloody draft. Wells you never fail to amuse me..
Great! Another player CS will play out of position in the ruck!

Drunkcat thecatattack were two who were level headed and on the money though. Kudos.

Don’t forget the commentary around Will Gould. still hasn’t been seen as yet.

I wonder how much time he spent working with or talking with Henry this past week

When we played the Bulldogs last year it was Henry on Naughton, and Henry kept him to 4 disposals, 1 mark & goalless before Naughton was subbed off at halftime

They seem pretty collaborative down back, reckon Harry might have some input aswell (and I agree with Henry

Re-reading that I'm kind of happy I picked SDK on page 28 or so (loosely though to be fair), I wonder aloud how Robertson and Kemp are doing now vs how our draft picks have performed.
