An absolute hoot of a re-read. All the board's draft guru's foaming at the mouth over Kemp and Robertson, who've collectively done 3/5's of sweet duck all

******* amusing stuff.

"if we go dekoning i'll lose my shit here lol"

"If we go DeKoning over Robertson, or anyone else here... I'll be out in the backyard spewing up"

But here's the immediate aftermath of Wells selecting Sam De Koning at #19

Drunkcat thecatattack were two who were level headed and on the money though. Kudos.
This is also a helpful reminder that judging draft talent is a crapshoot for mere mortals.

Gould showed he can flat out play in his draft year. Looked a young Glenn Archer with his aggression. Unfortunately the game has moved past that style of player and he hasn't develop in Sydney.
No i watched the swans VFL other week he was good and very hard at it, commentators saying the club love him and fans don't understand why he has not got a game.....after watching him i would love him at the cats

Yeah, the likes of Shuey, Puopolo and more recently, Ginnivan and Dylan Moore draw free kicks in a similar manner to Selwood - I'd argue that Ginnivan plays for frees far more than Selwood - yet none of them have ever been routinely booed.

Do we honestly believe Selwood plays for frees? He used to drop his knees as a means of avoiding a should/head high tackle. If they tackled him around the waist there would have been no problem surely?

There’s a compilation on YouTube of the No.of hard hits he gets, quite a few behind play and never reported.

I honestly don’t think he plays for frees. I’m amazed that he can string a sentence together after all the head high treatment he’s received.

One of those guys who would've been a star 20 years ago

Funny but a bit harsh. We all like to act like we've never gotten an opinion wrong in these cases.

Happens to everyone, the fact that Narkle is still your avatar when he won't be on an AFL list in 4 months time shows we've all been there.

Why because I like Narkle?? I think he's talented but won't make it at AFL level. Am I only allowed to like superstars?

gees thought there could be nothing negative in the dekonning thread right now and yet here we are. People sooking about others potentially sooking in the future.

To help us out can you post us the list of players we are allowed to sook about if they play badly and the list of players we are not allowed to sook about if they play badly?

dekonning - no sooking.
narkle - yes sooking.

whats the rule with the others?
So unsurprised at your lack of ability to see the difference.

See Narkles efforts in last weeks game - short stepping contest, pulling out and not appearing to take a defensive responsibility.
Dekoning - gets laid out by a team mate both straight lining the ball and hardly gets beaten all night.

Narkle - sooking when poor. - effort and commitment questioned.
SDK - not sooking when poor - effort and commitment unwaivering - and really yet to be poor but will at some point.

If you cant follow along, re read it a few times and im sure you'll get the picture.

Go Catters.

Similar responses when we traded up to get Holmes.

How about Atkins(?) nearly killing him just a tad after we lost Stewart. For such a beanpole of a kid he took it well and played on.

Beanpole? He's the same weight as Blics - 101kgs :tearsofjoy:

Our players always look a lot smaller, IMO, as our guernseys aren't so tight as others. Always been this way. Look at him during pre-season in his training kit, and that'll give you an idea of how big he is already:

I watched the Haw/Pies game...

Newcombe was amazingly good in a dominant wet weather performance..

...Love Sam but midfielders are usually picked and that gives Newcombe an edge.

David King is on his bandwagon ... its a bit hard to compare them really. Not to diminish what he does but how often do mids play on an opponent. Game plans etc tends to see these guys play with a freedom from direct responsibility for a direct opponent. If Naughton had kicked 4 or 5 against us.. it would be Sam Dek that would be directly looked at and charred from Naughtons heat. Just who does Newcombe directly beat each week? Is he coping a tag? The truth may be that they are both rising stars... but by contract 3..my bet is SamDek is the one thats drawing elevated star remuneration.

Re-reading that I'm kind of happy I picked SDK on page 28 or so (loosely though to be fair), I wonder aloud how Robertson and Kemp are doing now vs how our draft picks have performed.
Think you had a crack at me as I was very obviously taking the piss on the night out of the melters lol.
No harm no fowl.

Should always give every draftee a chance before we get the pitchforks out.

Numerous full time talent scouts + part time state based consultants actually watching numerous games of dozens of players + then adding in the various means of footage available vs the average fan who watches a few clips or matches online.

Chalk and cheese really.
Good to be able to laugh at yourself 🤣
Wasn't trying to be a smartarse at any individual btw. Great that some on here have a passion for youth football. Budda230 turned it into a career, as has Knightmare. But we're all amateurs compared to the masters.

Was genuinely interested to see what the perception of SDK on draft night was. Fair to say lots of people's opinions of him have grown this year!

The notable draft misses where Wells is perceived to have reached is remembered far more than the times he nails it.
