Sauce has just been named to play against the Swans.....

put in a great finals showing to pump up his price would be fantastic!

I hope he puts his price up so high that we don't buy, and then goes back to being 4th ruck at Carlton.

No I said he was for THOSE LISTED. You can't list x8 ruckman, 6 of which were taken with top 10 picks, and say "if Jacobs can't break even with these players he is shit" because that is absolute bs.

And the deal I suggested was Jacob + 2nd rd pick for your 1st rd pick, which = an upgrade of #36 to #16.

gp has said that Jacobs is worth more than your 2nd rd pick and less than your first, so essentially upgrading our 2nd rd pick is a compromise ......

Clubs dont trade their first round picks for a player who is not worth a first rounder on his own. End of story.

Give it up it is a shit trade suggestion.

lol, gopower isnt on the board at PAFC, and if you read many threads here you can see he has many disagreements with our members over stuff like this. differing points of view we will call it but yeah, definately not the one to quote around here.

ps sorry gp but its the truth

I think gopower and blueinblood have put it best here. In short, Sam is worth more than a 2nd rd pick but not worth a 1st rd pick. He's somewhere inbetween, and many of the more sensible posters on both sides seem to agree with this.

So to me, the most logical option is to give you guys Sam for your second pick, plus a fringe player or a pick upgrade (eg our 3rd rd pick for yours). I think that'd be fair.

Incidentally, Sam's been selected to play the Swans this week. It'll be interesting to see how he goes with Mumford back.

Craig has said on radio that the Crows arent looking for a ruckman.

So Carlton can either trade him to us or risk losing him for nothing next year. It is about time we had the upper hand in a trade negotiation.

Take our second rounder and run if you get offered it Carlton.

He's contracted for next year. So we can't lose him "for nothing". Not this year, anyway. So a deal will be done, or he'll be at CFC next year.

ummmm

Yes Salopek would be an early to mid 20's pick IMO.....

You must be kidding yourself if you think that, go back and watch any one of Salopek's 109 games then come back and tell me he's a early to mid 20 pick.

Is that the same logic that saw Carlton give up which pick for Brock McLean??? 11 was it??? Sorry but you are welcome to keep that logic all to yourself.

Unlike your mob who have a proven track record of importing players I would rather trust OUR track record of developing our draft picks.

PS Goodluck to Sam on the weeknd. Hope he does well.

Yep, the same, especially given how instrumental my opinion was in the club's decision on that occasion.

some of what blueinblood said makes sense, but can blues supporters really claim jacobs is worth a 20-30 pick, then come out and say salopek is worth a ? what 20-30 pick?? no, it makes no sense. alot of other team supporters seem to rate sal anywhere in that range too ( probably more early 20's). who here thinks that is right? cmon seriously..

Salopek def rates higher than Jacobs on the surface. If you were picking a side from scratch and they were both 20, Salopek would be chosen by everyone night and day. This is probably what you are thinking when comparing value.

Starting over, Salopek is worth a first rounder, and Jacobs 2nd/3rd rounder...BUT

  • Salopek has had trouble staying on the park...it has killed Walker's trade value at Carlton (along with his kicking ).
  • Salopek most likely offers 3 less years of football than Jacobs
  • Jacobs still offers upside while we know Salopek's true potential
  • Mids can be found much easier than a ruck. I'm not saying finding very good mids like Salopek is easy...just easier than rucks
  • No decent ruck and things fall apart pretty quickly...Just ask Carlton 2003-2007/8.
So from scratch Salopek by a country mile...but after the fine print, the gap starts to close a little.

Salopek 18-28 and Jacobs 20-30 only due to ruckman being a rarer commodity. If these two are involved in a trade (i so doubt it given we have the injury prone Walker as a lesson) the club that wins the trade would be down to luck of pick options and one side having to give to allow a trade to occur.

So based on this, if Salopek earnt you 18, and Jacobs got 27...most Port fans would be ok. How that breaks down is a little bit down to luck of what clubs have.

I tend to think Salopek will be traded elsewhere completely and a pick offered to Carlton...something in the range of 18-to low 30s.

Or Jacobs can stay at Carlton.

A very good tomato sauce at Carlton says Port and Carlton are already down the track on negotiations with Adelaide a backup option come trade time.

So i think it is less likely he is staying at Carlton. Of course, you can come back with, I think your tomato sauce is crap!

Well we already know the 'Adelaide is a backup option' bit is bullshit. Craig said so on radio.

We Port supporters can only hope!! A perfect fit for our needs, an if we can recruit him rather than trying to draft in a ruckman with our secondish pick then we should be stoked.

what did he say?

Others on your board will have quoted it already but he essentially sais that Moran was back for and McKernan was ready to go and that they hadn't even had a look at Craig yet so they were happy to back them in and that they have other more pressing needs such as a line breaking mid (who he can turn into a boring robot :p)

As time goes on I'm coming around to the point that if we can get Jacobs without losing our first pick or a significant player that he's worth a look. This time last year we were bitching because the club was considerin Jamar - well he's turned out ok.
