He's a Carltank supporter, they're all like this. Let him have his fun. He'd probably ask for a first rounder for Thornton too.

No you can have the T-Bird for free....please take him!!!

And no, I am not overvaluing Jacobs at all, purely going on previous trading history of Ruckmen around the place, and especially as there seems to be an overly high demand for them at a few clubs.

As I was saying, I can see a trade involving Jacobs and Carlton's Second round pick for your first rounder....or something of that ilk....

You're an idiot.

Well it is overrating, you just need to look at the history of trades to see that. For those that would relate to Jacobs:

Mumford - pick 28
Warnock + pick - Three picks (overpaid)
Meeson - pick 38
Moran - pick 34
Wood - pick 14 (1st rounder, over paid)
Everitt - pick 33
Gardiner + pick - pick 43
Johnson - pick 29
Street - pick 20

Feel free to point out where all these first rounders were given out for 15 game rookie list ruckmen.

Street - pick 20

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! :D

In fairness, most of those players were probably out of contract, whereas Jacobs isn't. That said, a first rounder is still overpaying. Although if Street was worth pick 20 then Jacobs is probably worth pick 1.

3. Gold Coast/Port/Crows/Hawks are all looking for an experienced AFL ready ruckmen, and with not many going around his value immediately goes up due to demand.
Why in the world would the Crows with Maric, Griffin, Sellar, McKernan, etc or the Hawks with their few ruckman try and pickup Jacobs a junior who is still mostly unproven.

Geez, anyway back to reality. Port would probably offer their second round pick at best and GC would probably not be interested given they'll probably get an out of contract ruckman of quality to play till their juniors are ready.

The only way Carlton are getting a first round pick for Jacobs is if they chuck in Jordan Russell.

Russell just signed on a new 2 year deal....
Again wont be going anywhere.....

Call me an idiot all you like....Mumford is probably the closest to Jacobs of the above list, but he was also out of contract and going to go anyway.....

I firmly believe we will snare a first rounder for him, albeit a late one

If Mumford is the closest to what you believe to be Sam Jacobs value then you are getting a second or a third round draft choice for him.

Why this continues to elude you baffles me.

difference is Mumford was out of contract and was free to go into the pre season draft where the cats would get 0 for him.

Jacobs is under contract which means any club that may want him, cant hold us over a barrell being the PSD. So in reality we can hold out for the best possible scenario for the CFC and make it a bidding war!

So nothing is eluding me, it is the way the system works.

I still see a first round pick getting it done.

we will ask for a first rounder for him (maybe an upgrade on our second rounder).

Classic bigfooty.

In the space of a few posts he realises he has made an error and it goes from 1st rounder to first round/second round swap to late first round/second round swap (effectively a couple of pick upgrade). :thumbsu:

i dont wanna lose jacobs but i feel currently being last in line he may ask for a trade. He has proven that he is afl material as a starting or second ruck & if any team picked him up they would be doing very well. He is decent around the ground although slowish, is a good contested mark and goal kick. Imo he is worth a late first round to early second round, but I would much prefer to keep him, with concerns over kreuzers knee & him being a great backup

A first rounder for a 3rd string ruckman?

So in reality we can hold out for the best possible scenario for the CFC and get nothing because no other club is in a position where they would want Jacobs and end up getting stuck with a 4th ruckman who adds very little to our list when we already have one who's better and two of similar quality, so if we don't accept Port's second rounder we won't get anything

Efa.

look at a trade with Jacobs + pick for Walker

lol you dont actually believe the crows would even consider this do you? It would have to be a top 10 pick.

As for Port trading a first rounder for Jacobs  no chance. Worth a late second rounder at best. Mumford much better prospect.

Problem is you've totally got the system wrong.

If Jacobs is your 4th string ruckman and you keep him on your list for another year, getting barely any game time and wasting crucial development time his value is only going to go down.

You may have him under contract but that means nothing. You have him at his peak value now and if he wants to be traded now it’s actually Carlton in the worst seat possible because if you don’t do a deal this year you could lose him for free next year, or alternatively even if you do a deal there is no guarantee that the club you do a deal with will have any greater need for a ruckman than Port and offer more, and if Carlton don’t take whatever that club is willing to offer next year they’ll just lose him.

As such Carlton will get the opportunity to do a deal for probably a second round pick for Jacobs.... If our list management team thinks he is worth it.... and then they’ll have to assess whether they can get a better 2nd round pick than ours for him and if they can’t find a better deal and he wants to go they’ll have to do the deal else risk losing value next year.

Make no mistake no club will offer a first round pick under 20 for Jacobs.
