Overused now to the point of becoming meaningless as some elder pointed out on the radio this afternoon. He mentioned that he has stopped doing them because of this and that it has become a political statement for some within the indigenous community. Why if it’s simply a cultural thing does the AFL and other organisations pay 2k a pop for someone to do it. Seems like a good earner…..

I would say I hate people making out like Australia is so terrible and racist. Which countries are not? We have a ways to go to mend our past, but we are not alone on that path and the vast majority of countries in the world have significantly more ground to make up.

That old argument that others are racist, so it's not that bad doesn't sit well with me. Either way, the referendum will make news and we'll be judged internationally by it's result.

An aborigine visiting Melbourne CBD today, for the first time, Marvellous Melbourne it was once called without irony, an aborigine who knows their history from their ancestors, and even reading some white folk history, would be further insulted to see the streets named Latrobe, Lonsdale, Swanston etc. As if the dispossession is celebrated.

I'm not sure from my white bloke mates that dispossession is celebrated. Perhaps worse, they don't even know about it. Ignorance. Lack of curiosity. Lack of care. Not even forgotten history. It's a covered up history.

So when you see that fella welcoming you to his country, that was stolen by means catostrophic murder of people and culture, why not feel inspired and grateful that despite everything, they still extend the welcome. What a fine and honourable gesture. Be grateful for it.
