Close enough. They wouldn't be running with it if it wasn't leaked to them/7.
Don't get me wrong, I hope it is Samantha's but I am going to wait until it is official before I start celebrating.

Let's assume SM's murder occurred at around 8 to 9am in the morning. Alleged perp hides body, comes back later on to retrieve SM. Takes her away, hears a message sound from SM's device on her. while driving along Buninyong - Mt Mercer road. Pulls over, gets out the car and chucks it in the first dam they notice on the way out after retrieving SM's body. That would explain the phone going dark around 5 oclcok and the location is consistent with the Mt Buninyong tower. Now its 5pm, dayliight in early Feb until around 8. It appears the suspect was heading south. Let's assume allleged per wants time to dig a grave so allow an hour for that. I reckon SM must be somewhere within 1 hours drive of the phone going dark at 5pm assuming the location was the dam where her phone was tossed.

Enfield State Park seems a good possibility. Also Clarendon plantation. It may be about tracing movements of the suspect to nail where the burial site is. Obviously more information is needed to narrow down the search otherwise it's a fruitless exercise just as it was with the missing campers until they got the location off Greg Lynn.

He’s gone from Mt Clear to the dam which is past the turn off to where he was staying at 30 Yepon 2 Rd. Unless he went from Mt Clear then home then to dump the stuff in the dam and possibly other things in the river at the end of Slaughterhouse Rd?

I think it's more likely he went to the dam. Too risky a throw misses or doesn't land it in far enough.
It's not easy to get to the dam and not be noticed, it's literally just off the road, you'd chuck it and go. Looks like a bit of water has been used, not surprising there has not been much rain to refill the dams....

Bloody impressive work from the boys in blue so far, even more so given they have just been throwing darts at a map (read it somewhere). If they can find a 10x5cm phone in a dam, there's a reasonable chance they can bring her body home IMO. Fingers crossed.
There’s always a LOT more going on behind the scenes that the public aren’t aware of. Remember the kidnapping of that little girl in WA, there were all sorts of wild theories and questioning of police investigations and suddenly, one day they found her.

Yeah, good points and maybe you're right, I really don't know, but you'd have to get out of the car anyway and if it were me after I'd just killed somebody I'd want to see and hear the 'PLOOoooop', just to be sure!

Unfortunate road name in circumstances.

Yarowee River is looking more and more likely. Not familiar with the river that south how deep/wide etc. it is but covered with dense bushland would be as good as spot as any.

Assuming it was 'police intelligence' that led them to the dam and the phone, and not just that the property owner noticed something odd as the dam water receded, and then (wisely) called the cops to come and investigate further?

Not all of them are so food driven, we have had a couple that weren't.

The overwhelming majority though are gutses, yes.
Yes mine is not that food motivated but her ball is her life. I agree that there are many factors but as you said their eagerness to please and work ethic make them a dream to train.

wow, a lab not food motivated, always an exception.

Labs are such a super smart dog, devoted to people and gentle.

had a cross eyed rescue choc lab... legend of a dog. Have mastiffs now - they not the brightest compared to the labs

The phone was buried in mud? if it wasn't for those dogs would never have been found, police have had some kind of info to search that area.

I agree, it’s taken some exhaustive work to track it down, assuming it IS Sam’s phone, which seems very likely. Combination of phone tracking, CCTV and/or information received I’d say.

its her phone, she had credit cards etc attached, hopefully its not too damaged etc... Silverster from the Age said the physical phone helps with tracking her, more then pings etc.. so i should lead to a body hopefully?

Unless he disposed of the phone first then took the body elsewhere. But, if he was on his way back from where he put her, then remembered he had to get rid of the phone…

The Yarrawee below the South Durham Bridge is usually running, and there are some reasonably deep sections, very difficult to access , there is no riverside track, just a series of seldom used tracks in and out to the river, very secluded. Who knows how much knowledge POS has of the area (?), it's certainly worth looking into.....
