how true is this though?
How come its not being mentioned on the Sydney Swans website or the news?

If its real this sucks we got ripped
I agree tere is noting on the news......Why are we not hearing about it.....I keep listening for the sports news and yet nothing is coming.......arrgghh frustrating.

Don't. Let it all out.

If this goes through, it's the worst deal we've done in my memory. It's even five times worse than Paul Chambers for pick 35.

Im not overly fussed at losing Dempster, good kid but gets the 'rabbit in the headlights' happening a bit too often. I am pissed though at giving him away for nothing.

As for Schneider, I need time to process what has happened. My first reactions werent too good though, and I have 2 teenage daughters who are quite saddened to say the least.

I noticed the grey hair creeping in this year but Roos must surely be the youngest person in history to be senile. He has always been a jobs for the boys sort of bloke and his relationship with Lyon has really come to the forfront now, with this deal.Lets hope Blakey doesnt get a senior gig in the next couple of years because we will have no bloody list left at all !!!!!!

I just cant bag Roos but it does make me bloody well wonder WTF is going on. You dont give away players for nothing.

okay schnieder for the pick but dempster aswell? either the coaching staff know something about dempster we dont or they just traded one of our best young talents for nothing..

I understand you angst Sydney supporters and generally on the face of it the Saints look to have struck a good deal.

However dont write off Mattner, he can play and Playfair is a big lad whom the Swans can develop.

Last year the Saints basically got Gardiner and Birss for pick 43. Birss was OK but nothing special and Gardiner didn't get on the park.

Roos is no fool, and is obviously looking to rebuild.

All I can say to you guys is 2005.

You have seen a flag we are still waiting for ours.

Dont understand this at all. Two good players for pick 26? I thought this was a mistake at first. Must include a trade as well!!!????? If you are feeling so generous please take some of our duds.

Sheesh- you would think that we traded O'Keefe and Goodes the way some are talking on here.

Let's take the emotion out of it and look at the reality.

We lost Schneider - a half forward flanker that doesn't have the engine to play in the midfield and I believe peaked in 2005, having had 2 "so so" years since. (To me we had to trade either Schneider or Buchanan as they both play very similar roles)

and

Dempster who is a fringy HBF that isn't big enough to play KP and has been given plenty of chances to cement his spot (even with Kennelly out), but has been shown to be 1 dimensional in that he doesn't have the finesse to find targets coming out of the backline and the only string to his bow is that he can kick it long.

On the other hand we picked up Mattner - who has the foot skills and pace to compliment Malceski and Kennelly.

and

Playfair who is no gun, but offers us the big body and size to play as a CHB or lead up CHF that we have so badly missed. (Watching Brennan play on Key forwards in Rnd 21 showed us that)

So all we really lost was pick 44, which we weren't going to use anyway.

I appreciate that we all have favourite players and an emotional attachment to some in particular, but the thing that Roos has always shown is that he is prepared to offer quality picks and players for players that will offer value to the swans.

I would rather be seen as a club that trades fair, than a club like Collingwood that has missed out on Plugger, Gehrig, N. Stevens and Judd due to pig headedness and overrating the value of their players. Remember that Judd wanted to go to the Pies, but the eagles knocked it on the head because they knew that they would never get a fair price from the Pies.

On the other hand we traded S. Stevens for an exchange of 3 round picks to the crows a couple of years back (which effectively amounts to nothing) and in return we got Mattner at a very reasonable price this year. Call it "trade Kahma" if you like.

Sure there have been a couple of clangers in Chambers and Spriggs, plus the jury is still out on Teddy, but in the positive ledger we took a punt in offering C Bolton a big contract to get him in the PSD and we took a punt in offering a 1st round pick for Jolly. I would say that we are in front there.

Have faith in Roos and Ireland- they helped get us to the top of the mountain in 05 and nearly 06, so they are not going to trade players unless they feel that they are going to struggle to make our best 22.

We have Barlow, Schmidt, Laidlaw, Thornton etc. that will be pushing for selection next year as well, so the fact that Schneider and Dempster are 23 is irellevant- if anything it just shows that they have had plenty of time to cement their spots in our best 22.

Go Bloods

Look, I don't think most people are angry about the fact that we traded Scheinder and Dempster. I knew it was a possibility and can live without them.

IT'S THE FACT THAT WE TRADED TWO 23 YEAR OLD PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS FOR PICK 26. WHAT THE HELL?

Worst trade of all time, unless whoever we pick up with 26 turns out to be the next Goodes.

Honestly, I am very, very angry.

with the departures of Schneids and Dempster that will deffinatly promote an opportunity for a younger player/s to grab a position or even for the coaching staf to rotate a few players as it would be highly unlikely Playfair will be a consistant Snr player nxt Yr, although Mattner will fill the void and as mentioned above^^, compliment the likes of malcho and kennelly.
Thornton, Barlow, Jack, O'Keefe as well as even Rowe are all capable of going to that nxt level nxt yr after a solid Pre-season and its seen sydney as having a good bunch of young players coming through.

wat sort of condition is Playfairs Jaw in?

Schnieder is 24 , Dempster 23, and to be honest if you cannot cement yourself as a League Footballer by this age, your going to struggle to get a gig on a list, its a givin.
At best schnides as a pintch hitter hf -fp is now not enough in modern football and the value of these players to the side is low...i would like to see the amount of tackles schnides would make per game!!! and the amount of 1%ers he would make..

Pick 26 is a chance for the club to bring in another quality young player. in regard to the deal that both players for pick 26, it is creating 2 more opportunities on the list..... as the swans no can elevate both Barlow and Brennen or even Jack. and retain Rowe on the rookie list!!!

In regards to Schneider and Dempster - yes, they haven't lit the world on fire this year, but there's a lot of candidates in front of them in terms of underperforming. Matthews had a good start to the year, but faded in the past 5 weeks, and there's no evidence that Bevan can't just outright take his spot as the 'invisible man' and take advantage of Bevan's tenacity while reducing his clangers (purely because he doesn't need to touch the footy).

Crouch struggled bad. And I just don't see him recovering to the standard he set himself a few years back. To be frankly, even before his injury this year, he had been on a steep decline - his extreme pace was the one thing that stopped opponents exposing his weaknesses - lack of height, not a good mark or spoil, limited disposal and decision making skills.

If we're looking to get extra room/a second round pick, then we should have traded J.Bolton - who I'm sure we can get a second pick for who would be on a much bigger contract than Schneider + Dempster, or involved Fosdike in the Mattner deal. It would have made fair more erode into reduce our salry while drastically made our team younger - not older as Roos/Ireland had done.

Playfair will probably be considered as the eventual replacement for Leo Barry and will play on third talls or cover FB when Leo is played as a loose man in defence.

#26 had not traditional been in good value - looking back at the last decade, only Rivers had returned a better value than Schneider. So we just traded two 23 yrs old for a 10% at getting a half-decent player in return. Hardly good odds.

I have said this before and I will say this again, supporters over value players when it comes to comparing them to picks.

Irrespective of who we started with, we were always looking for an outside midfielder with good disposal skills and a youngish KP Defender. We were not looking to lower the age of the list or add speed.

From what has transpired, we have met those requirements and managed to trade away two players who within our current list can be replaced in the side by players such as Barlow, Schmidt, Laidlaw, Thornton or maybe Bird.

All up, we have been active as Roos said we would and have addresses some of the structural issues we have.

I am content, roll on the draft and hopefully Rance at number 11.

The guy coached your mob to it's only premiership in 70-odd years. Show a little respect...

Thank you very much Forest Gimp!
Some one who actually can see all this rubbish & ungrateful dribble coming from some of my fellow supporters mouths.
I can't actually believe what I am reading here. Paul Roos has delivered us a flag! The first one in 72 years in fact. Some of my knowledgable fellow Swans have posted Roos' successful history as coach of the Swans.
It is second to none in his time as a coach. I'll back Roos ANY day!
Roos is being sold short quite unfairly here by none other then people that have no idea............both some Swans supporters & opposition supporters the like. How many people out there thought that we would not make the 8 when Hall was struck down with the knee & then Kennelly with the same knee injury twice. Each time I bet many of you said that we're gone..................."won't make the finals now.................this era of Swans are finished"! I heard it & read it all year until now & am sick of hearing it. Especially from my fellow Swans.

Let's get one thing straight here. Many have said we are gone. Roos won't do this...Roos won't do that. Well my friends! Roos has DONE SOMETHING!

OUT.......Schneider & Dempster.........two p'ship players that don't have ANY impact on a game when it's needed or EXPECTED by p'ship players at the prime age of 23.
EXAMPLES
Elimination final versus Collingwood............Micky O kicks a goal & we are just 4 points behind. The Swans of 05 & 06 would have swamped Collingwood once we got a sniff. Mick O then takes a terrific & gutsy mark 30 mts out, slight angle but when he lands he hurts himself & can't take the kick!!

ENTER one Adam Schneider! He takes the kick that "WILL" put us in front.......................IF he kicks it!
HE MISSES!!!
My heart sank!! I knew we were not the same team after the Pies slammed on a few goals in a hurry. It's almost as if our players that have been giving their all, were deflated by that miss. Make no mistake, the leadership group would have been a party to the decision to move Schneider on. He was fully fit that night unlike many of our players & has been with us for 5 years & SHOULD be getting better! He has NO IMPACT in any games unless we are 30 - 40 points up! But when it matters he goes missing. He was also responsible for showing NO RESPECT to Marty Clarke of Collingwood in his first game & got smashed by this freak!
This would all have been taken into account in making the decision.

Now.....Dempster................same deal here. NO IMPACT from him which is what is expected & required from a player that has played in a p'ship two years ago. If he hasn't set the world on fire by now my friends, then he ain't gonna ever do it. Well at the Swans any how. Give him a chance at a lesser club & he'll be a better player. And yes St Kilda fans. I will say a lesser club because with all the early draft picks & star players you have in your team, you all have to admit that you have under achieved over the last 5 years or so. Each & every year you have fallen WELL short of where you were expected to finish. In 2007 you didn't even make the finals.
I'm sure that will change under Ross Lyon but whether Dempster & Schneider will have the desired impact is still to be seen.
I've seen Dempster get chased down time & time again when running out of defence...........SLOWLY............& looking for a target. He has little or no awareness of what is going on around him. I think he was offered as a trade on his own but I don't think much would have been offered. So to get the Schneider deal done, Roosy has thrown Dempster in.

We now have a hard nut in Mattner to replace Dempster & Schmidt will walk straight into the role that Schneider was SUPPOSED to be doing. And that is to be a dangerous pain in the ar.e to the opposition kicking a 1 or 2 goals a week as well as apply defensive pressure to the opposition when his team hasn't got the ball.

THAT, my friends, is how The Bloods play football & that is what Paul Roos , master coach & tactition, wants from a team that he is going to coach!!

Cheers!:thumbsu:

What's the hold-up?

A little over two hours to go and the deals that were agreed to last night has yet to go through. Is there still hope that sanity has prevailed?

I hope not, it will mean a number of younger players that are ready play senior football won't get a go next year.

Get the deal done, it's time to free up the space on the list for the next generation.
