I'm shocked that VANDA didn't break the news.

Oh, that's right... It's his own club - he's not interested in talking about them.

Lol.........was too busy replying to your tripe in the TClo thread!

But on topic...............i agree with this decision..........all has not been right with Scott & he deserves some time out to overcome his ailments.

We all hope he recovers from the dreaded case of old age illness quickly. Could take a while though. :D

Interestingly it seems a direct conflict with James Hird's well expressed analysis of what Lucas needed on Foxtel's "On the Couch" last night.
Hirdy said that at Lucas's age and with his experience the only way to get his reactions and match fitness up was more time in the AFL and that his (Hird's) estimate was that it would probably take 3-4 weeks. I believe Lucas had a reduced or non-existent pre-season, at least with running.
Hird said playing in the VFL would achieve nothing. I can't imagine 'gardening leave' will do much either, makes it sound more like a disciplinary thing.

Anyone who knows Scott would know that it would not be a discipline issue. One of the most loyal and hardworking players in the AFL. Not only that, he is an exemplary citizen off the field as well.

Players like Lucas don't play reserves. Its a simple as that really. Knights is paying him some respect which is good to see.

Yes I can see that I should have added that that would have surprised me. Lucas is hard but has always struck me as very professional. That's why I bothered to contribute to this thread.

DT you have been reading to much of Kelvins tripe on our board and it is rubbing off onto you.

That is absolute crap.

NO player is above playing reserves to ensure when they are picked for seniors they are in the best shape, physically and mentally, to contribute to the team.

The amount of players i have seen for us skip playing reserves, only to come in and either under perform or re-injure themselves is staggering.

You will find if Lucas doesn't play with Bendigo this week, which me still might, he will next week.

Merv, I don't necassarily disagree with you - just telling you what the clubs policy is.

To an extent I agree with them in Lucas's case as a player like him relies so heavily on his leading and therefore he needs good delivery. Playing him in the two's means the delivery won't be that great so his confidence would be eroded even further.

respect? more so knights is suggesting to lucas he go for a few days away from footy to decide if he wants to play it in 2009.
Lucas looks underdone, unfit and out of sorts. I think Knights is using a Ross lyon-dal santo psychology trip onto Lucas and the other players in the side and suggesting that:
"ya name might be Scott Lucas but if I don't think your head is where it should be bugger off and come back to me when you are ready to contribute to the team".

All that is worrying Scotty at the moment is his goalkicking..he's certainly finding the ball ok and working hard to get it, so I don't think it has to do with psychology.

That problem with his elbow can't be helping..yet they drain it each week.

He's finished, but having said that Essendon have proven this year that they can win without him - I think they should possibly look at playing a "Western Bulldogs like" forward line, using all of the skills and speed of the little blokes to kick all of the goals.
