Great call throwing Lycett in, both in the short term and the long term, given the circumstances.

Kennedy AND Naitanui out makes Lycett the obvious choice because he can play both roles. Plant him in the goal-square for most of the match and make him the bail-out long-kicking option that is usually Kennedy. Then when Coxy needs a breather throw him in the ruck.

Long term it's also a good move. Lycett is the future and as good as we've gone this year, we're not a realistic chance of winning the flag. Giving him a taste of AFL action will spur him on in the coming preseason without a doubt.
Could easily finish 3rd or 4th so only have to beat one of Hawthorn, Carlton or Geelong to make a grand final where anything can happen.

Like St Kilda were? The Pies without Shaw will struggle to get it out of their defense and if he is playing he wont be near 100%.

The Pies are looking much better than they were last year. When was the last time a team had a percentage of 175% at this stage of the season?

And Shaw will be back for finals and will no doubt be training in Arizona or someplace in preparation.

Just watched this for the first time.

All I can say, is wow.. Great hands and very mobile.. Should be a weapon in the future.

As others have mentioned, really looking forward to seeing this fella - hope he kicks a half-dozen. Certainly, with his height and marking prowess at FF, he'll cause big problems for the Bullies.

Remember though....He is a young tall playing his first game, so don't be surprised if you're underwhelmed by his debut.

A few years down the track is when I'd be looking at bags of goals for him.

Yeah, the guy has impressed me a lot. Just seems like he's got that natural football sense and footy brain. Seems like he belongs there.

Still young and inexperienced. Exciting future.

So far I've got Darling and Lycett penned down for bags, seeing as I'm in my creative license mood.

Mark LeCras will open the batting soon.

There is a reason we picked this kid. He will be elite. Mark my words.

He may also barely play ruck. FF could be permanent.

He should be elite I agree.

I reckon the very top players in whatever position they play are usually: Mentally strong and driven, good athletically and naturally talented in their sport.

In theory, he should be a sure thing.

91 West Coast team

Lycett's a beast, lucky enough to watch some of his games in his youth.

Do you guys think Lycett has the tank for a full game, and should we be subbing him out at some stage for a mobile forward..

I think this game will be won in the midfield regardless however. We will have enough forward 50 entries to win it provided we win it out of the middle.

True, but the 1991 West Coast team had peaked too early. Collingwood have been cruising along in third gear for most of the season and yet are still better than any other team this year(not saying they're a certainty, as 2008 Geelong and 2009 St Kilda showed us).

Plus, they've already overcome their Grand Final hoodoo and won't have to travel anywhere near as much as we did back then. My apologies for hi-jacking the thread. :D

OT: congrats to Scotty! Hopefully we ease him into the game and let him play at his own pace like we did with Naita in 2008.

was really excited when we picked up,considering he was supposed to go a bit earlier in the draft, showed really good forward planning. Was a bit worried he might leave if he wasnt getting much opportunity but i think he will add a lot to this team.I think kennedy is best suited to CHF so eventually Lycett could make FF his own.It really will be the land of the giants then

Wow everyone is talking him up, hope he has a good game because if he doesn't I sure as hell will be disappointed with the way people are talking in here. Reminds me of our other spuds in the teams.

i'd be surprised if he had a really good game, most guys that tall usually take a few years to even get a game.

i think it'd be a reasonable performance if he took a couple of strong grabs, maybe kicked a goal and have a handful of hitouts.

it'll be interesting to see how we manage his game time? maybe we'll use him a lot more early on and sub him out to get more run.

It's the blokes first game. Most are talking long term potential.

Not going to be surprised when he has a quiet one.
