Despite what Swan says - havnt both pfizer and the government confirmed the story is false, that there was no specific offer made in that meeting?

I believe both sides have stated the meeting was simply a "here is where we are at" type affair,
The Dept of Health government-appointed spokesperson and his underling have said that - grain of salt. I'm yet to see more than statements like Pfizer has 'reportedly' denied it. When I see something authenticated from Pfizer I'll believe it.

Swan resolutely maintains his position.

No one is dying here. The lockdowns aren’t necessary. The US has 50 odd states with varying degrees of lockdown enthusiasm and the stats show they probably do more harm than good.

I dont mean to sound disrespectful, since you seem to be talking in good faith; but for the life of me I cannot fathom how you could reach such a stupid conclusion.

The proof that lockdows work is all around you. Every time there's been an outbreak, it's been quashed. Australia has been a safe haven from this pandemic simply because they have locked down, and locked down hard.

Looking to the US to see if lockdowns work is madness. There was never any true lockdowns. Those areas that did were very lax, and only for short periods of time. Boarders remained open, people refused to wear masks and continued to gather completley unimpeded. I live in New York, and the only period of time where people largley took it seriously was in the first two weeks or so of the outbreak; which is, noy coincedentally, when the spike dropped for the city.

Lockdowns are like gun control. If you don't do it properly, and leave gaping gaps, then it doesn't work. Don't look at data from places which are half arsing it. Trust your own eyes.

Who was talking about Delta being less of an issue?

Why the delta variant appears so dangerous
The delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, initially known as B.1.617, is one of five variants of concern identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A variant of concern is one that spreads more readily, causes more severe disease, or reduces protection from vaccines or previous infections. Delta checks all three boxes.

Appears the respected Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health agrees with the medical professionals and your good self.

A 2020 study of diagnoses and deaths found that the less stringent remediation measures, such as mask and social distancing policies along with stay at home orders, taken by Republican governors led to a greater number of cases and deaths in their states.

The study author, Dr. Benjamin-Neelon noted, “These findings underscore the need for state policy actions that are guided by public health considerations rather than by partisan politics.”

Unsurprisingly the scientists are at odds with the spurious assertions from the village idiots: “The lockdowns aren’t necessary. The US has 50 odd states with varying degrees of lockdown enthusiasm and the stats show they probably do more harm than good.”

The study, “Associations Between Governor Political Affiliation and COVID-19 Cases, Deaths, and Testing in the U.S.,” appears in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

The states in the US with the highest death rates were all blue.

Maybe we can get to the front of the Delta variant vaccine queue.

Yeah that was me. Is that yet another scientific paper catastrophising the pandemic? At what point do we stop genuflecting at the Church of Science?

But the problem is you aren't thinking critically about that stat.

What else are blue states? The densest. The states with the most international arrivals. You would naturally expect New York to be in a much more vulnerable position to an international pandemic than Alabama or Wyoming.

Blue states were hit hard to begin with because they were the ports of entry. The big cities where everyone lives on top of each other and crowd closed subway cars were perfect breeding grounds for this disease to spread like wildfire.

And as I mentioned, even the blue states didn't really lock down compared to the measures in Australia. Boarders remained open, and there were no restrictions of travel.

I still don't get why you are so keen to ignore Australia's results. You don't need to look at the US, at least for any other reason than a control group.

Ah, the old 'we should be looking out for other countries' argument that the lickspittles try and wheel out when they've got nothing else. Always very amusing when they conveniently start giving a sh*t about Australia being a good global citizen. :)
Yes the very same people who get in a massive fit about how we won’t be told what to do by other countries when it comes to how much coal we use in proportion to the size of our population

Brazil is control group.
USA is for half measures/ confusion
Uk for late measures

Now quick, before we find out for sure just who came up with the 4 step plan, do we like it or not?
Good point mate.

Eighteen months into the biggest pandemic in a hundred years, when - with it becoming daily more apparent that much of our so-called government’s actions have been driven by nothing but rank political point-scoring - it finally dawns on them that they should not just be seen to have a plan, but should actually have a plan, it’s vitally important that we all resist the temptation to descend into cheap political point-scoring.

The same states that Trump turned his back on with PPE for the first 6 months of the pandemic.
Hmmm…. Got a link for this?

Seems to me as though Trump has had a rough deal in all of this. He was called a racist for closing the border to China very early.

Called a conspiracy theorist for suggesting the obvious possibility that the virus originated in a lab.

Called reckless for relaying that hydroxychloriquine might be an effective treatment for Covid.

Now I think Trump is a pig of a man, but it’s looking as though millions of lives might have been saved had certain people not rejected solutions based on “Trump”!
