After the way Pendles has been commenting on Twitter lately I believe that he should not be captain next season. Not that it should be taken off him for voicing his opinions but I just think it’s time and this would be a good excuse to give it to Moore

What has he been saying?

Is that really all that bad? A half-dozen other AFL figures have come out and said words to the same effect.

I agree, I don’t think it is that bad (even though I disagree with him, and fate put him on the wrong side of the argument)

But IMO he’s just debasing himself by getting tangled up in that stuff. Discretion is the better part of valour.

He does seem to like commentating on things. I guess he's not used to being locked at home during the Finals :p

I never want to be the "shut up and dribble guy", but sometimes players do say silly things.

Pendles seems to be talking more now than at any time in his career and I must say the old Scott who did not put a foot wrong was more preferable.

He may not be what he once was but he could play 2 seasons easily at a high standard still, he does not dominate like he used to but he has not hit the wall like Sidey has if we got a 2nd rd for Sidebottom we take it and keep on running.

From time immemorial, ageing sporting athletes all around the world have had to come to terms with their declining value.

In the AFL it’s the shock of being delisted, or traded, or being offered a lower-than-expected contract. Players often struggle to come to terms with it, they struggle to accept it.

Who knows, maybe for GW he’s just offered Pendles a contract for what he thinks he’s worth. And maybe for Pendles he just thinks it’s the opening gambit of a negotiation with a list manager who he hasn’t dealt with before?

Maybe there is more to play out here …

I’m totally cool with players putting themselves out there. It’s often a good thing.

But some players can pull it off and some players can’t.

Michael Jordan was an example of a fine athlete who could pull it off. When he spoke he spoke with confidence and silky gravitas, and his stocks probably rose if that was even possible.

David Beckham was an example of a fine athlete who could not pull it off. He was far better off keeping his mouth shut.

IMO Scott Pendlebury is more David Beckham and less Michael Jordan.

I think we're probably overthinking this a bit. I don't see anything wrong in that tweet that would detract from Pendles exemplary character reputation that he has built up over the years.

Sure, that would be an over-reaction to the tweet.

But my opinion about Pendlebury is based on a wide body of work. Strong character on the field. But off field when he opens his mouth I just find him a bit cringy. Happy to accept that’s just me.

This one is my favourite. Note that it was 9 days before the current NSW outbreak. He is anti-lockdown etc..., Implying that NSW know what they are doing and Victoria doesn't.

Didn't age very well.

It was quite the consensus that NSW had handled it better than us prior to this outbreak, given how many deaths our major outbreak saw.

Those takes have of course, aged like milk

But the experts knew that NSW got lucky last year. As soon as the virus got into their equivalent of our northern suburbs, they were gone and their cases are higher than ours ever were. It might be Delta but this year we have a vaccine.

Maybe, I'm not sure that anyone was forecasting NSW getting an outbreak and instead of taking action deciding to sit there and twiddle their thumbs while the virus got away from them. Yet here we are
