As I said in the survey thread, 4/10. We are Essendon, and we play finals. Simple as that.

However, I said at the start of the year (I can't remember whether it was on here or not) that equalling or bettering last year is a step in the right direction. Considering our injury list, equalling 12th is decent.

I said 5/10.

I really expected us to push for the 8 and we didn't really do that, but the injuries were a big factor and are fairly uncontrollable so i compensated for this.

So a guess 5/10 is 'not a great season, but didn't waste the year either'

5/10

New coaching staff with new game plan takes time to implement.

Young team plus plenty of injuries to key players to deal with.

Missed out on the finals however good improvement and game time into the kids.

5/10

Round 1- Great start
Round 2- Disgraceful
Round 3- Good Match
Rounds 4-11- ABSOULETLY SHOCKING
Rounds 12-16- Good wins
Round 17- Should have won, thanks to Bowden
Round 18- Lloyd on FIRE!
Rounds 19-22- VERY DISSAPOINTING

Overall, a very ordinary season.:mad::mad::mad:

Considering we had the most inexperience coaching staff at AFL level, lost our club legend who also took out our B&F last year, everyone had us dead last or not far off that and the worst injury toll in the AFL, we had a pretty decent season to finish in 12th.

Unearthed a few good youngsters and some brilliant ones.

Probably a 6/10 but considering the hurdles we had to overcome during the year injury wise, we did quite well.

4.
our best and worst performance were too far apart imo. cannot neglect the fact that we majorly stunk it up for eight to ten weeks, and had no defensive side to our game.

i'm not sure we got a hell of a lot of develpoment into our younger players either, 80% developed a worn track to the doc's clinic.

in saying those things though, i did see a lot of potential in our players and hope they get a good run in 09. .

7/10 for me. Fresh new coach with a radically-different gameplan, a few games where it all clicked and the Bombers looked almost awesome, a few more gritty performances. Some key injuries really hurt the team. I liked the way they (and the coach!) persisted with the attacking style of footy. When they found the right mix of attack and defence, they looked terrific. Hille and McVeigh both put their hands up as potential captains and tried to fill the void left by Hirdy. And let's not forget the Captain himself, who fought back from ordinary form to lead with great distinction in difficult times.

Certainly a 4 or 5/10 season. Foubd some and stalled some. The one's we are most eager to see in Gumbleton/Myers have been injured but others like Lonergan and Riemers have blossomed. Can't see how anyone can give this season a 7+ out of 10. We didn't make finals and we couldn't get as many games into the youngsters as we would have liked. Still it was a promising season and with a bit of luck ie. a normal injury list we are looking at finals next year. ist is very young and should be able to get passed the comproised drafts unlike some other clubs. Timed our run well in that respect. Gumbleton is my word for 09. If he becomes a star within 2-3 years our future will look much brighter. If he flops....nah never mind. Lets pump the games into this kid. Refuse to play him in th VFL when there is a spot in the seniors. Absolutely no point whatsoever in him playing VFL unless he is coming off a long injury stint.

I gave our season a 5/10 av

Pros
Houli, Hille, Lonergan, McVeigh, Monfries, Myers, Nash, Neagle, Pears, Reimers, Ryder, Slattery, Stanton, Watson, Welsh, sorry if I’ve missed anyone but all improving and showing we have a good future to look forward to.

Retirees making way for young squad
Knights!

Cons
Injuries which lead to us loosing many winable games.
However the biggest con imo was Dempsy and Winderlich
Dyson not matching the preseason hype
The greats turning one year older (Lloyd, lucas, fletch)

Gumbleton being injured

and Laycock enough said

5/10.
Even though we finished towards the rear end of the ladder, we unearthed a few young talents and were adapting to Knights's gameplan. Expecting next year to be a lot better, have a good core of young players coming through (Eg. Stanton, Houli, Gumby, Jetta, Myers, etc) and that will be added onto the list again this year and lets not forget, we need to give Knights time as he has only been in the job 1 year and has shown that he is more than capable of keeping the opposition coaches & players on their toes. Hopefully we can have a very limited injury list next year and push into the top eight. :thumbsu:

I think a 5 out of 10 fits.

From a positive point of view, we covered a big transition very well, we had a large group of young players slot into positions within our best 22, and at our best we showed we could mix it with just about anyone.

On the negatives, there were times when we completely dropped our bundle. We looked completely disorganised at times, and some of our set plays were particularly ordinary.

Ultimately, there were signs that we could be up to it. The only way to sum the year up in my opinion.
