Fixture Season 2025

The AFL fixture is due to be released on Thursday and it will be interesting to see how much our fall from grace impacts the draw we're given.

Being the reigning wooden spoon side, you wouldn't expect us to feature in a lot of prime time games with our R1 game against Carlton ANZAC Eve and Dreamtime at the G likely to be the only games we're given.

Round 1 will see us host Carlton in the traditional first game in Melbourne on Thursday March 13th at the MCG. ANZAC Eve will be in round 7 also on a Thursday night, while Dreamtime is likely to be our Round 10 game.

I think it's worth reminding people about the quirks of the fixture. As a bottom 6 side our draw will be weighted so that the following is taken into account.

Bottom 6 v Top 6 - We will have at least 1 double up against a top 6 side, there is a chance we can get 2 - Brisbane Sydney Port Adelaide Geelong GWS Hawthorn

Bottom 6 v Mid 6 - As above we will have 1 double up and possibly 2 - Carlton Bulldogs Collingwood Fremantle Essendon Saints

Bottom 6 v Bottom 6 - We will get 2 or 3 double ups against the fellow bottom 6 sides - Gold Coast Melbourne Adelaide WCE North Melbourne

At a guess I can see the following double ups happening

Brisbane - we've only played them once in Melbourne since 2019 so they could be the top 6 side that we get drawn against. The other option would be Hawthorn given the last 4 games against them have had crowds over 55k so would make sense.

Mid 6 is interesting, with Carlton Collingwood & Essendon all being in the mix. From a broadcaster point of view having us play 2 of them would be ideal, while Fremantle could be a chance given the Bolton trade

Bottom 6 - WCE could be a chance given the link between the 2 side with Baker Graham & McQualter all heading to WCE this year. Melbourne we've only played 2 times in a season once since 2019 so could be an option. Gold Coast once again with the Hardwick link could be an option.

Personally I'd go Hawthorn Essendon Collingwood North & WCE

What's your view on the "weighted" aspect of the draw?

Theoretically, a top 6 side could end up with the 2 double ups in each of the 3 sections.

A bottom 6 side could end up with the same.

With teams playing 23 games now, it should be a simple case of play 17 games, then have 2 double ups against teams from the top 6 mid 6 and bottom 6. At least make the draw somewhat even for every side

More Saturday 1:45 games please. Get the disappointment out of the way as early as possible so we can all go spend Saturday Night at the Royal.
yzes final season

Cats fixture man surely would never dream of giving us a double up against norf, it’ll be overhyped grudge matches vs gc or eagles then whoever tracks better out of Adelaide or Melbourne. Expect the timing of these games to be the greatest inconvenience to rfc as well.

We’ll be going to quaynzlend in March, away at the sardine can gmjfceggeyb stadium around the bye, our marvel home game will be against the team we play on some camel shit coin ground in gather round.

I doubt we’ll have to go to the gabba.
Due for a rest from there and lost by 200 points combined the last 2 games there.
Hopefully no game in Geelong or Norwood.
Keep the crowds as big as possible and hopefully an early win.
We are due to play 2 games in Sydney also. Swans and Giants.
Prefer we play in Adelaide and Perth over Queensland and hopefully no game in Tasmania or Northern Territory.
Hoping only 2 games at Etihad.

When you're the reigning wooden spoon team, you can't expect to be playing weekly marquee games like we were in our prime. Don't mind spending some time off Broadway while we get the cast sorted for the next must see Punt Road production

We may be shit currently but still one of the best drawing teams.

Which is exactly why we get shafted.

We're not getting shafted, it's more to do with broadcasters, especially 7, wanting games where they're at least getting a competitive game to keep the ratings up. We'll still get our share of marquee games, but we shouldn't be expecting to be on prime time every week like we used to be

No one is rocking up to games. The only decent crowd we had was for Dusty’s 300th
