I've heard Wes Hall describe that last over - it's one of the funniest things I've ever heard. Particularly when his skipper says, "I'm watching you Winfield, and if you bowl a no ball, you will never land in Barbados again!!!"Spot on. Ambrose frankly terrified me, even as a spectator. Sadly the days of the Windies producing demon fast bowlers is gone. Cricket is the poorer for it.
The lineage really began with Wes Hall who famously bowled the last over of the tied Test in Brisbane. Somewhere there will be a recording of Wes describing the over. It takes about ten minutes and is fekkin lolworthy. I met Wes and he was a wonderful bloke as is my cricketing hero Garry Sobers.
Apologies AceAndy and manangatang - got distracted by the cricket yesterday.
We are now almost on the eve of what could become a famous Grand Final. Both teams would be deserving winners. Each has stars on every line.
I have a real sense that the game will go to the wire. Will it take a snapped behind to determine the result?
My prediction is that Ace will, at the 19 minute mark of Q4, go on a Ray Gabelich type run (see 1964 GF in the minor VFL comp). Ace will remember to bounce just in time and roost a massive goal from the wing.
Scores will be levelled. Play then will go from end to end...
Until ultimate Deestroy Medallist Callums_Guns rips the ball from the confused and overwhelmed veteran DemonGym, takes a run and delivers a hospital handpass to star recruit moginie who snaps a behind just as the siren blows.
