Where's all my fellow Rats gone?

Guess I'll have to drink all the beer myself.

TheInjuryFactory I see that sad react you gave me about not being as focused on the individual stats this season, meaning that all we have on the history between these 2 clubs is this post from Gremio.
The War-Rats: round 22

The name may look awful, but it doesn’t matter. It’s Brazilian inspired, after derbies like Fla-Flu (Flamengo v. Fluminense), Grê-Nal (Grêmio v. Internacional), Atletiba (Atlético v. Coritiba), Bra-Pel (Brasil v. Pelotas), etc. It could have been Warrats, but the idea of “war rats” won me over. Thus, the showdown between Swamprats and Warriors was named “War-Rats.”

In S31R09, Swampies and Wazzas will play against each other for the 22nd time in SFA history. The Rats have faced no team fewer than Coney Island. The closest would be the Royals, which we have met 28 times already.

Overall, SCS leads the H2H: 12-8-1. The only tie happened in S28R05.

The meeting’s short history can be divided into three separated moments:

a. S18-S20 (5 matches) – SCS on top, 4-1;
b. S21-S27R10 (10) – CIW ahead, 6-4;
c. S27PF-S30 (6) – adv. SCS, 4-1-1.

Coney Island has only one streak (2 matches, both in S24), while the Rats have two: one 4-match (S18-S20) and one 3-match (S28-S30) winning streak. The latter is part of a 5-match unbeaten streak.

Regarding season series, the overall record is:
- Swamprats, 6 (S19/S20/S23/S25/S28/S29)
- Warriors, 2 (S21/S24)

There have been 5 seasons that ended in draw (S18/S22/S26/S27/S30).

This series has the Rats’ greatest W% (59.52%) and third biggest win differential (+4). The Swampies also won the only Finals’ face-off between the clubs (S27PF).

However, the Warriors have won both the first (S18R05) and the last (S30R16) War-Rats.

Can the Wazzas have its second winning streak ever against the Rats? Or will Sin City immediately rebound from a loss against Coney Island for the 6th time in War-Rats’ History?
What does this post tell us? It tells us that the end result is the only result that wins and loses games. But there's so much more than the final siren that determines whether or not a team was good or not. Sometimes, the best team isn't always the winning team. Like that feeling of "we shouldn't have won that". How often does it happen? Well, let's have a look at what made those previous 21 War-Rats games memorable.

Season 18, Round 5
The first match-up certainly had its ups-and-downs. After being down by a massive 18 points (2.1 to 5.1) at Quarter-Time, Coney Island piled on 12 goals in the second half (including kicking 6 goals 10 in the 3rd quarter alone to 2 goals 1) to take out the inaugural outing as 46 point winners at the old Alberton Oval.

Season 20, Round 8
The 4th match-up was almost the direct opposite of the first game. Coney Island came out the blocks, keeping the Swamprats scoreless at the first break while scoring 5.1 themselves and 9.1 at the main break to 4.5. However the 3rd quarter would not be so kind with the Warriors going goaless themselves, scoring a solitary point in that term and a total of 2 goals 4 for the entire second half. Sin City would end up 5 point winners at the Underground Stadium despite that trouble.

Season 20, Round 12
Four weeks later, the 5th match-up occurred and it was a much more dominant affair for Sin City. Down 11.5 to 14.5 at the final break, Coney Island scored a woeful 3 goals 9 to kick themselves out of the contest and end up 10-point losers despite having 5 extra scoring shots. This also saw the Swamprats get a 5-game winning streak with this game at Van Cortlandt Park.

Season 21, Round 9
Match-up 6 was looking like much of the same for the 2 teams at Half-Time with the Swamprats leading by 12 points (6.0 to 7.6) at the main break. The Warriors, however, managed to rally themselves and score 10.6 to 7.2 to see them get their second win over Sin City and win by 10 points at the Underground Stadium.

Season 22, Round 4
Game 7 was going to be what might have happened in Game 6. The Warriors didn't help themselves when they reached Half-Time with an inaccurate score of 4 goals 8 (including only scoring a goal, 3 behinds in the 2nd quarter). At the final siren, Sin City had scored 21.12 (138) to be 62-point winners in what is still today one of the worst games Coney Island have ever played (and a Van Cortlandt game as well).

Season 22, Round 15
The return game of No.8 kept the trend the Warriors were having with Sin City, scoring only 1 goal 1 in the 2nd term and behind the Swamprats by 19 points (8.6 to 11.7) at the final break. This, however, wasn't going to end like the previous game and Coney Island flipped the script, scoring 5 goals to Sin City's 1 in the final term to win by 7 points at the Underground.

Season 24, Round 12
Match-up No.11 played much like the first. Sin City started the game with 5 goals to the Warriors 3 to be ahead by 16 at the first break. From then, the Warriors would be the controlling team, finishing the game 21-points ahead with a 2-game winning streak and ending Season 24 undefeated against the Swamprats at Van Cortlandt Park.

Season 26, Round 13
The Fourteenth game was never going to go Coney Island's way from the get-go, when the Warriors were held to just 1 goal at the end of the first break with the Swamprats kicking 6 themselves. This would set the tempo for the rest of the game. Despite the Warriors actually scoring more points for the rest of the game, that start would be their undoing and Sin City would finish 18-points in front at Van Cortlandt Park.

Season 27, Round 10
Game 15 and finally some fortune would go Coney Island's way. While the Swamprats would be in the lead at the main break again, the Warriors would pile on 7 goals 3 to Sin City's 3 goals 1 to never give up the lead for the rest of the game and winning by 27-points at Van Cortlandt Park. We skip over the Preliminary Final, not because the Warriors lost by 20, but because statistically it was a standard 20-point loss.

Season 28, Round 16
Deja Vu hit again for Game 18 as it started almost the same way as Game 14. The Warriors once again were kept to a single goal at Quarter-Time while conceding 6 goals to Sin City. Any hopes of another comeback win for the Underground went away as the Swamprats won the game by 19-points in a sequence of games where this feeling was becoming too familiar with these teams.

Season 29, Round 9
Talking about Deja Vu, Game 19 ended up being a repeat of Game 7. A terrible outing for Coney Island that saw them, once again, kept to 1 goal at the first break and Sin City scoring 9.1 in the last quarter. The Swamprats final score was 21.12 (137) and they won the game by 52. Not as bad as Game 7, but a 52-point loss at the Underground still sucks no matter what you compare it to.

Season 30, Round 5
Game 20 was a lower-scoring game, so the Swamprats would really have to try in order to smash us one more time. And that what they did. The Warriors waited for the 2nd quarter to get in their 1 goal quarter this time round, and even went for another go at it when they kicked just 1 goal in the 4th. Coney Island was only on 3 goals 6 at the main break and would finish the game 47-point losers at the Underground as they hadn't beaten Sin City while Ant Bear was admin.

Season 30, Round 16
Talking about Ant Bear, his last game as admin was against his bunny. Coney Island, however, said "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore".
Game 21 was another game where the Warriors were down by 2 goals at the first 2 breaks, they finally managed to get the better of Sin City and by the end of the game, finished 5-points ahead and end a 5-match winless streak in front of the Van Cortlandt faithful.

Season 31, Round 9
Game 22 will most likely see the Warriors behind at the main break, only 4 War-Rat games have seen Coney Island ahead at Half-Time. The only difference this time is the rejuvenated list of Coney Island. Can the Warrior's new burst of energy be too much for Sin City to handle, or will the Swamprats show that it wasn't the Touch of Ant Bear allowing them to walk all over. I guess there's only 1 way to find out.

P.S. The Warriors won Game 13 so we've won the moral victory.
