I bought my dog into work today. Last time I did that he was sick and laid down like a good dog and was pretty easy to deal with at work. Now he is no longer sick all he wants to do is meet everyone, explore the garden, explore the office. So now what I am dealing with is a dog sitting at the office door whinging to go outside
That’s adorable, if he taking photos of his own butt on the Xerox machine?

Getting serious for a second. Yes this is it.
The older generations who go after the younger generations are conveniently forgetting that in the past a tradie could support an entire family to live a middle class lifestyle on his own. There are now people without kids who are both working and struggling to find an affordable house that isn't 1-1.5+ hours away from work etc. So the work/life balance seems to have changed for the average family.
Yep.

5 years ago, I was on $70k with 5 kids in a single income household. Still able to travel.

Now, between us, we’re up to double that, with only 3 kids left at home, and pushing shit uphill.

I worry for people who seem to be ok, having not changed anything. At some point the cliff is going to come.

I bought my house almost 2 years ago. I was able to refinance 12 months later because our house value had increased by 25%. At that time I was earning an extra 40% before taxes (I was being severely underpaid at my old job and even now am still on slightly below market rate) my wife was still on roughly the same though slightly more and we wouldn't have been able to afford our house, which is not grand by any means, more so leaning towards shithole territory.

Pretty sure there's a heavy dose of sarcasm, maybe a touch of irony and poking in Ligma posts on these topics.
Been spending too much time on the pretending to be Aussie boomers fb page

I'd like to think so, but my youngest, who only has two jobs, came home on Monday with a fairly amusing story about a customer who whinged for a good fifteen minutes about how nobody wanted to work.

It's tiresome.
It’s tiresome bailing people all the time.

Just on the work/life balance.

Coming up to two years ago I quit my job after shit went down.

I was on 'unders' and could have easily gone to a similar role for about 15-20% more. We made the decision that I would start my own business/firm instead. Obviously a hard slog starting from scratch and potentially some short-mid term pain.

However, with a (then) 2 year old and me already feeling like I was missing out we flipped the conversation on its head. I wanted to be able to decide to leave work at 3PM and go pick up the 2yo from childcare and go to the playground etc. That was more important to me than the extra hours and the money.

So now I work closer to 25-30 hours a week compared to the ~40-45 hours I was doing (which was regularly closer to ~45-50 before we had our kid). Yet I get to do the kindergarten drop offs, early pick ups, the first option to take a day off if the little one is unwell etc yet now after two years of plugging away on my own business I am on similar to what I was before I quit my last job, despite doing ~10 hours less a week (with much less additional stress etc).

Long story short, I never knew what work/life balance actually was until I went for it. Yet the funny thing is I still catch myself quite often feeling ''guilty'' that i'm not working 9-5. It's so ingrained in our beings that we have to work, work, work and if we dont, we're not doing life right.

Amazing that you know so many people you have to post bail for. It's good that you know so many recidivists.
I know this is a wannabe zinger but it’s so sad because it’s true.

Government relaxed the bail laws got no choice but to bail, can’t remand someone if it doesn’t pose a threat.

I’ve been pretty lucky with jobs, never had to work more than 1 and always been able to balance study, sport and my life. I quit my casual job in feb because I got a full time Job pretty easily (which I’m very lucky for).

I have a good friend who did the same.
For whatever reason him and his wife (my mate was 46 when his son was born) had really given up on having kids because of their age and then it just happened. So he quit where we worked together to start up his own thing so that he could have more time at home and with his son.
He has become decently successful in a short and although still working more hours than he was originally planning, because it is his own business he can leave when he wants pick up his kid from wherever and work at home if he needs to catch up etc.
I have been able to throw some work his way because my new job is as a project manager on the client side rather than the builders side, which is also far less stressful and why I am happy to be paid slightly unders. I couldn't imagine going back to work for a builder now and to be enticed to do it I would have to get a really significant, almost unrealistic offer.

I’m a professional qootballer. The nights are long and the threads occasionally lonely.

DragoDelph anyway can we go back to attaching each other for the rest of the week please? I don't think I can perform at my best if we have good interactions like we have had.

So on that note the only thing that blows more hot air than a real dragon is the Dragons FFC.
Yeah, ok.

you're the second-best thor persona in this comp.

I hope you guys host a cricket game when you play the Phawks. I hear PhenomenalV1 just loves a good game of cricket 🤗
