This sort of vice I have used in the past in making up canvas stretchers.Bought this Dawn mitre/framing vice a month or so ago, cause why not/only one I've seen/ It's a Dawn.

Sidchrome had bought Dawn and Joplin vices in 1973, Joplin were making the framing /mitre vice for a while.

In 1977 Joplin was wound up and in 1978 Dawn started making a mitre/framing vice - wonder where they got the inspiration ?

The Joplin arrived yesterday, don't really need it but it's also only one I've seen, LOL just bought it for the shared history, easy to show the linage with them both. And can't really see me using or needing them - I just be preserving some Aussie manufacturing history.
You people can probably understand why I have my own thread now - I be Nuts.
I'm a total fan of tracking histories via objects, across a lot of areas and particularly Australiana & unique Australian design solutions, which are under appreciated.
When travelling I love going to the most obscure single interest museums possible. Eg. The funeral museum in a basement in the back blocks of Madrid's suburbs. I'm yet to meet anyone else who's seen it.
I don't think it's nuts at all Kenny, it's all interesting and it's always interesting learning about it.
