Gov has fallen off a cliff, no doubt.

But not sure how you can question list management TBH.
When he signed his new contract, he was on his way to a 3rd AA, played a crucial role in the GF and was generally
regarded as the best defender the comp.

Other clubs were lining up for him.
It seems overs now, but at the time it was market value.

The majority of players fail to live up to their contracts once they cash in. The lesson is no big money long term contracts.

Didn't hear anyone complaining about his new deal after we won the GF.

I thought it was too expensive at the time of signing. Posters mostly just seemed to enjoy the schadenfreude after he was linked to Fremantle. People laughing at Freo fans suggesting that it would weaken our ability to attract players, yet we’re already seeing that happening (eg not being in the hunt for Jordan Clark).

No supporter was complaining about anything after we won the GF, let alone players’ contracts. Implying we won the flag because we re-signed someone earlier that year seems a stretch though.

Honestly I probably wouldn’t have given two shits if McGovern walked out on the club because we weren’t willing to make him one of the competition’s top 5 paid players. Intercepting KPD guns are not that rare these days. Ridley and Stewart became elite in no time at all. Hell even Liam Jones looked like the GOAT on occasions later in his career.

If tackling truly is a teachable skill as the club believes it to be, and we overhauled the midfield coaching structure in the offseason ... What the fu** it's going on?

Any glimpses of improvement in this area? Seemed all the club did in the offseason was post tackling photos seemingly designed solely to placate this board.
To be fair coaching Ive learned theres those that learn to tackle and those who just do it, some people it just isnt natural. In saying that if i was getting paid to do it get good at it.

As I mentioned last game too, he would be a starter if I was coach. Hes always one of our best tacklers and gets stuck in everytime.
Why does it seem the coaching team don’t rate him? No matter how well he plays, he’s never a lock for the team, struggles for consecutive games.
Are there off-field issues? Just seems baffling.

I've noticed a bit last year and even this game with Witherden one or 2 eithers our guys will go a bump when there in position to lay a tackle strange coaching if told to do it and lends itself to suspensions if they hit them high.

Yeah i wondered that last year too. Even in games where he seemed one of the few trying hard. Be out the next week.

So Witherden is sitting out a match for putting a bump on a player where the player then took the free kick and ran away to play out the rest of the game.

Trent Cotchin bumps and concusses an opposing team's best player putting him out for the rest of a prelim and is free to play the GF the next week.

Never change AFL. I'm waiting for the day a QC runs a montage of these ridiculous decisions at the tribunal to show the AFLs complete lack of consistency.

Just glad I didn't have to listen to the commentary propaganda bias, every time it's an eagle the media will run with the "ooo he'll be in trouble over that one". East coast player, "just unfortunate, clearly didn't mean to take him front on".

Gambling suspension inconsistency between Stephenson (22-game ban, of which 10 games were suspended, and a $22,000 fine in 2019 after being found guilty of making three bets on Collingwood matches totalling $36) and Rhys Nicholls (two-match ban and was fined $5000 for making 10 bets totalling $256 on AFL games last year, with six of those bets on Suns games) is also crazy.

Stephenson played in the games he betted on though didn't he? So he had direct influence on the game. I would think that would attract a bigger ban.

And wasn't one of them about how many goals he kicked?

And then he lined up a torp from outside 50 to try to win the bet (he may have even kicked it... but I'm not sure).

Didnt Nicholls allegedly not make the bets, it was someone using his account?

He did kick it and everyone frothed, I’m pretty sure

-=Witherdon.I find it hard to be angry at a player who dishes out a good bump.Yeh yeh i know; shouda' tackled!!. Its nice to see a bit of aggression, something sorely missing in recent seasons.
- Jones was good.
-Hough was good.
-Petrol? I was a fan but im going off him in a hurry.Doesnt work hard enough. If we could combine him with Langdon gawd we'd have a good player.
-Williams isnt much of a ruckman. He should be trained up to take over from JK.We can then sign Stradnica[?] as backup ruck.
-NN needs to concentrate more on his second effort than his first.Opposition rucks are so big they are getting as high as him almost stalemating hium in the air,but they cant match him when it hits the deck.
-With a plethora of small forwards why bomb high to the forward line.Lets borrow from Richmond and grubber chaos balls in there.Imagine trying to stop Ryan,Rioli and Jones on the ground.Good luck with that.

My favourite part of that is he bet on Suns games but didn't win a single bet he placed. Imagine being so caught up in the hype within the 4 walls you keep making bets and then the team constantly sucks once the ball is bounced

Maybe he bet Dew would eat 10 Whoppers at half time and the big fella ploughed through 15 to win his own bet against Gov.
