And tell me how Port Adelaide benefited from stamping their foot and taking their bat and ball and going home?

The hard heads at WC won't allow the club to lose Judd for nothing. Wherever he goes, they'll get as much as they can for him. IMO The momentary flash of gratification from screwing over Judd is for jilted fans in their own imaginations, not professional administrators who will scrap for any advantage they can find.

How did Port benefit? Well they went on to win a Premiership soon afterwards so it sure didn't damage the team by forcing one of their star players and vice-captain in the PSD. You could argue that Stevens was the biggest loser by going into the PSD.

They won a premiership despite giving away a good player for nothing, not because of it.

A flag doesn't retrospectively justify every bad decision made prior to it.

Firstly, I dont want Judd to come to collingwood unless it is a major steal like our first pick and johnson or lonie... Dont care how much he is worth. Personally if a trade is to happen for Judd, i hope he goes to melbourne and the deal is fair an equitable for both teams, a top 5 pick, a top 20 pick and young kid with potential at the most, as no single player is worth a teams soul.

What i really want to see though, is Judd say "only Collingwood" and then the entire trade system to be shot in the arse due to restraint of trade. The trade and draft system is a joke and it needs to be changed, if West Coast have to be the team to take a bullet for thatso be it, i salute them, and hope they take it like Harry Morant and the famous last words "Shoot straight you bastards, dont make a mess of it!"

If you asked Port today if there was any regrets in hindsight regarding the way they handled Stevens, I would be surprised if they said they would have handled it differently. Port were happy, Collingwood and Stevens were not.

So we should send our players the message that if they want to go home we wont help them in any way? That should help us entice interstate kids come draft time.

Oh, and it'll make it a whole lot easier for us to swing trades when we want guys like Stenglien or Chick back.

Clubs will say lots of things to rationalise poor decisions. Fact is, they lost a good player for nothing. If that's good management, I'm Priscilla Presley.

Chick and Stenglien both were trade for top 10 draft picks. Thats a fair trade. If West Coast get a fair trade for Judd then there will be no problems.

Do you think Chick or Stenglien would have been traded to West Coast for pick 51? I think not.

You think Judd will be traded for pick 51. Dont exaggerate because your argument is a joke.

Moot point really, Essendon, Carlton and Melbourne are all desperate to get Judd and will provide the auction competition needed. I mean lets get real now, how often does a 24 year old Premiership, Norm Smith, Brownlow, AFL MVP, All-Australian, Best and Fairest, Marketers/Sponsors wet dream become available to ailing Vic clubs?

Despite all that I still think West Coast have still got the cattle to win the premiership next year even if they get zilch for Judd.

Chick and Stinger are just a small part of the argument (you haven't addressed the rest for some reason) but if you think about it, the fact that we didn't shaft clubs over Chick and Stinger could be why Judd isn't going to enter the PSD.

Anyhow the point is if we accommodate players, players will remember it, not just our players but players from everywhere and we'll be able to sell our club better to draft prospects and guys on the trade table. Not only that but our guys will feel good knowing that they're going to get looked after, whether it's being traded to where they want to be or looked after once they retire.

It's bad business to shaft someone when everyone in Australia can see it.

Incidently, I'm pretty sure there was no top 10 pick involved in the Stenglien trade.

If you read the statement properly pick 51 was the argument for Stenglein or Chick not Judd. But if that makes you look clever than carry on even though it makes you look ridiculous.

I think he was trying to point out that we'll get something* for Judd no matter what.

I mean, even if we panic, we could get pick 3 and 20.

* I'm taking pick 51 to have no value.

We'll get 2 & 17 for Morton AND Judd, seeing as we'll be sending Judd into the PSD as a result of the trade.

We could do better than that trading with Collingwood or Carlton, but I think Gunnar's main aim is that it'll screw Judd over.

I'm sure that, unlike some posters, the team will put common sense ahead of their personal feelings towards Judd's actions and get the best deal for the team.

Why would you send Judd into the PSD. Just trade Judd & Morton to the Tigers for pick 2 & 18, thats of course if you cant get a better deal done before Friday.

But it wouldn't be shafting Judd, would it? He's said he wants to go home to Victoria, and being sent to the PSD would achieve that.

If he wants to pick a set of clubs though, then we need something fair in return. Otherwise he goes where he causes us the least damage - Richmond.

Jesus Christ. He gave you a premiership and you shove him off?

Your supporters are a joke.

Because Judd isn't really looking at Richmond as an option.

The move would be a retaliation to Judd saying he wants Collingwood and Collingwood ONLY and they offer us Wakelin and Pick52 or something.

Sure, Richmond could say screw it and just get him for free in PSD.... in which case we would end up taking Collingwood's offer.

Whilst I'd be pissed off if we end up with nothing in a trade, we do need to be prepared to walk away.

Face it, if Judd asks to be traded to Collingwood, they would be the laughing stock of the AFL if they missed out on him because they wouldn't offer anything better than their first round pick and a fringe player.

We won't get full value but we will do OK out of it.

What the hell are you talking about, chris judd is no certainty to be the player he was with the eagles, why beacuse of the players around him.He isn't going to have other gun players around him like kerr.cousins etc and a great ruckman like cox feeding him and a of course a good forward line,if he went to other clubs like carlton, essendon, melbourne.
At collingwood he will have a close replica of the eagles in a year or two
once we can get a number one ruckman. Our midfield-- judd, thomas, pendlebury, swan, didak, johnson, burns, davis, holland, dick, and a host of others next year.

You are a joke. He did NOT "give" us a premiership[. The premiership was won by the 22 players competing on the day - and the others who played during the year.

He would not be a premiership player, brownlow medalist and norm smith medalist without the rest of the West Coast Eagles. He owes us nothing and we owe him nothing.

As he wants to go home to Victoria for family reasons, he should agree to go to the club which can provide the best trade for the club which took him as an 18 year old with dodgy shoulders and helped make him a star. If he holds the club to ransom, then he will lose the respect of most of the football world.

He wants to return to Victoria. Richmond is in Victoria.

West Coast are not going to send the best player in the AFL to a top 4 rival without due compensation.

How thick are you?

P.S. I reckon West Coast gave Judd a fair bit too.

How?

Richmond might just really, really want Morton ;)

I don't see how Richmond would go for it though. They might "accidently" forget to send thier copy of the fax, meaning they get Judd in the PDS for squat.

The all works in principle, but if sending Judd into the pre-season draft isn't officially part of the trade, then it's not enforceable. We'd already have the trade finished before we'd have to send Judd into the draft. Richmond wouldn't just trust all that loot to us on something off the records.

That's true but once he nominated his clubs it became our responsibility to try to get him where he wants to go. If we don't then it will reflect us badly. Sure, we could always say he got to Victoria but players will know that he didn't get to his preferred club.

Anyhow, I'll be very shocked if it comes to the point where we're not getting a decent enough trade for the best player in the comp.
