If Choco wants 4 years... Give him 5.

IMO the only way Kingsley is half a chance is if Choco wants massive $ & we simply don't have them.

If that's the case, go cap in hand to the AFL & get the money.

I want to make a few points:
Hes not Malcolm Blight.
Hes hungry; and hes hungry to win
To make big money you have to take a big risk. (In this game money= winning)
Hes worth the risk.
He still has stuff left to prove.
He didnt win the AFCAVic Coaches Award for nothing.
Sign him up for 4 years and get him in for the long haul.
Stability is what we need in St Kilda. particularly in the coaches department.

100% spot on, FFS sign him for 5 years

If Adam Kingsley is our coach next year F#@$#k

I fear for the future of our club

Why? You keep saying he's no good and we shouldn't appoint him but you never explain why he's 'no good'

In 2009 we were as dominant as the Carlton of 95, the West Coast of early 90's, the Bombers of '99/'00 and of Collingwood of '10/'11. We were a great team for that one year. To do what we did in '10 was great as well. Both years worthy of praise IMO.

Go have that argument with a Carlton, West Coast, Essendon or Collingwood fan. They have the ultimate trump card. Looks like this.

Call it fickle, harsh etc. Success is measured by these, we didn't win them so all our "dominance" counts for nothing.

It's taking away from the initial point, we don't deserve to get the praise that Geelong, Hawthorn or Collingwood got for the 2007-2011 period.

I thinks it's because he doesn't get much light in the public so no one's really sure what he does

That's the thing, how many assistant coaches get much public attention. Not many.

Because the very last thing we need in my opinion is another untried coach. We need a senior coach like a Mark Williams, or Gary Ayres. If we go to a untested coach again, we are going back two years in time. Nothing personally against Adam Kingsley, but he's not the highest profile assistant coach going around and I don't believe he has the experience to take the job over at St Kilda. Give me one good reason why we should appoint him.

Is he the guy they call turtle?

They seem to love him.

Watched him make his way down the line when queuing at a function last year, seems to be liked.

Whilst I agree I think if we are going down other path then Kingsley would be very good appointment.

Great footy brain & is well respected by everyone (even outside saints is highly regarded). He's had plenty of experience under few coaches so not sure that's such big issue. Good in development with kids aswell, which with our list is vital for incoming coach.

Reckon positive with McPhee is that he's such outstanding development coach, so with such young list he can really develop the kids into what he wants (if that makes sense). He's more or less doing this in VFL and with his time at Saints now anyway.

Develop players/gameplan/coach and everyone be on same page once 2015/2016 comes when we are ready to attack premiership again.

Also think fact he's coached his own side in WAFL & VFL puts him ahead of alot other people. Whilst the jump might be seen as big, I dont think its that much when you consider how many assistant coaches have never coached their own side.
Possibly a stupid question but is McPhee employed by Saints or Sandy?

Fair bit of talk about Kingsley but it was also mention that Simon McPhee our current VFL coach has also been interviewed. From what I hear about him he is a very good coach. Doesn't have much of a playing resume but then again Brendan McCartney from the Western Bulldogs doesn't either and seems to be making a difference at the Bulldogs.

Is McPhee given any hope of getting the top job? I hope so.

Would the two assistants Kingsley and McPhee be interviewed as part of their professional development? Told that they are to interview and go through the process, so in the future when they are really going for a senior position they have this interview process experience behind them. If so this would be a sensible move by the club and to be congratulated for this.

The reason I ask is when both clubs part way, will McPhee continue with Sandy or coach the Saints side

Not sure, depends if Saints still want him in their academy I guess. Whoever can offer him more $$$ probably get him!

Agree with this.. Mark Williams has to be the logical choice.. Kingsley may eventually be a great coach, but it's too big a risk to take with the situation we are in.. Let him further his apprenticeship under Choco and he will get his chance eventually.. My worry for someone like Kingsley getting the job, is in the worst case scenario we drop our first 2 games next year. Is he capable of handling the media pressure that will come with that so early into the job? In my opinion Choco getting it should be a no brainer, and if it takes us having to give 4 years to sign him up, so be it..

Thunda, you asked me once why I thought Kingsley shouldn't be coach. And youv explained why Kingsley would be a good coach. But you don't really answer the question of weather you think he would be a better option than Williams? I'm not trying to be abrasive but I just want to know would you rather have Kingsley as our head coach right now for season 2014 and onwards or Williams, and what would be your reasoning behind it. It does look like its down to them.

I'd rather Williams right now, but if for some reason he decides all sudden he doesn't want th job then Kingsley or McPhee would be my next choice.

I've been on the Choco 'bandwagon' all along, think he is what we need. But don't think it's end of world if we end up with one those other two.

Given McPhee background in development I would have thought he would be a very good choice for us as we are starting to bring through a whole new team at the moment and are in a development and rebuilding phase.

There also seems to be strange feeling out there that being a AFL Assistant is a step up from coaching in your own right at State League level I struggle to understand why this is considered a step up.

Personally I think that of the candidates left I like McPhee.

McPhee was a bit of a nobody when he got the Claremont Colts job. When Claremont imploded under Roger Kerr (Daniel's dad) no one imagined they'd appoint the under-19s coach to the senior job. But they did, and they won premierships. He might no be the rank outsider that people imagine, he clearly has form for interviewing well and coming from the back of the field.
