good point...but as a batsman, sachin is in another category...he has dominated australia home and away, kallis did not conquer australia in australia the way sachin has

plus, sachin has done it for 20 year plus...in addition to his 14,000 odd thousand ODI runs and 47 ODI tonnes...as a batsman, its Sachin without hesitation

but yes as a cricketer, the all round game of Kallis is unbelievable and he is one of the greatest cricketers I've been lucky enough to see

Yep, I do agree as a batsman Sachin is better.

Boucher's time has come to retire surely? Great gloveman but has been hopeless of late.

Do they have anyone else to do it though?

AB is their second best batsman, and has been dicked around the order his whole career, so surely they wouldn't make him do it again.

Nah they couldn't. Let him concentrate on his batting imo. Anyway, would be good enough to be able to do it full time while still averaging around 50 with the bat?

both Sachin & Kallis appear to be getting better with age...cant see why they both couldnt play another 2 years or so of test cricket...india are due here next summer so at least we'll get the chance to see Sachin again one more time here

as for the keeping position, i dont think they would want to burden de villiers with the gloves given how good a batsman he now is, but i dont know if there's anyone else in first class cricket etc banging down the door for selectio

Watching a ten sport stream and apparently 693 between India and Pakistan in 2003 is the world record for the most runs scored in an ODI match. Someone must have forgotten the 434 game.

One of the all time greats. His records stacks up with Sobers who is considered one of the top 5 cricketers of all time. And at age 35 he doesn't look like slowing down!!

If we're going purely on Test record (Sobers' First Class record is better), I'd put Kallis ahead. For some who bowled so much (22.3 overs per innings), Sobers wasn't exactly lethal with the ball (one wicket per 91.9 balls).

Whose next in line? Heino Kuhn?

EDIT: Didn't see TimeIsRunningOut's post.

very crucial partnership here...and very costly for india...at the end of the test we may look back on this past hour or so as the decisive partnership of the match

362 runs now and counting....this looks to be a very good score already, would be so frustrating for india at the moment

Amazing that they're still batting given what happened early in the morning. Top stuff from Kallis, will go along way to getting the right result for South Africa.

Agree Sean, love listening to Haysman.

Well batted to Kallis, fantastic knock.

362 is a good score from South Africa considering where they were.

Lets hope Sehwag can get going like he hasn't been able to so far in this series.

agreed mate, sehwag is certainly due to do his thing and hopefully he gets amongst it today

The saffer women seem to turn up in their bikinis most of the time.

What IS it with the women over there...seem to be a nation of cricket loving supermodels.

The off field talent on display in these South African Boxing Day/NY tests is always a treat for the eyes... :thumbsu:

Briefly looking at the stats, this bloke is probably the next keeper in line. Experienced, good first class record and a handy 268 @ 44.66 in the current SA domestic season.

Impressed with his first class record. Sure it's not the greatest competition and the grounds are small, but those pitches are difficult to bat on.

Seems to have genuine claims.
