Broad leading your BnF is all we need to know. Role players batting above has been a consistent theme the past few years, but they aren’t going to improve and they look far worse in a poorer team. We’ve seen it already.

Had a good run, but they are done.

Not sure you’ve been watching Richmond games. Broad has been a gun this year and would quite comfortably be Carlton’s second best backman behind Weitering.

Broad would have been leading our bnf before he was injured. Baker is a gun who has been thrown forward back and in the midfield plugging holes all season. Lambert is a match winner when fit. Remember the prelim last year or were you on holidays? Graham always steps up when Cotchin doesn't play but plays a selfless defensive role when he has to and does it well. He'll get let off the chain eventually. RCD is a level above vfl just has to find his feet at top level and he will. Dow, Ralphsmith and Martyn are all promising midfield prospects and Ryan has been exceptional at vfl level for a first year ruck. Mansell looks a likely type.

Add to that we have the strongest draft hand in the comp to either take to the draft or probably trade in a couple best 22 players and still have a pretty good draft hand...... and arguably the best coach.

I know it's a hard concept to grasp for Carlton fans but when you're in the middle of a dynasty it's hard to pump games into the kids or let role players try be more than just that. We haven't traded anyone in for 5 years and have hit the draft every year so of course there's going to be some quality kids waiting for their turn. Just have to get the juggling act right between taking responsibility off the senior players and giving it to the youngsters. A shocking injury run over the past 6 weeks or so has only made things harder. A full pre season and tweaked game plan to accommodate for the changes and we'll be back up there.

The whole 'Richmond are done' line is one coming from a place of hope rather than reality.

I think Richmond are a chance to turn this around but at the end of the day winning a premiership is hard work and it’s highly likely that this iteration of Richmond never wins a premiership again.

2021 off-season will be extremely important as Richmond have yet to really try to top up with senior players outside of signing T.Lynch.

But again, a limited player winning the Tigs BnF indicates the general decline of their squad.

Akin to Teague, another dour mid-sized defender, winning ours in 2004.

Does not bode well.

I don’t think you’ve watched him play this year he’s gone to another level.

Has genuinely been a gun intercept player who uses the ball very well whilst also having to play taller than usual due to Astbury being injured for part of the year.

Richmond showed you can do well with a few top liners, but the bulk of your squad is made of role players and guys who’d be on the fringe at most clubs.

That is perfectly fine when your guns are firing, do most of the heavy lifting and the players around them fold into their form.

At worst that is what we’d be aiming for, and we’d be able to carry a decent number of average players so long as Walsh, Weitering and McKay were playing well and having a major influence on games.

A lot of the sentiment re: leadership and club culture reminds me of a lot of Hawks supporters post 2016. It only gets you so far.
100% agree regarding the importance of leadership. The President, CEO, Captain and Coach have played crucial roles at driving success on and off the field. If these four ain’t firing, it doesn’t matter how many top draft picks, or big money free agents you acquire.

We will have to wait and see what the next phase at the RFC looks like, but I’d back them to get to the top over other middle of the road teams that are bereft of leadership in these key positions.

Sydney, Geelong, Hawthorn, West Coast and Richmond have all had success recently that has coincided with great leadership.

The success of lesser rated players (by opposition supporters in particular) to achieve three flags is testament to the success of the clubs success.

Unbelievable to think that we haven’t had a top ten pick since the 2012 draft. Just employ the right people and back them in to do their jobs.

Back on topic though, guys like Bolton have thrived in this system. Looked highly talented but slightly flakey early, and now we are talking about him being a real shining light. At other clubs I’m not sure we would have seen this level of development.

Overstating it in a big way.

Taken on more responsibility sure, but hasn’t moved beyond a B-grader.

With so many of the tigers senior core contracts coming up and likely retirements/drop in value of next contracts and potential trading out of certain fringe 22 players freeing up plenty of cap space I just dont understand why this guy hasn’t signed yet??
Has to seriously be considering other offers.

No doubt! I do think Cerra to Richmond and Bolton to Freo will eventuate. Cerra is certainly not going to Carlton, you can rule that out. Realistically, only Freo can broker a trade for Bolton and only Richmond can broker a trade for Cerra.

It's how Ralph Carr rolls. He makes sure his clients consider all offers.

Carr is already on record saying he thinks he'll stay. Cant see that having changed.

Stated at the start of the year he wouldnt sign until late in the season. Carr also seems recommend this, not sure no signing yet means anything at all.

I am not sure about Cerra to Carlton either but do you have inside info mate ?

Last I heard, the club is still pretty keen on getting him across ?

Could see Hawthorn being a suitor as well, esp if they decide to part ways with Tom Mitchell and that massive contract he has.

Hey mate, I’m purely speculative but there were a few choice words between he and Cripps. Definitely seemed like he was chirping up quite a bit, even gave him a little punch. Might be reading into it too far but there have been actual ITK’s in varied threads speculating on him going to Richmond.

I don’t think we can facilitate a trade less we lose Fisher (stand alone) or SPS + something their way. Richmond could easily facilitate it, so that adds fuel to the fire IMO.

End of the day, I don’t know for sure and would love him in Navy Blue - but people who know more than I do have suggested he ends up a tiger.

Cant see anyway for the tame tigers to keep this bloke.
Won't pay him what he deserves and are now a rabble ,with further to fall.
Seriously why would he hang around??
He desperately needs some bigger bodies around him to help him leverage his own offensive ability. Put Greenwood/Lyons/Wines around him, play him purely on ball, and watch him become the best clearance player in the AFL.

How many coaches votes has he been awarded this year?

edit:
He received 5 votes as the 3rd best player on the ground in round 7 against the dogs.

not considered in the best 5 players on the ground by either coach in any other games this year.

He is managed by Carr and this is straight out of his play book. Remember Dusty went up and toured GWS and then came back with his tail between his legs. I don't have the history to hand but I wouldn't be surprised if all of Carr's players only ever signed at the end of the season.
