Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

And lets just hope Port learnt from letting Stevens go for nothing !

Yes, what we learnt was, that letting a major part of our finals failures the previous 2 years go, after he held us over the barrel for a trade to Collingwood late in trade week for 2 mars bars and a roll of dunny paper, to Carlton, who were not in any way a threat to us like Collingwood were, wins you a Premiership......

Not sure that is a your best bet to hope for. Make a good enough offer, you get a very good player on his day, and your midfield looks very dangerous. Lets hope it happens smoothly.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Choco also said the power had a chance to win the GF in 07

What an idiot Choco is thinking that when his team made the GF that they could win it....

Just as Clarkson must be an idiot for thinking you guys could make the finals still in round 22......

;)

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Now the question is will we give up Ladson for him? I'd hope not, but then again I don't like seeing any players (except the usual targets) leaving.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

What Choco wants is a lot different to what Choco will get. He's not exactly in a position of power here.

EDIT: Pun not intended

Think again, as suggested by a fellow Port supporter on the Port board, if all Hawthorn are going to do is offer a shitty trade which would gift them a premiership, we can just do a '**** you deal' and trade Shaun for pick #11 to the Dees so we don't get nothing for him in the PSD ;)

Pick 9 is better than pick 11. And again, if that so happens to be the case, Williams does get less than he wants.

Why would melbourne give up pick 11? when they can get him for nothing?

But Shaun might say I will go for free if you won't let me go to Hawk.

Yeah, except that was when Port were contenders, and didn't want to strengthen another contender.

It won't matter to Port if the Hawks are strong, as Port are in a different stage right now; if not quite rebuilding, they're close to it.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

it will take more then pick 9.

i know i shouldn't be that excited... but it feels so good having him choose us... for less money... over the stupid scum of football

Thats just it- you actually can't do a stuff you deal... the player has to agree to the trade. If he didn't, then there would be no threat of walking into a pre season draft now would there? Port would have to convince SB to go to Melbourne before they could do that. Ports power :))) is very limited here and they have to rely on the good graces of everyone involved. What would be the sense in losing out on pick 9 only to take pick 11 anyway? pick 9= top ten draft pick... 1 of 2 you could have...

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

thankfully you're not in charge at port. can you imagine what port's stakeholders would say if you traded burger to the dees for pick 11 when pick 9 was one the table?

These petty dick-size contests do not happen, as much as you might wish it. This is business and they will take the best deal on offer. Pride does not figure in the decision.

Again i reiterate why would melbourne give up pick 11? If they are going get him in the PSD anyway

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Besides all that i don't MFC is a charity organisation why would they part with 11? when they can get him for free? doesn't make any sense

Port can say to Melb that the Hawks are offering a deal they're willing to accept for Burgoyne, however they would rather trade him to Melbourne for #11.

If Melbourne say they'll take him in the PSD, then we'll counter by saying we'll accept the Hawks offer for Burgoyne then.

Obviously this is not an ideal situation, but if the Hawks are telling Port they WILL play the hardball, Port can say "**** off" and just take #11.

Furthermore, Melbourne have just traded McClean (younger than Burgoyne) for the no.11 pick. Why would they then use this pick for trading Burgoyne? They are re-building....they are going for kids like we did a few years back.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

I'd be surprised if you have to throw in a player on top of pick 9......
You guys have all the power..He's out of contract and has nominated
your club........
Have you looked at this way.....you guys are lucky to have pick 9, what
a lovely present/bonus for getting injuries and having a sh1te year.....it will most likely mean you land Burgoyne....

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

I hope the trade gets done smoothly by the end of the second day of trade week with both parties feeling they have been ripped off slightly.

Depends. Choco said 9 wouldn't be enough.

I agree on your second part, getting Junior Burger is sensational.

Given that Melbourne were 'shocked' at the salary he was asking from them... i dont think they would give two hoots about him... They're more likely to say 'fine, go trade him to the hawks.' Think rationally- why was Burgoyne asking 750k from Melbourne and Essendon, but prepared to play for less with us?

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Yes i have to agree, Hawthorn hold all of the cards in this deal. I think pick 9 in the last uncompromised draft is a fair deal. Port won't want to loose out on a vice captain and let Burgoyne walk for free like Stevens did. Port are just trying to get more than what it's worth out of the deal and that's understandable, but when Burgoyne nominated Hawthorn, who has to highest pick out of Essendon and Melbourne ( because Melbourne won't give up 1 or 2 for Burgoyne) it's created a monopoly for the Hawks.

I think Pelchin will only offer number 9 so then we can move onto other scenarios for a shot at Gibson or perhaps another high profile player. We have the youngest list in the AFL so there's no real need to add another draft pick when we are in a premiership window. Definitely a step in the right direction for the Hawks by adding Burgoyne if it all eventuates.

Idea! Maybe we could just shave P.Burgoyne's head and send him over instead?? :D
