**** no.

can we stop taking away the enjoyment of others because a small minority can't handle their piss.

also i think people are probably deluded if they think we are living in more violent times than in the past. from chatting with oldies (i'm talking 40+ in age) most tend to think that the conditions in which people are going out now is pretty much the same as in their prime time.

personally i don't understand why people go out looking for trouble. i'm out to have a good time, hack around on the dance floor, get blind, and try and put my end away when i can. but it's a bit naive to think that no one going out is looking for trouble. unfortunately that is just not the way of the world.

I used to think the same way as you and as long as you're not stupid you're pretty unlikely to have any trouble, but these days i'm thinking does someone really need to drink post 2am? Not really.

I resemble this remark. Are you implying that I'm not in my prime? You're quite right, BTW.

Turn off the booze in all clubs at 2 A.M. Much better to have a horde of drunks on the streets all at the one time, looking for more booze, or as much trouble as they can manufacture. I guarantee there will be no havoc wrought. I'm sure the neighbours of such premises will be fiercely in favour of this.

can't see any positives in this.

a heap of people would lose their jobs/have their hours cut. a heap of businesses would suffer/go broke. taxis wouldn't cope from 2-3am but would be completely dead after that.

people would be stuck en masse on the streets. just not a good idea at all.

Even better why don't we just fit everyone with electro-shock devices that deal out severe and just punishment to anyone who is not in bed by midnight?

At least then the streets will be safe.

Or better still, just turn the world into a giant prison...

This was the case when living in Greater Mancunia. Pubs closed at 11pm and the local chippys were turned into bloodhouses. Clubs closed at 2pm with resulting violence in the subsequent hours.

'Tasers' is a more succinct description. If you are, quite rightly, trying to warn about a potential '1984' scenario, you're too late.

They never had violence when we had the six o'çlock swill skilts.

It was that evil bastard Henry Bolte that started all this mayhem.

Bars and other venues shouldn't be barred from serving booze after 2am. Some people just need to take more responsibility for themselves (and a lesser extent, the people they're with). If everyone did that, and most do, there would be no f***ing problem. The bar I work at usually only gets super-busy after 1am on Fri/Sat (when most other bars on Sydney Rd are closing) and it's that two-hour period from 1 til close that people in general are at their most objectionable, more than likely because they've come from a venue up the road that was closing and they've decided to scull one or two quick 'last drinks' (to make up for 'lost' drinking time spent walking to the next place, I guess) before moving on down the street and that catch up to them real quick afterwards.

Nup.

Stopping shots after midnight is something they do in Perth, so I don't know if this works in other states.

Some people will have as many shots as they can before midnight, whereas others are responsible and could have a shot every two hours and not resort to fighting or spewing on the floor. If alcohol was banned outright after 2am, you'd imagine that culture would just harden... the idiots would drink even more.

Plus, when I go out, I usually start curbing it around 2am. You don't go that hard, the night is winding down, and you know you'll be in a taxi by 3am. I'm not saying all responsible drinkers do this, but it's just an example of responsible drunks (contradiction in terms? probs aye mate) not needing their hands held.

The members of society who are unsociable, unlawful, and unethical will mostly do so regardless of cut off times. They won't curb their drinking because the law says they have to. It'll probably do the adverse. Leave it as is, and spend some money on rehab and jail for these king-hit happy pricks.

I've drunk in many a hard rock and heavy metal establishment in many countries over the years and I have seen very little (if any) violence in these places. I've also been in electro/techno/hardhouse-cranking nightclubs where king hits rule and pubs that employ those 'Top 40' cover bands where people can pop the collars on their pink polo shirts and go glass each other.

This speaks volumes to me. Despite the 'I'll rip your throat out and shit a pentagram down your neck' image, heavy metal fans just want to rock out. And drink.

The answer is clear, people.

Trouble is you impose a closing time you just encourage people to start earlier and go harder.

If anything should be encouraging people to drink more. When you are proper smashed the last thing you feel like doing, or are capable of doing is participating in violence....

Ooh, strongly disagree with your comment, Happy. The only times I've seen big fights or brawls is when plenty of liquor has been consumed. When some people are 'proper smashed' I'd say they're more likely to lash out at someone (even a mate) for no good damn reason at all.
