Just a bit of a thought bubble here. Geelong are losing membership numbers similar to when The Western Bulldogs were called Footscray.
Footscray had the vision to change their name to encompass the whole Western suburbs, and it worked.
Geelong the town , won't be big enough to support a team in the future, and changing their name would encorporate the elderly retirees of Queenscliff plus cashed up tradies from Tourqay and Ocean Grove.
It would also mean less charity is needed by the club.
The flathead fish is a common delicacy in the area so it is a no brainer to me to use it as the mascot. Besides that, cats do not like water and the cat name makes no logical sense unless the club can train cats to swim/ surf.
I'd be interested in everbodies thoughts on this idea.
