Analysis Should we be pursuing a secondary market post-Hobart? If yes, then where?

It’s one thing having a secondary market, and completely another to hand a home game to the opposition, thus compromising our ability to get a result.

Personally I don't think we need a secondary market. How much has the population expanded in Melbourne, and isn't it expected to grow by another 1.5m in the next 15 years?

Be worth watching, and bring the effort to those suburbs, and the club can get some of those new arrivals.

I'm around a lot of new arrivals both through work and the kids' school, the Tigers have absolutely cleaned up by being worth watching.

On a side note, the AFL are doing a pathetic job of marketing to new Melbournians, they are getting monstered by soccer and basketball at the primary school level.
I tell you, who would have been handy winning over those kids, Harley Reid!!

Ah that GC win. Anyone who celebrated it on here and talked about winning culture, please provide me with your home address so I can come over and kick you in the balls.

Get a north melbourne kangaroos stuffed toy mascot into every immigrant child's hands as they come through the airport. It worked on me
Why not, and get in the schools as well.

There's a lot of schools where kids are yet to choose a team and their parents don't have one either.

We're in the Saints zone and they get at the kids attending Auskick but we need to be in the schools encouraging these kids into Auskick (with their brand new NMFC toy mascot)!

A new arrival family I know have settled in North Melbourne. Their youngest at one of the local primary schools hasn't chosen a team. I keep pushing us, he says his classmates say North are rubbish and don't pick them. That's at a school in our heartland! They play soccer at lunchtime. I'll keep pushing but that doesn't help!

Club needs to get in there more often!!

This is a massive part of it, North have binned years of new supporters by being so poor on-field.

From what I have seen, kids like to go for the team that just won the premiership (where they don't have a family who are influencing them to their team).

Better yet get Ricky Ponting wearing a North Jumper with Virat kolli and Sachin Tendulkar at a North game with both wearing a North jumper watch how much support we get then

The biggest immigration demographic into Melbourne is from India.

If only we had a high profile instantly recognisable face that would be able to teach these new immigrants about the game of Aussie Rules football.

such a pity that there is no such person with any affiliation with the club.

My sister teaches at a primary school in the northern suburbs which is heavily multicultural. Many of the kids were either born overseas or their parents are fairly new arrivals.
Aussie Rules has no presence at the school. Not a single kid kicking the footy at lunchtime or anything. So a few of the teachers, including my sister, are attempting to turn around this desperate state of affairs. They started by organising a few teams to play other schools in AFL 9’s. The early training sessions were described by my sister as being ‘tragic… couldn’t believe most of the kids had never kicked a footy before’.

The teams were absolutely hammered in every game but showed improvement and in a surprising twist a good number of the kids wanted to organise regular training sessions and games afterwards. Auskick is now also on the agenda.

A few of the classes have been to the Huddle which they really enjoyed. This seemed to spark some of the initial interest in footy from the kids that had no interest before.

The AFL seems to be just sitting on its hands.

Introduce them to this. Indoor footy.

Fast, no tackling, all skills and positioning. 5 secs to get rid of the ball, 5m is furthest you can run. Kids have a lot of fun.

In and out 4x8min qtrs. Just need runners, a matching top, enter a team and away you go. (and a few dollars to cover fees)
