Analysis Should we be pursuing a secondary market post-Hobart? If yes, then where?

15000 at Carlton would make a lot more money for the club than 15000 at docklands.
Would it? Maybe before the purchase of the stadium when clubs needed minimum of 22k attendance to break even. Now that its completely AFL owned im sure they profit quite well from it. Its the atmosphere that sucks when theres 15k people there

I love WA. Whats our membership numbers for people who live there? 5%? 10%? More? The support we have when we play there is awesome. 1 or 2 games sold will be fine by me.
1 or 2 games ok against the Eagles and Dockers so if the reports are right that’s going to be 2 x $1 million =$2 million a year that’s means we have 9 games at Marvel which means we would need to fill the ground with 30K to 45k to make $$$$ and considering our support base which is made up of people that refuse to attend with there Bull💩excuses we need that to change.
If I was the club I’d be approaching the AFL and trying to get home games at the following times .
1: 8pm Friday nights on Foxtel as the 2nd game of the Double Header.
2: 2:30pm/3pm Saturday on Foxtel as part of the new super Saturday line up.
3:6pm Sunday night as part of either Foxtel or Channel 7 line.
If supporters say we can’t get to these games well you’re not coming to games at 1:10pm,1:40pm,4:40pm or 7:10pm games either.
So it’s up to the Board starting thinking straight for this club and not for the minority of Woke people at our club and as Supporters if you love this club start F:cking attending games or 2 games in WA will be 11 as the relocated Kangaroos and the 3rd fullime WA side.

You dont need 35k to profit. Its way way way less than that. Thats prior to the afl owning the stadium

If you can find a Victorian region willing to pay the club a million dollars to play a game at their local oval, then I'm sure the club would love to hear about it.

There was a Mayor from the North of Melbourne who was willing to build a boutique stadium for the club, but yeah the internet loonies on here laughed it down and the club admin never got back to them.

Oh well, now we get to enjoy other clubs buying games and 4 points off us on the other side of the country.

You were doing so well with a powerful argument until you threw "woke" in there for no apparent reason. What has woke got to do with this conversation? Not everything is a culture war.

Your numbers and facts are loose here. It wasn't so much needing 22k to profit historically, it was needing 22k to avoid having to write out a cheque to Ian Collins for $100,000 of losses. Once the AFL acquired the stadium, that didn't necessarily turn 22k into a profit position, it just meant we were no longer required to pump up the superannuation fund owners every time we played there. As for today's situation, it is the case that a crowd in excess of 35k is a really successful day for the balance sheet. Anything between 15k and 25k is nickels and dimes.

You are arguing margins of profit. Im strictly talking red and black.

Yes that's what I'm saying. In context of whether we can play 11 home games in Melbourne, it's not just about red and black for those games. To make up the $2.5 million Tasmanian shortfall, we would need virtually every one of the 11 games to be over 30k. Simply making a profit on each game isn't going to replace Tasmania.

I wanna see the club survive so selling a couple of games to WA to cover the shortfalls is fine by me. I’d like the club and AFL to be strategic about it. Round 1, immediately post bye or last round of the year, where travel wont hurt too much

Would be interesting to see a poll to the members on the preference between 2 home games in Perth and 9 in Melbourne. Or 4 home games in Bendigo and 7 in Melbourne. Assuming we get 1 mill per game in Perth and 500k per game in Bendigo.

We've managed to do well out of building markets (theoretically) for the AFL before a new team comes into that space.

Sydney/Camberra - GWS

Gold Coast

Tassie

I suspect a third WA team will be the AFL's next long term play, let's do the same there if the $$$ stack up.

I’d have to see the maths, but is generally the way. Moot point anyway, we are locked in at docklands.

There is no making $500k x4 in Bendigo. Who do you think is writing that cheque?

The Calder will be sold for housing, it’ll be completely surrounded by houses soon. Wasn’t long ago that sydenham, taylors lakes and the rest of those joints was baron land covered in thistles.
It’s actually nuts how many houses have gone up along it already. Feels like Calder park is in the suburbs.
