If its true what SEN are reporting, what a friggin joke.
Afl to suspend Goodwin 4 games and $20,000 fine, even though according to betshop accounts he only profited aprox $7100.

Wonder what the other 3 alleged players will cop from the AFL.

Good.
Hopefully that will deter others from making the same idiotic mistake.

You've got to remember that $20,000 isn't really alot of money, when your are earning the amount some of the players are being payed.
To the average person it is probably 1/3 of their yearly wage, but to the likes of Goodwin,it would be lucky if it is 4 weeks pay.

I must admit I recently placed a $11,000 bet on a Cricket match and to some its OK, to some it isnt. It just all depends on your income etc etc.

So your telling me Simon Goodwin could place xxx amount of dollars on a soccer match? and he cant put 1 cent on an AFL match? This is my opinion only but I reckon AFL betting is good, so long as your team isnt involved. Anytime we can get more money betting on our game especially with a betting exchange such as Betfair, the better it is for our game. In fact I think internationally betting is the only way to promote our game, as stupid as it sounds. Look at sports betting on Betfair for sports such as : Tennis, Soccer, Cricket, Rugby Union, NBA just too name a few. I believe with the AFL time zones, its a chance for us to push further our brand. What else can Europeans bet on when its early Sunday Morning over there?

How does the AFL now have a leg to stand on regarding the protection they are giving those players who have tested positive for drugs ???

Are we seriously asked to believe that one is worse than the other for the integrity of the competition ?.

They should all be outed and cop the punishement. Crazy state of affairs.

"Yeah...you heard me right, transfer $20,000 from my TAB account to the AFL"

So Dean Brogan can punch someone in the face and pretty much get off scot-free, when a bloke wants to have a bet on a game - not involving his team - he gets a 20k fine and 4 games?? How does that work? Punching someone in the face is far worse than having a bet.

So should insider trading be allowed?

If you've paid any attention to the Brogan situation, the PAFC fined Brogan the max $5000 for the Dale Mortimer incident, and Brogan has been going to court regarding the accused doctor incident.

Lucky he wasn't booted out for a year.

Very lucky boy. Thought they would go tougher than a slap on the wrist. There can be no betting on AFL games regardless of whether it is your team. If Goodwin had $10,000 on Dogs to win flag at $10/1, how would he play against them during the season both times??

Betting is a disgrace. I would have given him a year. Very lucky schmuck!

What's the over-under on how many days of bets it'll take for him to make it back? If it's a week I'd take the under.

It's a pretty big hit for the crime imo.

Wonder what Daniel Ward will get then considering he actually bet on games involving his own team.

!

Irrelevant.

Are you suggesting they punish players based on hypothetical situations?

There's nothing in Dean's contract that says it is explicitly against the rules to punch fat yoboos in the face - he broke no AFL rule or terms of his contract.

In most countries in the world, professional sportsmen betting on their own sport would result in serious repurcussions. Goodwin is copping the equivalent of the ban he could expect for a high bump.

Not tough enough if you want to send a message to players to avoid gambling on AFL games.
