Injury Siposs to have exploratory surgery

I went to the promo and had a long talk with Siposs. He's a really nice young guy. He said he should be back around mid season and was disappointed with the timing. He certainly hasn't given up on the dream and looks focussed. He said he's going to have huge quads and no upper body strength as he's still working as hard as he can to keep up all the fitness he got up. It's always good to meet the players at these things as you can forget these are young guys trying to live out their dreams as AFL players.

So much has to go right just to get a starting spot then you have to keep it. Good luck to him, he deserves a break. Markworth is probably in a similar place, said his ankle was a bad roll with bone bruising but at least it's a short lay off unlike Siposs. I spoke to a few of the young guys too. Joe Baker- Thomas was saying he trains, naps then gets up, eats and goes back to bed for more sleep. Brenton Payne said the same was happening to him and that the work load was a real eye opener.

It's really competitive for spots with all the kids. I asked Josh Saunders if he enjoyed the NZ junket and he said he was really disappointed that he missed a training session. I also asked if he wanted to move into the midfield and he said they were still looking at him forward. He said he's just really happy to have a spot where ever it is. I got the feeling that he thought the training sessions are opportunities to earn a place and the NZ trip was a lost chance.

Savage said he's a backman from now on, Newness said he will play some more wing this season but may be similar to last year working predominantly out of the backbone and getting runs on the ball from there.

Spencer, Lee and Memberey all competing for spots and all seem to be aware of the competition with each other. Schnides was in good form and Gilbert said he thinks Adam will play round one and I suggested he and Saad will be double checking when they are walking across the car park.

Hickey and Gilbert said they will be ready to roll for NAB and round one of the proper season. Jack Steven said he peaked early last year and then after injury he never got going. This year he's ramping up to the season and is managing his body to get through the full season.

There was a lot of guys sporting massive surgery scars, who ever operates on them looks like they use kitchen implements. Lee has scars from armpit to shoulders, Geary has a huge one on the elbow, Spencer had a nice wrist scar and they are the ones you see. It's a pretty tough game.

I don't know about 'kitchen implements'...

I have a massive (though faded) purple bastard running from just above my arse, across my hip and down to mid thigh.

Had an absolutley top surgeon do the job.

I like Sippos, and I think he is genuinely liked by the playing group. His slide to the bottom of the St Kilda 'required' list should not be a surprise though. He has played 28 games to date and is touted as a good contested mark and a great long kick. But lets be brutally honest he really hasn't shown a lot through those 28 games. There have also been questions over his running ability, and going into his fifth year, it doesn't seem like he has done enough to address that. He should be proud of what he has achieved...28 games in an elite sporting environment is no mean feat...but the AFL has proven many times that if you can't find consistent improvement, you quickly get spat out of the system.

Given that the Saints will have to clear out at least three places to accommodate the 2015 draft Sipposs is facing an uphill battle. The six players most at risk of being psuhed off the St Kilda list in my opinion are, in order of most likely to go to least likely to go:

1. Aaryn Sippos
2. Tom Simpkin
3. Adam Schneider
4. Farren Ray
5. Sam Gilbert
6. Sam Fisher

I wouldn't think ray, gilbert or fisher, would be candidates to be delisted, they could have excellent seasons, barring injury, I think they could easy go around again expecially fisher. I agree with siposs schneider and simkin. fisher is a real asset when injury free to the back line, as is gilbert, not all the young kids will make it at the end of year.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to any of those players. I am a really big fan of Gilbert and Fisher and especially Schneider, who I think has a really astute football brain. I have assumed that the club will cut 3 every year, and by insinuation I believe Fisher and Gilbert will go around again. But unless someone else slides due to homesickness, ill disciplne, form or injury I think they will be in the scope in 2016.

Unless pushed and no other clubs are interested, a la CJ, I certainly don't see Farren retiring at the end of this year and despite the talk, I'm also not expecting Dempster to either. Gilbo would want to get out on the park this year though and Chips will also want to play for most of the season.

While we are stating the obvious that Sippo is facing an almighty battle, it doesn't mean we are not hopeful he can turn it around. I think he barracked for the Saints as a junior and it would be a great story if he can turn it around from here, or if the stars align so that he gets another year on the list

Understatement here. Massive Saints supporter and I think his family is well known amongst club people.

Yeah but not right reasons!

If he doesn't cement himself in team by end of year (when he gets back), I'd doubt he would be on main list next year.

But, not against giving him a rookie spot in this scenario.

I know there was criticism of his defensive efforts when played in AFL last year, but showed a bit IMO.

Good point krk004
Given how Lee went after shoulder reco's I have my doubts on Sippo being able to compete above his head even in the latter stages of 2015.
Fingers crossed for him but a Rookie spot in 2016 likely outcome IMO.

Nup, I don't see it. If he's not on the main list, he's not going to be on the rookie list.

The best hope Sippa has, short of a miracle second half of the season, is to be either traded or picked up as a delisted FA for free by another club.

He is now behind 3 or even 4 other players for the role he plays (Membrey, Murdoch, Markworth for starters), and there'd be even questions about whether that role really exists these days anyway. 3rd talls are becoming more of your +190cm types (ie, Gunston), and all those guys are under that. The advantage the others have over Siposs is that they can slip into the midfield, and potentially be quite damaging.

However, there MAY be some other club that doesn't have that plethora of that type, and who still see a place for it in the modern game.

I think the father has quitened down a bit nowadays very big saints supporters apparently, he had potential but I think has missed the bus, when he started to have a go he had terrible run with injuries, I think now to late. I think dempster has two more years, and agree gilbert would have to stay on the park.
Schneider could stay at the club in a off field position, and fisher I hope has three more years in him. a top side could possibly take a
gamble on sipposs.

i don't think he's that bad. i haven't heard him get on the wrong side of the club yet

just a bit protective of his son that's all

he's obviously very pro arryn (which is perfectly fine and understandable) and you are obviously very anti arryn, so its obviously going to cause conflict

I have heard there's a bit more to it than that, his oldman was told to stop going to training and annoying any club person that would talk to him about Arryns' prospects, not doing his son any favours.
