I really don't see why he won't transition well into a midfielder (as he already did at regular occasions in the Coates league this year). He isn't a NWM type who is all class, and has very limited contested game. Travaglia has shown he can win contested footy, clearances and be a strong tackler. He looks like a scrapper who gets his hands dirty. With his questionable kicking, he actually seems more suited to midfield than half back in the long run.

Agree with this. He seems to have all the traits to become a mid in theory. Strong contested game, can run all day. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him train with the mids from day 1 and develop their straight away. If they have identified that as his future position may as well do it straight away.

Loved his Metro v Country game. Was the first time I'd really taken notice. I'm happy with him and the big Scandinavian testosterone overload. Probably would have Reid myself but happy regardless. Realistically his run suits Lyon more.
They were both chances to go before our picks, especially Tauru. Neither would've got much past our selections if we'd bypassed them. I think picks 7/8, (9/10 if you like) were just about a true reflection of their ability in a strong pool. I don't feel like we've paid over for them or that either was a steal.

Worst case we have a Jimmy Webster replacement.
Best case a new BJ.

I've been trying to wrap my head around this seIection, but I think the thing that Travaglia has that sets him apart, and I think it is a thing that that Wilson also has, is toughness and endeavour. He really pushes himself from contest to contest, and I reckon if he continues to bring that, he'll be a solid, maybe even better than solid AFL footballer. It is very interesting that we selected him above Tauru, who by the eye seems to have more natural talent/ a higher ceiling.
There was a comment on the trade thread about a month ago, from someone that knew Tobies skill set very well...there opinion was Absolute GUN...will not be disappointed...happy days🥰

Pretty happy with that. Can’t wait to see him and Wilson running around together.
Good comparison, Remboy. He's a replica of Darcy. RTB loves him and I reckon he had a fair bit to do with Tobie's selection.

Let me put to rest the misconception that he's just another half-back flanker. Tobie is an emerging midfielder. He can play inside or outside and has the burst of speed to get away from stoppages.

No midfield depth? Ha! Watch Pou, Wilson, Garcia, Hill, Wood and Tobie go hard on the outside, while Steele, Jones, MacCrae, Windhager, Clark and Dow on the inside, will be working hard to get it to them. Not a bad lineup.

It was no coincidence that we won six of our last eight when our best midfielders were fit and in form. I'm excited!

Just went and had a watch of his game against Vic Metro and I'm sold on him now. Looks super explosive and marshalled the backline extremely well. Also took some fantastic marks with the game on the line. We've definitely got a good one here, especially if he's bought into Ross' vision.
Side note - that 50 paid against him at the end is just about the worst I've ever seen. If that happened in an AFL match the umpire would be hung, drawn and quartered before you could blink.

This is the game

OK those videos have satisfied my query on his kicking. Looks good enough. Cheers.

Phillipou had 15 contested possessions against Adelaide. Please don't stereotype him as an outsider.
( So far Dow hasn't come near that. It was just a dream when he was first drafted ).

Going back to look at Will Day highlights from his draft year. You can see the pretty close resemblance. Day is a better kick and has grown another 4cm since then. Travaglia probably the more attacking aggressive rebounder. If he can get even close to Day, then beauty.
Agreed, I really hope that we don't stick him on a wing as 'midfielder' and actually give him some proper time on the ball.

He has the first instinct to drive his legs out of the stoppage that is essential to being a mid. He is also a great tackler, something Will Day was not at the same stage.
