So who won trade week!?

I'll give you a description of James Aish that is more accurate...

He is still only 19 years old and has already finished top-10 in Brisbane's 2014 Best and Fairest, and fourth in Rising Star. He wasn't happy this year though, but I expect his immense skill and ability to become more apparent now that he is at Collingwood.

He has vision, composure and a true football brain. He is elite on both sides and makes it easy for forwards by weighting the ball perfectly by foot, and thinks quickly through tight situations. He holds the ball as long as he can, and waits for the right option to arrive. When it doesn't, he thinks quick to work out what to do next.

He barely misses a kick, and he's dangerous around goal because it only takes him one chance to make opposition pay. Teammates get the ball to him because they know he isn't going to waste it. Not only can Aish use the footy well though, but he can find it, and take the game on with it too.

Kudos, you obviously watch a lot of Brisbane's reserves team.

I have a more positive view of Aish as a player than some Lions fans, but this assessment could be described as highly optimistic at best.

Aish wont make a big impact to your side for at least 2 years

I don't take any notice of James Aish's 2015 form. He was unhappy at Brisbane, and didn't want to be there. He wanted to go to Collingwood as part of the Dayne Beams deal last year, but it's great that he's there now!

I think he will immediately improve Collingwood.

As always its way too early to call who won trade week. It really depends on the events that occur in the next few years.

If Geelong use the new senior players they've acquired to win a premiership or even go close to one then clearly they've won trade week. But if they fall over in a heap then the draft picks they've given up are going to bite them in the arse massively.

Same goes for Collingwood, although I would suggest that Collingwood is in a much more precarious position. They need to make a far greater jump than Geelong to get to the promise land without the loss of draft picks biting them on the bum. That said if any other club was in Collingwoods position I'd suggest most would do the same. Treloar and Aish are big instant ticks.

Adelaide and Carlton both had an excellent trade week given the situation they were in. On paper both clubs lost out, but a week before things were looking much dire. Plenty of pleasant surprises for supporters of both clubs. Before any trolls accuse me of being bias just think about this, we ended up with PICK 8 for Lachlan Henderson. A player who's had one reasonable year two years ago, and has since spent most of his time shuffling around our forward line looking lost and depressed.

I'm guessing GWS and Brisbane are pretty happy with themselves right now. Brisbane especially has an argument that they won trade week this year.

Freo did well to get Harley for peanuts, but the guy is massive a tool... among other things. Didn't get the key forward they wanted, and probably destroyed their relationship with GWS when they tried to steal McCarthy by offering to trade glass beads and a piece of paper.

I got a bit of grief for the glowing terms I described Aish in in the thread about his trade. I now feel like I undersold him and he is already the second coming of a better Sam Mitchell, although I'm surprised KissStephanie's Aish hasn't cured cancer as well.

James Aish isn't a physician or a scientist, but he is a very talented footy player with immense skills. I think that will be quite evident in the coming years. He is only 19 years old.

I believe it is quite accurate. I followed James Aish quite closely leading up to the 2013 National Draft. His first season was highly promising, but I take little notice of his second year blues because he simply didn't want to be at Brisbane.

Geelong clearly win for the next couple of years.. but have completely thrown away their future depth. Could come back to bite them.
Really? by throwing away picks from 1 year. Yes we gave up a 1st rounder for 2016, did get back a future 3rd rounder likely to be late 30's in return, which is a good range for Wells. In the end we still have 30 players born in the 90's, so 25 and under, problem has been getting a few of them on the park. Don't really think this guts us for the future. If we do the same next year then yes it will though.

In's far outweigh the outs. Unfortunate that we had 3 premature retirees who would be depth in 2016 but can't help that and is irrelevant in discussing our trade period. The only out I'm upset over is Gore. He will be a good player.

At face value I would have said the Demons did very well - Melksham trade aside (he might prove useful anyway) they've managed two top ten picks and Thomas Bugg I rate.

Has anyone done a break down of what teams started with vs what they have now.?
I think Freo started with 16, 35 and 56.
Ended up with 22, 35, 61 and Bennell. Plus traded out their 2016 second round pick.
Not a high price, but results will depend on how Bennell goes.
You better get McCarthy (or similar) next year though. Crying out for a power forward, and for the first time in a while actually have a player wanting to come. Just got to get it done imo.

Sounds like someone has a bit of a crush. :p

Ok:confused:
Look, it's probably worth mentioning that a couple of junior footy watchers on here think Aish hasn't improved at all as a footballer since he was 16. I'm a little sceptical of that opinion, but am also yet to see anyone credible be overly effusive in their praise of Aish. I think the best comparison I've seen is a slightly inferior version of Marc Murphy.

They used two top 10 picks to get the two top ten picks though.

But I agree that it was a good move (as they moved up the order).

You might not rate Aish . But just to give you a brief summary.
Your list management and coaches rated not only Aish but Howe also so much you guys offered both of them bigger deals! and better money to come at the Kangaroos.
You guys might have really good experience players , but i could name you at least half a dozen magpie kids that your youngsters dont even come close too. Including Aish!

I think your message is a little spitefull . He is only 19 give the kid a break and is very happy to be at the pies. I am quite confident he will improve leaps and bounds in the next 3 or 4 years.
At the end of the day you dont want players that dont want to be at your club as good as they might be ie Aish and Beams

Heh? Try reading it again.

Clubs weren't exactly meant to be falling over each other to have a big crack at Aish this trade period. He seemed to be the 2nd or 3rd biggest priority for those few that were interested, too. I reckon that says something.

Really? Roos Blues just on top of my head and they offered him more $$$. Just to name a few clubs .If he didnt nominate Collingwood i am sure other clubs would have had a red hot go at him. The Hawks also showed a intetest.
He is pretty much an upgrade to Freeman so were quite happy with that.
Its a pity you guys didnt wait until Thursday to get Carlisle you could have had him at a discounted rate.

Collingwood's position is not precarious at all.All they need to do is trade for a first rounder next year. Or maybe one or two second rounders. And were back were we started from.

James Aish is 19. He was 16 only three years ago, and not very likely at all to have peaked yet. Marc Murphy is 28 years old, and should be a more advanced player because he is nine years older and has played 172 more games, so I'm not sure how you came-up with that comparison. Aish had a better first season than Murphy though, but too many people read too much into his second season. He didn't want to be at Brisbane and his unhappiness was reflected in his performances.

Collingwood had the right to go after Treloar but costed too much.

Howe is a one dimensional player and fades in and out of games too much and rank Melbournes list higher. He will disappoint.

Aish is as good as the four GWS kids Carlton bought in - which is not saying much.

Treloar is a gun but nowhere near to the level of Dangerfield, Fyfe, Pendelbury, Hodge, Lewis, Hannebery etc.

More in line with Gaff, Martin & Mitchell and they're not worth two first round picks.

Not sure - reckon Buckley will get sacked due to perception of strong trade period.
=============================================================================

Geelong - bargain city with Dangerfield but that was a lowball trade and hope Adelaide punish Geelong for it in the future. - tick
Henderson - is a seriously good player especially in defence was touted best swingman in 2013.. his elimination final against Richmond in 2013 shows his class in defence injured abit in 2014 and 2015 a write off but in terms of talent and professionalism - tick
Selwood - meh for free so other than taking up space in TPP not much to be said - meh
Smith - right age to start blossoming may take another 24 months got him cheaply too. - tick

Sold the farm for two players not sure if it as good as everybody says it is.

Carlisle made sure St.Kilda lost it.
Never seen a club get a player and regret it only a day later.
The guy is seriously an idiot. Hate to be a St.Kilda player knowing you just signed this idiot up and you got to waste your time talking to him. He must be a laughing stock amongst most other players in the league.
