So who won trade week!?

Aish is s great get. Class, time and balance. To say otherwise is just bitterness and jealously. Two 2nd rounders is a steal.
Good luck to the pies, used early picks but Treloar and Aish are young so negated. Building a brilliant list for sustained contending.
Holy crap. A completely unbiased opinion from a blues supporter.

Great summary.

Jimmy Toumpas looked like a gun in his draft year too... Obviously you haven't watched a lot of Lions games.

Aish is a gun. Jimmy Toumpas not so much. I can't wait for the let down when us Brisbane fans realise we sold Aish on the cheap for 2 years worth of second rounders to see this star shine at the pies.
I totally agree , great post. #AishOsideBYside

Same goes for Collingwood, although I would suggest that Collingwood is in a much more precarious position. They need to make a far greater jump than Geelong to get to the promise land without the loss of draft picks biting them on the bum. That said if any other club was in Collingwoods position I'd suggest most would do the same. Treloar and Aish are big instant ticks.
You realise Aish and Treloar are 19 and 22 yeah?

You are joking right?

You received 2 list plodders from GWS in 2014 and 4 more this year

You are GWS graveyard B Grade players

Melbourne picked up Bugg who is way ahead of any of those players and Pies Treloar, yet you are happy??

Geelong has done very well, if Pies can get Aish close second if not equal
Bugg ahead of any of the gws carlton boys ah why?? If only 1 or 2 of them turn out well its a plus as the blues have improved their draft order immensely by using them to improve their draft standing 1 and 19 is now 1 ,8,11 and 19 only time will tell on the lot unless of course you are nostradamus!

Collingwood had the right to go after Treloar but costed too much.

Howe is a one dimensional player and fades in and out of games too much and rank Melbournes list higher. He will disappoint.

Aish is as good as the four GWS kids Carlton bought in - which is not saying much.

Treloar is a gun but nowhere near to the level of Dangerfield, Fyfe, Pendelbury, Hodge, Lewis, Hannebery etc.

More in line with Gaff, Martin & Mitchell and they're not worth two first round picks.

Not sure - reckon Buckley will get sacked due to perception of strong trade period.

==============================================================================

Any club would have paid what we did for Treloar. Our first rounder was always going to be on the table and we essentially downgraded another first rounder into a second. So it wasn't two first rounders on their own for him. At 22 yrs of age, we have signed a very very good player with his best football ahead of him.

Howe has his inconsistency issues however losing him for Ben Kennedy is an upgrade for us when Ben isn't in our best 22.

Aish is better than all the GWS 4. That could change down the track with development, injuries etc but lets not kid ourselves there. Aish on the open market was worth more on his own than that GWS 4 combined.

Contrary to most people's opinions, I don't think Essendon did that well in trade week. Players should be seen by recruiters as assets to win a premiership and I'm not sure when they are hoping to challenge for one. Obviously not next year or the year after. Maybe in 3-5 years they are hoping to go for that premiership, but if so, why only get guys who will be 29-31 in three years (Bird and Leuenberger) or 21 and under (their draft picks)? To me they should either be going into full rebuild mode (trade out players with currency, go to the draft) or stockpile some depth and players who will be in their prime when they hope to contend. Names like Bastinac, Tomlinson, Anderson, Seedsman or Townsend could have added depth and ended up as components of a winning team, without giving up all that much.

Yeah thanks mate. It totally sucks loosing Aish as well as other's this year. You and I both know Aish Is a big loss and a star it's so ridiculous.
That's cool, Geelong, freo, demon's port, pies, eagle's and saints are the trade winner'sthis year #black&whiteAisho

They got rid of Melksham for pick 25. That's a win right there. He is a foot soldier nothing more. Maybe pick 25 can find some actual talent for long term.
They got Leunberger for nothing and they offloaded the burden of Carlise to St.Kilda with perfect timing and got pick 5 in the process.
They are no premiership threat any time soon but baby steps forward is better than going backwards or still dealing with dumb Carlisle.

Yeah their trades were all in their favour but it's what they didn't get that was surprising. Not just the names in my post above, just would have heavily targeted any decent 21-24yo's if I was in their position.

Would any of those higher profile younger targets have wanted to go there with the WADA stuff still being an uncertainty though and them having no shortage of other options?

Harley Bennell probably in lower part of that age range but hardly the profile they need right now.
There is only so many gun players available at trade time. Dangerfield was going to Geelong and given Don's WADA issues it is not really an attractive club to goto right at this time if you are a player in that age range you speak of. As it was I thought they did well to get Leunberger for nothing. He could still turn out to be a quality ruckman and be there long enough to see through all the fall out from Dank-Hird era. They are more or less in damage control than growth period. Holding onto the younger talent they have is probably priority number one so once WADA shit is over they have something to build from. Merretts , Daniher, Hurley, Langford, Heppell and now Leunberger is their longer term future. Similar to my club they need to take a long term view and invest in early draft picks for a number of seasons. 4 and 5 this year is a good injection. Ooops. Poor choice of word, I know.
In truth they should be doing cartwheels knowing neither Hird or Carlisle is still at their club.
Imagine if they still had Carlisle. Trust me, they must be partying at their luck of timing of trade.

I have to admit, people saying that Aish is a gun are stupid. Similarly, those saying he is shit are as stupid.

He is a youngster that played really well in his first year, really shit in his second year.

He is a youngster with a lot of upside In which he could develop into a gun. That's why brisbane wanted to keep him, Why North tried to lure him.

It's not guaranteed that he will become a gun, but for what they paid he is a good pick up.

If Carlton get Tomlinson and Aish goes into the PSD we would have to be close to winners.

But that's draft week not trade week.

Which highlights the flaw in many on here discussing who "won" trade week.

Geelong picked up the best player in Dangerfield but paid a Judd price for him, 2 early picks and a player. They then paid next years forst rounder for Henderson but got Selwood for nothing. If they have also got Dangerfield for nothing then they would have killed it. But instead Geelong traded in 4 players (1 FA) but are now shot for the next two drafts.

Collingwood in a similar position but still have pick 1 next year.

Anyone can trade in lots of good players if they ofer up two years early picks. (well maybe not everyone....hey Freo;))

As an Eagles fan I'm content we did well. We lost Selwood to FA for 38 after two injury affected years and with question marks about his kicking, also the most tackled midfielder in the comp. We lost Rosa late for pick 31 which is pretty good for a 29 yr old who most likely would have been a fringe player next year.

We also lost Sinclair as a decent 2nd / 3rd ruck for Jetta.

Coming in Redden at 24 is a slight upgrade on Selwood, especially when injuries are factored in.

Jetta at 26 is an upgrade for Rosa and adds something we don't have.

Giles coming in as a 3rd ruck isn't a big downgrade, could actually work out a better 2nd ruck than Sinclair and the club has Lycett who struggled with a groin issue from early in the year.

All all this cost the Eagles a 6 pick down grade in the first round pick 17 down to 23 but ended up with a 6 pick upgrade in the second round from 37 to 31. So the club upgraded the midfield in age and class but didn't cost them a whole pick at all and is still at the pointy end of the draft.

Eagles didn't win trade week but they did very nicely and with very little fuss.:thumbsu:

Definitely not the Treloars, Dangerfields and Aishes, but I imagine it would have been possible to get 2-3 lesser, cheaper players in that age bracket. They just weren't here nor there and I think that's been a problem of theirs for a while now.
