So...who's left?

I think we will definately get Lower and probably Jesse back via Psd/rookie.

The other two I hope are a combination of the following:
Laine Wilkens
Marvin Warrell (not a need but a very classy player)
Sam Colquhoun (see above)
Ben Saunders (need)
Justin Hardy (need)
Josh Toy??? didnt get picked up yesterday...

Because anyone worth getting is already gone.

Just a quick look at KPP and I came up with this list (there are probably more)

Justin Hardy
Jake Calvert
Mason Middleton
Khan Harekatu
Nick Rodda
Jack Frost
Jack Hannath
Lucas Cook
Josh Toy
Scott Clouston
Alex Howson
Harley Walshe
Matt Wallis
Jackson Coleman
Aaron Luccon
Josh Porter

I think we only want one PSD and three rookies. This gives us a spot on our main list and ability to promote the one we want to play first, including the current rookies and Moller. I'd rather have that option and something for the guys to fight for than only be able to play them if we have a long term injury.

We cant take 3 rookies

You can scrub Khan off that list. RTB told him he was no good when he was at Saint Kilda. Add Jai Sheahan and Liam Flaherty

Well, I have a bit of hope with the rookie draft. Barlow's success is obvious, Nick Lower was serviceable, Big Griff would be our first ruckman with no issue (but you know, we have that Sandilands guy that goes okay), and I really liked Lee Spurr this year. I thought Spurr was really underrated, to be honest, you could really see how good a player he was when you saw him in the flesh.

We obviously need a KPF and I hope we basically have to grab one. Pavlich is nearing the end of his career. When you have the natural ability and work ethic (a rare combination) of Pav, you'll get the best out of him when he plays: But I think he'll only be fit for 15-18 games next season, and he'll be gone in two or three. Definitely need to get a forward who can learn from our best ever: And the best way to learn is by playing.

Yeah. So an 18-year old Pav, please...

Fair enough - was just putting a list together of KPP, whether they are any good or not I wasn't concerned with.

The point being is that there are plenty of talls to discuss rather than discussing midfielders and flankers - especially considering that everyone is whinging that we didnt take 3 x talls in the draft.

(this isn't aimed directly at you DL)

Maybe a ready made KPF?

Justin Hardy
Height: 196cm
Weight: 97kg
Age: 24
Games this year: 19
Goals this year: 58 - Won the Ken Farmer Medal (for most goals in the 2012 SANFL League Season Minor Round)

I saw another longer clip of him somewhere but I can't find it. Here are a couple of short ones I found

Just on that clip he looks a better propsect than ol Jack was for us

If there was a decent KPF option available at 39 (that they rated) they would have pulled the trigger.

It isn't to say there isn't a high risk/reward player out there, but you don't hand over two year contracts to those experiment types. At least not without having a good close look at them over the coming weeks (inviting then to train with the squad).

Garletts been
Come on Fremantle FC. Invite him to train, if he works hard then pick him up in the PSD.

If he isn't training with us, when he could be then we are leaving a stone unturned.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/afl/15454431/garlett-urged-to-keep-chasing-his-afl-dream/

Mr Smart said he and Garlett would start contacting AFL clubs today, with offers to train to show how much the chance to play football at the highest level meant to him.

Garlett's family rallied around him at the club before the draft in a show of solidarity.
His stepfather Eddie Humphries, who works for the Department of Child Protection, and mother Matilda Prosser are guardians for four grandchildren. They said they had been upset by the continuing publicity surrounding Dayle throughout the year. They stressed they were a good family and that Dayle was a good son who was popular with many people.

Garletts been invited by Hird to train with Essendon, doesnt mean we cant draft him though

It means that Freo rated Duffy ahead of any KPP's that were left in the draft. It doesn't mean that we dont rate any of them. It could mean that they felt that Duffy wouldnt make it through to PSD/Rookie where as one of the remaining KPP's will. So, they make the judgement call and bring Duffy in now and grab the KPP in the PSD/Rookie

This has worked well in the past:

Barlow
Silvagni
Lower
DeBoer
Broughton
Pearce
Spurr

I would love us ot get a KPF before anything else but you don't draft them for the sake of filling a need if the ones left in the draft arn't worth much. Most of the decent KPF were already taken before our sencond pick.

Yeah, good call.

I guess I just don't get why he fits a need when we have so much depth and talent there as it is.

I actually agree with you - I also dont see how Duffy fits a need right now. IMO Crozier started to show good signs last season before going down with Glandular Fevour. Mellington was also showing he can play AFL before getting injured and Walters stepped up when he got his chance late in the year.

Hardy, Howson and Rodda for the talls.

Colquoun (sp? could become the next Creightonasjddj) if we are looking for a skinner flanker with an elite boot.. you know, to take the pressure of Pitt

Hardy, Howson and Rodda for the talls.

I'd look at all those talls and I'd throw in Warrell, who has shown the ability to have big games in the last two GF's for South with 5 goals as a forward pocket and then 3 goals and BOG as a midfielder in this years Colts GF. Reminds me so much of Phil Krakouer.

Today I'm thinking Duffy was a good pick up, would of hated to of gotten Membrey. No kpps available. Duffy has the athletic capacity as shown by his testing, and has good awareness. Seems to have some footy nouse too. Very solid pick up.

In the post draft interviews he hasn't given even a hint of the self entitlement or arrogance people have alluded to, so for the moment I'm thinking that those impressions may have been not quite fair.

He also went through the experience of completely missing out on getting drafted. Which should be pretty character building, and make him appreciate more than others the opportunity. It might even make him a better player. I'm sure Peel will be happy anyway.

I agree and if he does seem arrogant etc. so does Ballas it's just self-confidence and it will take him a long way at the AFL level.

There's only one remaining WA tall I'd look at drafting and that's Alex Howson.

He's not physically ready for the big league and he has issues when he receives physical attention, but his ability to time his leads, take a strong overhead grab and also play as a lock down defender gives him enough of a skill set to be a candidate for a rookie spot.

Kicked 58 goals from 18 matches with 27 points to go with it, he knows where to go as a forward.
