So...who's left?

Hardy, make it happen. Although I am very easily persuaded due to our need for a KPF. Put a highlights reel in front of me and I'll like anyone.

9 News saying Essendon have invited Garlett to train with them leading up to the Pre-Season/Rookie draft. Garlett looked chubby on the footage. I'm not sure if we will pick him anyway.

It means that Freo rated Duffy ahead of any KPP's that were left in the draft. It doesn't mean that we dont rate any of them. It could mean that they felt that Duffy wouldnt make it through to PSD/Rookie where as one of the remaining KPP's will. So, they make the judgement call and bring Duffy in now and grab the KPP in the PSD/Rookie

This has worked well in the past:

Barlow
Silvagni
Lower
DeBoer
Broughton
Pearce
Spurr

Our rookie drafting has provided better results than our mid to late drafting which is bizarre. The big exception ( insert heave sighs and eye rolls here ) is there are no Key Position Forwards here. To succeed you most likely have to use your high picks and develop. It also helps when they are local to remove the McPhee, Roberton, White, gobackhometomummy scenario.

Well with 2 rookie spots and 1 PSD (other than Lower) I would like to see them take Alex Howson as a rookie and Hardy as a PSD. I know they are looking at Chrikeytown as the other rookie selection but I still have seen nothing that interests me there, would rather Nelson or other.

Garlett I think now has to leave WA to have a chance - get away from bad influences.

Have to go for a KPF. Someone like Groom, Feddema, Fewster or Daniel Schell. Maybe Campbell or Murphy? Houghton, Sibosado or Anthony perhaps? On a winner with every KPF we've picked. Spose Croad, Brown and Tarrant did ok for a while .....

just because we have been rubbish with KPF's in the past, doesnt mean we stop trying. I actually think that our history with key forward development has scared bond and lloyd into inaction a little bit. They are looking for an absolute gun, but to get that we need a top 3 pick. I dont think they have faith in our ability to develop key talls, which is a big concern. Yes the talent has to be there. But Kurt Tippet, Quinten Lynch, Drew Petrie, taylor walker were all late picks or rookies/scholarship players. It is possible to find a late decent forward. You just need to have some balls and a good development system. Unfortunately it doesnt seem like we have either in that department

Our recruiting dept. criteria forTalls hasnt helped, athletic skinny types with huge potential, that most clubs do not see.
Elite beep tests, leading forwards, that dont take contested marks. Do not use first round picks on kp's, use second or third round
picks, free agency, deal with Collingwood for discarded Anthony, while they steal Tarrant back, should of traded when had currency.
When we do use a first round pick, Pavlich goes alright.

Personally, I think the top key components for a key forward should be Contested Marking and kicking accuracy. Which is why I wanted Shaw ahead of paparone. After that anything else is a bonus i.e great beep test, agility etc... these other factors are important, but i think it is the difference between getting a Jonathon Brown or an Ash Hansen.

Going off the passes in the ND, and adding in 2 picks for Freo (McPhee and Anthony) and 1 for Adelaide (Tippett) this is what I get:
Round 1
1. GWS
2. Bulldogs
3. Port Adelaide
4. Richmond
5. Essendon
6. Carlton
7. Fremantle
8. Collingwood
9. Adelaide
10. Sydney
Round 2
11. GWS
12. Richmond
13. Carlton
14. Fremantle
15. Sydney
Round 3
16. Sydney
FYI

Doesn't work mate. I tried that with O'Brien and Shaw. Surprisingly, recruiters don't listen to the BF intelligentsia.

I know that it doesn't, but how many of the same type of player can we have whilst having such glaring deficiencies in other areas?

Who here seriously thinks that Crichton offers anything to the team that is not already offered by other players? Anyone?

If he is already behind the pecking order of a brand new draft pick and roughly 11 other players it is pretty safe to say hat he won't get a game.

A key position forward rookie would have a very good chance of a game due to the ( add Nausium ) shortage of KPR Forwards.

Why not give some kid from the WAFL a chance if his ability, attitude and agility are good?

It does not make sense re drafting a player who will not play.

I'm curious, if Duffy kicks 40 goals for Freo in a year will be still be seen as a failure by our recruiters because he's 4cm shorter than some of the players we've left on the board? Is it requirement for our forwards to be above 190 no matter how effective they become?

I think the general consensus is that we don't have anyone to go to the FF position like Pavlich does and hold it down. Bradley is a goof, Mayne's natural game is restricted, Clarke doesn't have the nous, etc. We need to get someone on the list that plays FF first and other things second and that means a 194cm plus KPF.

Don't worry, I agree we need a KPF, but just making the point they seem more 'hit and miss' than midfielders, flankers etc. Maybe that's just because they're more high profile (ie Jack Watts) and there's less of them. We've still got a rookie draft to go and a few more drafts to find some sort of Pav replacement. Is there no 29 year old 'Pods' out there to fill our current need?
