Is that comment directed at me? I hope not.

Whether you agree with the sentiments of the banner or not (and the other racist rants the person put up on social media) is irrelevant.

That sort of stuff does not belong at a sporting match.

Take the protests to the streets.

My Dad, who came to Australia as a refugee post WWII, seems to have become paranoid about Muslim refugees. Its just...ugh. All those anglos weren't too psyched about him coming along either.

Last night his solution to Muslim militancy was that westerners should celebrate all the saints days and festivals again so Christianity can attract zealots like Islam does. "Not like the Crusades though"

Fear really ****s people up and over

OMG...did we grow up in the same family? I could post nearly the same word for word

I don't understand why they weren't asked to remove the banner by MCG/AFL stuff.

There would be conditions of entry and stuff like that would probably breach said conditions.

pretty sure the majority of people in the middle east didn't want to flee their countries after a western coalition showed up to bomb the shit out of them, destroy their homes and families and leave behind a power vacuum in which IS could flourish, bigots and the like here may nay say it but it doesn't stop that being the truth :thumbsu:

Counter point is that the West didn't want a couple of planes crashing in to their cities and killing 3000 out of nowhere.

This whole thing is a giant chicken and egg scenario.

Wait
Long time reader or name Change haha
I've been reading very occasionally at least since Porthos was a mod, but never had any spare time until a complete change of life a year or so ago. During the Choco/drafting/trading fiasco of all those years ago I raged silently with Portia on this. Having quit work and temporarily at least "retired" to my dream bush property I just had to decide/work up the guts to join up. I knew if I signed up I'd be right into it. It's weird because I feel like I "know" all of the old time posters but have never actually interacted with any of you. Thanks for all the good stuff.

America has been meddling in the Middle East far longer than 15 years

Welcome aboard!

I know, hence my chicken and egg line. I didn't mean it was the starting point of the current situations.
What came first was America though. The egg is the Middle East and America has gone and dropped it on the kitchen floor and now it's a big ol mess that even mum can't clean up.

Bruce Springsteen has cancelled his North Carolina shows in protest at the passing of HB2, which the media are referring to as the “bathroom” law. HB2 — known officially as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act — dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use.

Here is the full comment on http://brucespringsteen.net/

As you, my fans, know I’m scheduled to play in Greensboro, North Carolina this Sunday. As we also know, North Carolina has just passed HB2, which the media are referring to as the “bathroom” law. HB2 — known officially as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act — dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use. Just as important, the law also attacks the rights of LGBT citizens to sue when their human rights are violated in the workplace. No other group of North Carolinians faces such a burden. To my mind, it’s an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognizing the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress. Right now, there are many groups, businesses, and individuals in North Carolina working to oppose and overcome these negative developments. Taking all of this into account, I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters. As a result, and with deepest apologies to our dedicated fans in Greensboro, we have canceled our show scheduled for Sunday, April 10th. Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them. It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s Sunday April 10th show is canceled. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.

That should hit a few North Carolinians right in the boomers

America was attacked by Muslims first actually, at a time when America didn't have a foreign policy let alone meddle in the Middle East or anywhere on the planet. They barely had a navy at the time.
It's how the Marine Corps was born in fact.

To ignore this and say that the American's are at fault is ignoring the reality that factions within Islam are "militaristic", and that has today manifested into what we call terrorism.
Take away nuclear weapons, and put us in a world were say the Saudis, Turks and Egyptians aren't reliant on American and Western weapons but their own, and they'd be waging war against the West directly.
The situation today has dictated that they attack us indirectly, and Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc, are funding extremist Islam and terrorism around the world.
They are waging their "Jihad" against us one way or another.
The problem in the West is that it's not politically correct to be so honest and blunt about what's going on.

It's unfortunate though because the majority of Muslims are like all of us and have no time for that shit.
And just because some are "bad", doesn't excuse the banners displayed.

Everything else aside, Koch's role in enabling and supporting Hanson is something for which he should be made to account for.

From a club perspective, it is ridiculous to be attempting to do deals in China while our President is giving support to such a virulent racist. It also undercuts our club's efforts with indigenous programs. For me, it makes his continued presidency untenable.

..... Koch's role in enabling and supporting Hanson .......
What role?

I didn't know Koch is a Pauline Hanson supporter.

"DAVID Koch has told Pauline Hanson she upsets him because her message is packaged up in such a hateful way that “affects so many other lives” ......

Kochie went on to say that his Sri Lankan son-in-law gets called a terrorist and told to leave Australia when he walks down the street."

So, the message is okay but it is the packaging that's the issue?

I am not saying that Koch personally agrees with Hanson's views. His program has been and continues to be a soapbox for her. He and they knew what she was going to say. They counted on it. That's why they paid for it. That is the support I'm talking about.

People are allowed to have an opinion that doesn't align with yours or anyone elses whether we like it or not. Attacking her is no different than her attacking others. I'm not sure what angle you are trying to take here.

I don't even think he is really saying the message is OK, he is just trying to be, well, "vanilla".

Unfortunately at work I am subjected to more of Sunrise than is good for my IQ and judging from what they see as "news" and my perception of their target audience I am not surprised that they are a soapbox for Hanson and her ilk in the bid for ratings.

yes I see no issue with Kochie's comments.
We have the nicest, most friendly, most polite Muslim family you could ever meet living next door to us. Their children are 100% more respectful than most Aussie kids in this area too.
Hanson is lumping all Muslims together, both the decent, integrated law abiding ones along with the radical ones and I believe that is Koch's point and I agree with him. The radicalised ones and those not abiding our laws should leave but they are the minority.
