Hanson would have been an irrelevance if not for the airtime Sunrise & other lazy programs gave her in their in return for cheap controversy. To say Koch has no editorial say is bullshit, others have walked in protest before. These operators are too savvy to now throw their arms up & say "not my fault". Her divisive remarks in her "maiden" speech have overshadowed the disgusting attitude toward domestic violence she spewed.
**** her.
Koch has done good things for the club but he's a shill for whatever rates.

It is absolutely outrageous that someone who masquerades under a 'One Nation' banner wants to alienate and divide a multi cultural society. .......
"One Nation" just means the way they want the nation to be just as "Family First" means their family first and $%&* the rest of you. Common naming method with right wing groups with the aim of sounding inclusive when they are in fact the opposite.

All the people with the IQ of a potato say "she's saying what we're all thinking".
They count too.
Many people see the headline and somehow associate something with it. Once she goes into further detail they get to see beyond the headlines.

In this case being vanilla is tacit support.

I am probably the only one who has made the connection here but I think it's one worth making. I would prefer the club to take strong positions against rising bigotry. That includes the President, in whatever role he is in at the time.

As John Howard has quite rightly said, if you attack her - it will in some ways vindicate her position and only solidify her support. It's best to treat extremists with respect (you need not agree with them) as not to marginalise them. When they are marginalised it only plays into their hands. If you debate with her, it will only result in more harsh words being said about certain cultures - just let her have her say and move on. If you don't poke it, it won't respond so aggressively.

Yeah I'm experiencing cognitive dissonance over this right now.

Kochie challenges Hanson for her hate speeches, but in the same breath says "I agree with a lot of what you are saying" to keep her and her supporters on side.

Hanson is able to maintain her profile and relevancy prior to the election because Sunrise (among others) gives her a platform (I'll take MrMeaner's word for this) (yes he's not the producer, but let's not pretend Koch has no influence on the content).

I feel uncomfortable about it. I'd prefer if Koch had objected more strongly. "No, a lot of your views are based on untruthful beliefs." "No, I don't want that bigot espousing her messages on my show."

The question this raises is what moral and political standards we expect from our clubs' executive, and whether this extends to their roles outside of official club duties.

So personally, while I feel uncomfortable, I don't think Koch has crossed the line.

Sunrise has alot to do with Port Adelaide. Our biggest and most widely known figurehead runs the place, reaching millions of viewers every morning. What he does affects our brand. It's politics and it's business - and you never mix business with politics.

apparently now it's "we exist to win premierships and make our community proud" - Ken signed out with it again in his B&F speech, I think he said that line then "and we'll make you proud again" - this is either just Kenny's writing and nice words to the fans or a deliberate message to end his speech written by someone else - we don't wanna hear the part about making us proud emphasised, we wanna hear that we want the flag desperately, as desperately as we seem to want to make our community proud. i did immediately think this line was a part of the vanillarisation of Port Adelaide - changing that epic slogan to something softer, no matter what the words stand for, is watering it down isn't it?

agree on that

"we exist to win premierships" is a very clear goal

the need to be proud is a need driven by insecurity

Nothing wrong with hanson but yeah thats anouther thing
Koch had made us a bitch to the afl he has helped alot but also damaged a fair bit

lol this post.

Hanson is good but maybe bad, Koch is bad but maybe good, but bad.

He hosts the show, he doesn't set the agenda. It's his job to be impartial and sit on the fence. If you've got a problem with Sunrise's content, take it up with Channel 7.

It's not like he whacked a PA monogram hat on the woman or anything (although I'd genuinely lol if he did)

One last one.

I was referring to the period before she elected.
She speaks for a lot of people, she's a legitimate politician.

I feel dirty saying it though.

I am with you MrMeaner, its one of the downsides of having a President with such a high profile.

And Koch would have a heck of a lot of say of what does and doesn't happen on Sunrise.

To "respect" an extremist position you lend legitimacy to it. Can't win. I say denouncing is better.
