Short paragraphs make for easier reading. Large chunks of prose can be daunting in threads.
True. Too long though. A 600 character limit would improve this forum immensely.

So he should of got a Lifetime Ban?
I thought it was pretty reasonable that he would get 10 weeks for just betting on Collingwood games.

However, betting on yourself and margins is borderline (dare I say it) match-fixing.

Of course, give him the benefit of the doubt for being young, but you go overseas and see this in another sport and they would get done for years.

Don't tell me Stepho's punishment is harsh. He's gotten off real easy and has done way worse.

$36, multiple bets, multiple matches = 10 matches
3 pounds, one bet, one match = 18 month ban

It was on the news, he looked very upset. Buckley apparently spent 45 minutes talking to him, then hugged him. He was interviewed later - didnt look all that happy.
Wait and see I guess.

And that is relevant how?

No, but he should be counting his lucky stars he's only missing 10 matches.

I don't think you understand the serious nature of what he's done.
He’s probably out celebrating now...

Of course he knew what he was doing.

But to openly express to a teammate (Howe) that he lost a multi suggests he was ignorant of the rules around betting or he's just plain thick?
Extremely naive combined with youthful invincibility combined with the thrill of acting out.

I don’t follow football of that nature but he seems to have put on a few more than just 1 bet?

Certainly a steep penalty for stupidity and to make an example of him was warranted. What I find disturbing though is the incentive for anyone or any club to self report and regulate has been utterly wiped off the table.

I think given the gravity of the penalty - not just games and money but the mental strain it will put on a very young man - will and should make every player, manager and club baulk at following this honest course of action.

Every manager should be asking their players to come to them first before deciding what to do next. The manager will then act in clients best interest. A necessary evil as I see it now.

Honesty is great but you cannot cultivate an honest culture with penalties like that. It is plainly clear he would have got away with it if he was not honest and didn’t follow the process. The vast majority would not have been honest and now they would be vindicated in that thinking.

This should have been an opportunity to educate not execute. It is akin to a kid owning up to swiping a business mans wallet then publicly cutting their hands off. Will that stop stealing? Maybe a bit, will that kill honesty, absolutely, cover your tracks kids no matter what you have done.

Deserved a whack for this, originally I thought 6 weeks but the more that comes out I’m thinking he shouldn’t have been allowed to play finals. Such a stupid thing to do, players all know not to do it, how much more could the club or afl do. Who knows what impact to the season this has, such a quality player it’s a shame he won’t be on the park.

Mihocek kicking that point at the end of the Saints might have been the best thing that’s happened for Stevo.

Imagine if things went the other way....

Time for us to move on. Hopefully the bloke has learnt his lesson.

He might of Stopped Himself and never got Caught

But thats what we do in Australia 4#Didak#4 to keep the status quo, you know that. We punish the whistleblowers and charge them with 36 life sentences so anyone else with any inkling to speak up about persons in authority abusing their powers will STFU or else theyll end up the same way!!

Its the AFL's modus operandi, keep everyones mouth shut about the stuff that everyone knows is going on and is really just business at the end of the day so as not to set off the virtuous harpies in the press who then incite the public hysteria, and when you havent been able to effectively contain business because of some pesky lone cowboy you then have to "manage the messaging". Its public relations 101

What are you talking about? I was under the impression that Pendlebury getting 27 touches instead of 30+ was what killed his Saints multi.

so very stupid of Stevo and I'm fuming.... how can anyone be so dumb? To be honest though, I see dumb shit every day at work. But 10 weeks is harsh because there was no evidence of him match fixing. They viewed the games in question. Also remember the suspended part was because he did self report.

What an idiot...

I agreed at first until I heard that a bet included winning margins. That influences the integrity of the game.

Wonder if he would have gotten away with it if he didn’t tell anyone- two cash bets made through friends and another bet through a friends account. How easy is it to track that?

So he did the Worse thing you could of done and In a way he is Lucky he even has a Career to comeback too as a Lifetime Ban would of Suited?
Are you ****ing serious right now.... NOBODY HAS SAID HE SHOULD BE BANNED FOR LIFE. STOP JUMPING TO THAT CONCLUSION.

God, I even literally said what he was lucky to escape from (being suspended for the the rest of the year) and you still go to the extreme...
