Took me 70 odd rounds for my first win which also resulted in one of of the best ever melts I’ve seen

Wow I was lucky to snag a win in my first few tries with a Police number - must be popular with the Punters [don't tell anyone hehe]. Wasted the theme in not going for 60s or 70s songs boohoo

Found it! Searched Muse in my PMs as remembered he took a shot at them. Can't find the original post so maybe its in an older SC thread.

This was the oft repeated mantra of our revered Song Contest Commissioner (Not TubbsFarquhar - the real one.)

Here is an 'advice for new players' that ive posted previously.


Please allow me to guide you through the ins and outs of our little competition.
(MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT IS BOLDED)

Each round the winner of the previous round hosts and their first duty is to pick a theme- the theme is invariably pointless and sh*t so its your responsibility to make them aware of this.

When (even after extended periods of abuse) they are foolish enough to stick with their ridiculous theme it then falls to you to pm them a nom.
As your musical taste is exquisite you instantly come up with a sure fire winner that fits the theme like a glove.
Five minutes later the host replies that your song is rejected for some petty trivial reason! They are obviously wrong so its your responsibility to correct them, this is best done via a series of abusive pm's.

When this fails you shake your head in amazement at the stupidity and stubbornness of others and graciously deign to pick another song almost as brilliant as the first.


The next day the host releases your masterpiece along with 20 or 30 other songs all vastly inferior to your own.
It is then your sacred responsibility to continually shitfight and abuse anyone whos tastes differ even slightly from your own. Feel free to extend this abuse to their age/state/football team/personal hygiene etc.
They deserve it for liking Muse.

You spend the next few days listening to your track on repeat with possibly 30 seconds of the other contestants noms thrown in here and there for lulz.

You then decide which five tracks you dislike least and pm them as votes to the host in a 54321 fashion.
You also have the agonizing choice of picking the very worst song to give a 'billy maddison' vote to.
Since this contest is filled with tasteless campaigners who nom vomit inducing, unlistenable sh*t deciding on the 'billy' is always hard work.

A couple of days later the host releases the results.
When instead of winning in a landslide your song receives 3 votes and finishes 24th out of 28 and the winner is some whiny millennial soft**** garbage you melt like crazy and the whole process repeats"

Greetings all!

Like the prodigal son I have returned once again in a futile attempt to improve your musical tastes.

Sadly it looks like my job is only becoming harder because any hopes that I harboured that the contest may have improved in my absence have been shattered.

At first glance the theme reeked.

The thinking was obviously "Hmmmm 'Olivia' is just too obscure to get a half decent play list together so lets chuck in a blokes name as well... Ahh I know, in fact I've got chills multiplying at the thought of the perfect male name to partner Olivia- who else but Paul!"

However upon reflection, it got me melting so that means its really a 10/10 theme- Kudos.

I also give some latitude that the playlist was likely to contain some obscure s**t from the smartarses that decided "I've got too much integrity to nominate a good song by a Paul so I'll nominate some dross by an Olive instead "

Thanks gais- really worked well.

Of course this left those with narrower musical knowledge and zero musical taste to pick some of the shittiest tunes I've had the displeasure of skipping.
Paul Simon and Paul Kelly have ******* huge discographies and from these we get 'Before too long' and bloody 'Graceland' both of which you have a 50/50 chance of hearing before lunch on any given Zzz FM classic hits station.

I bet we have had an influx of SFA and SRP posters looking to "Discover new music" and "Enjoy hearing what other people are listening to" too, well Kumbaya and joy ******* joy- unfortunately this is the exact opposite of what the contest is about.

At least the_interloper has somehow washed up here and he's kind of a bay poster- not a very good one unfortunately (and in saying 'not very good' I'm being extremely generous) but still.
