I also had Thru the Roof 83 and Choose 1985 and some other compilation tape from 1987 which I can't remember the name of.

They were all bought for me as birthday or Xmas presents as my relos had no idea what bands I liked and they were a safe bet.

It's funny and cant remember why but I had most of the early 80s ones on cassette but had from 85 to 89 on vinyl.

Choose 1985 was one of the best 80s compilations but looking at the list of songs they were mostly hits from 1984.

Like these bangers.

All the ones I had were on cassette which I preferred as you could play them on your own radio tape deck or a walkman.

If they were on vinyl you had to play them on the record player in the family lounge room when no one else was around.

84 was just peak pop.

1984 was a great year for music that but that 100 best singles of 1984 is a joke, some of the singles were from 1983 or 1985.

Prince overrated as usual, Purple Rain at no.8 is bad enough but When Doves Cry at no.1 is even worse, both terrible songs,

This was the real no.1 song from 1984 imo and they ranked it at no.55.

They had Eyes Without A Face ranked at no.47 when that was nowhere near as big a hit for Billy Idol as Rebel Yell back then.

The hit song from the Footrot Flats film was released in 1986 so that was probably on my 1987 compilation hit songs casette tape.

This was the best NZ hit from 1984, the swansong for Split Enz.

Its what the beginning of the SC was like.

Id be interested to know your votes.
Would have chosen DQ rather than listen to that playlist...

None of those songs, or many popular songs from the 80s appeal to me. My tastes have evolved way past that point. You would be hard pressed to find any 80s, let alone 90s albums on my Spotify.
