Guaranteed to happen. Why else would a team that was going to drop a division host finals that year? A couple of grand x 4 weeks is plenty of coin to conivince Div 3 talent to move to them.

Wow....looks like with everyone leaving Div 3, Quiet Observer and AnOld94 could've been right suggesting Heatherton and Springvale Districts with a fist full of $50's from hosting finals have poached the talent from Div 3! An average division has just become a lot more average......maybe at the expense of 1-2 clubs! Gough is a tossbag, but it's great to have 100+ goal kicker, but gone. Big losses....Do these guys pay tax??? Does the ATO know? Do Heatherton and co put in BAS with these poor EFL/CCFL players as employees??

it's a hobby not a career, you don't pay tax on it.
Otherwise Betty from bentleigh who plays competition bowls and wins the $1000 in prize money has to pay tax to ATO, but then she gets to claim travel expenses, uniform, laundry, equipment and that stupid hat she wears and get return. And also when she loses she can claim loss.

Mordialloc is one club that puts their paid players through their sports club as employees so they can keep track of expenditures and probably claim some kind of tax break.

most clubs are community clubs that are run by a committee of volunteers who give their time. If you tell them that they have to do BAS statements and deal with the ATO most people just wouldn't put their hand up to help.
They only start tax when you're turning over huge sums

So in answer to your off the top of your head question. Yes the ATO knows about these people that take money from clubs and ruin local footy and they don't give 2 shits about them
