ive seen a few people putting Keeler in their best 22 . Considering he hasnt played a game yet that seems to me to be a bit ambitious . But i havent seen him play very much , just the occasional game on tv and honestly he hasnt impressed me much at this stage . Before a whole heap of guys jump on my head remember ive probably seen him play twice . so whats the word , are we expecting big things from him or are people just getting a tad excited . Also should i be thinking about him as a sleeper for my supercoach team .

Be interesting picking our first round side if we have a fit list, there will be tough competition for spots. It may even come down to who performs in the pre-season games as to whom gets their noses in front.

The certainties are -

Steele, Wilkie, Marshall, Sinclair, King, Howard, Wanganeen-Milera, Woods, Macrae, Hill, Owens, Phillipou, Windhager, Higgins, Sharman, Caminiti, Butler, Henry (if fit) every other spot is up for grabs.

Ps sorry forgot Wilson

Sandy will be fielding a decent side too in the case

We say that every year but AFL level injuries always erode our playing depth at Sandy.

Sandy listed VFL players have been rubbish too over the last few years.

The players should be getting seasoned to the extra running/work loads RTB has introduced, so hopefully we can finally have a season with minimal injuries? We must be due some luck on the injury front - fingers crossed.

We havent seen anything of Travaglia and this year draft cohort at senior level, but I dont think like previous years there will be players or a player demanding to be picked every week. I think some of the slower burn players like Hall, Carroll, Keeler, Hastie, McLennan, OConnell, Heath will come into contention this year possibly ahead of the first year kids.

Sandringham have had a clean out so its a wait and see to how their top up players look. But as you have suggested if our senior list can remain mostly fit, Sandringham may finally have a decent and competitive side this year.

The first time with Ross, it was year 3 when the injuries significantly reduced.

The element I'm optimistic when it comes to our depth/Sandringham is that we are finally turning to youth for depth, rather than experienced back ups. For too long, we have placed misplaced trust in experienced depth, who in reality are injury prone/past their best. You're much better off having your depth come from promising young players who are fit and desperate for opportunity.

I couldn't agree more with this assessment. We're actually now in the position where the 1st year players have a bit more time up their sleeves but the down side is the "depth" players still have little or no games under their belts. What l am confident in is a big step up from Hugo and Pou, with the likes of Monty, Dow and Carroll keeping the pressure on for spots.
Assuming an ok injury run, we should now be at the point of critical mass which allows stability and a more linear growth phase. 🤞

I think there’s half a dozen players who could easily snap a spot (e.g., Hall, Boxshall, Barrat, Clarke, Garcia, Carrol, etc).

I’m hoping this will lean towards Sandy pulling together some strong performances and a competitive culture this season.

I’m inclined to give Schoe first crack at the third tall role, but cautious with his defensive positioning, contest work, and ability to read the kick inside 50.

If it doesn’t work out for Schoe, then Barratt might be worth a crack.

Wilkie - Howard - Webster
Wanganeen Milera - Schoenmaker - Sinclair

Wood - McRae - Hill

Wilson - King - Travaglia
Higgins - Sharman - Owens

Marshall - Steele - Philipou

Boyd - Stocker - Windhager - Butler
Byrnes (sub)

E: Caminiti - Barrat - Garcia - Carroll

Inj - Dow - Henry

Round 1 ping

FB: Webster, Cordy, Wilkie
HB: Sinclair, Caminiti, Nas
C: Wood, Macrae, Wilson
HF: Hall, King, Hill
FF: Higgins, Sharman, Owens
Foll: Heath, Steele, Garcia

Int: Shoenmaker, Butler, Windy, Hastie/Boyd

Sub: Stocker/Carroll/Jones/Byrnes

Really like this team.

Only change, i would swap Caminiti with Schoenmaker as a starting 18.

Love that you have Hastie named over the fringe. He adds good flexibility and is a quality player in the making.

2 genuine mid options are needed on interchange…prefer no Cordy!

I am of the opinion there's little between Cordy and Howard. I realise i am in the miniority on this. :moustache:

Midfield rotation with the above squad below. Makes the Hastie inclusion almost vital with bench rotations and outside to inside rotations we'll need him to fill the gaps.

I am not saying Sinc and NWM play there for long periods but a 10 to 15 minute run here and there will mix things up.

Steele
Macrae
Hugo
Windy
Sinclair
NWM

Yep I can’t see Ross replacing Dougal with Arie under any circumstances tbh

I’d much prefer an Arie, Wilkie, Caminiti combination…Cordy’s a very average footballer
Way too inexperienced. Huge reliance on Wilkie not just talent wise but to set up team defence etc.

Ideally it’s Cordy Wilkie Caminiti with Arie on bench and Hastie sub if opposition fwds are smaller

hoping a few of these unavailable players are good to go, but round 1

B: Webster, cordy, Wilkie
Hb: Sinclair, caminiti, NAS
C: wood, macrae, hastie
Hf: Hill, Sharman, Wilson
F: Higgins, king, owens
Foll: Boyd, Steele, windhager
Int: schoenmaker, stocker, Garcia, butler,
Sub: hall

Unavailable:
Marshall, phillipou, Howard, dow, Henry, Clark,
