St Kilda gone for 2011!

Gram certainly should not have played. Kozi was forced to play because both StKilda's 32 year old ruckmen were either injured or past it. He should have played forward and performed decoy for Riewoldt - but the Saints were forced into playing him in the ruck as poor McEvoy had no other help. Perhaps Pattison should have played but he is shit.

I would defintely have played Dal Santo regardless. He is a quality player.

Dont agree at all. We saw your 23 best player in Davis and we all know how he went.

Exactly.

Gardi to Ben was a big step down.

If Jolly had to be replaced by Wood or Fraser it would have been similar.

If Dawes went down..and you had to play the one dimensional Medhurst or Anthony it would have been a big step down as well.

The Pies "depth" is shown to be what it is by the fact that Malthouse is moving most of them on.

So again. The Saints had a lot of injury disruptions and injured players but still made the GF. That gives me confidence that they will be Top 4 again next year with a good crack at the GF again.

How good will depend on many things including injuries, and how other teams go.

With the Pies, their gameplan and structures will be pondered over Summer. Chinks will emerge.

For example the "unttagable" Swan in both GF's was tagged quite well. He basically only cut loose when the game was over in GF2.Other clubs will roll the tapes on exactly how the Saints players did it, and so Swan will have a harder task in 2011.

Footy never stands still.

We had tons of cover for Dawes, Anthony being one ideal replacement, Reid or one of the Browns being other choices, with Fraser or Presti a possibility to come in. Or Lockyer, Medhurst, or another mid.

Nobody even acknowedged Dawes existence until a few weeks ago. Its funny how quickly Dawes has changed from a one dimensional contested marking plodder to an irreplaceable gun!!!!!

No one believes that and I doubt you even do.

He wasnt that shocking this year... it was more a matter of his role becoming redundant.

We decided to use a CHF as second ruck rather than a specialist ruckman.

And that is something all clubs will copy going forward.

With Jolly out Fraser would have been competitive against the more ordinary ruckmen in the comp. Its not as if StKilda have a Sandilands on their list....

Id suggest it was more had to rather than a well conceived coaching plan. The performance of Fraser and Wood left Collingwood with Brown.

forget the depth question for a moment. we could argue about that all day long.

have a look at the 22's selected for the replay. name me st kilda's bottom 8 players on paper leading into the game and then name me collingwood's bottom 8

And??? Why the replay why not the first GF? Or were the performances against your arguement?

Anything that doesnt conform with your bias is wrong so go figure.

Leigh Brown bulldozed his way into the side (sometimes literally) by providing a dimension to his game that traditional ruckmen cannot provide. If you cant see that then I feel sorry for you. It has nothing to do with bias. Its about team balance. The second ruck is a dying breed.

Other sides have experimented with this during the year - including StKilda and Geelong - and more will do the same next year - especially now that the interchange rules have changed.

You just won the flag, I understand, but you aren't as far ahead of the rest as you like to think. You'll find that out next year.

no i actually i think the pies are that far ahead. performed absolute destroyations of all other members of the top 4 during sept. decisive victories over each of the beaten semi finalists throughout the year and both interstate. two destroyations of one elimination final loser druing h&a, and one destroyation of the other coupled with a 2 pt loss in a game with nothing riding on it in rnd 22 which they would have won anyway if beams kicks the goal

all points to a very dominant team that is some way ahead of the rest. yes, they drew the 1st grand final. all that proved is that even dominant teams can have a bad day. as a geel supporter i am sure you recall GF day 2008

Im sure he does and the team was Hawthorn. They did much the same as Collingwood only to a far healthier team in Geelong. Look how there going.

Love all the 'predictions' in this thread. Let's be honest, most of us have no idea who will win the first game of the 2011 season, let alone who's going to be competitive for the season and who's not.

How many of us picked the Pies to win the 2010 flag at the end of the 2009 season?

That's why I'm amazed at all the Collingwood dynasty talk. It's hard enough to win one flag, let alone multiple. All it's going to take is a few injuries, a few hangovers, and a few second year blues, and the Pies come right back to the field.

Unfortunatley, we're just going to have to sit back and see how it all pans out.

That said, Fraser and Wood were far better backups to our ruck line-up than anything StKilda had - eg King and Pattison. McEvoy clearly showed that he is a few years away.

How so? Fraser was smashed by Gardiner and King in last years finals.

That performance virtually ended his career.

on the back of a 10 touch 2 goal haul in a 10 goal win? because it sure wasn't on the back of his efforts the week before.
