Our main concern this year will be getting beaten up in the middle of the ground. Hopper, Coniglio, Taranto, Green, Kelly and co were just too big and strong for our mids.

Jack Steele is exactly the sort of player who will have a day out against our boys. Powerful, hard as nails, a contested beast. Brad Crouch, too, to a lesser extent. But after that, there's not loads of big-bodied depth running through the Saints midfield with their current injury list. So, if Adams can help us break even in the contest, we're a chance.

So much hinges on Adams for us this year. After him, our depth in big-bodied, contested mids is paper thin.

Seems you're forgetting about De Goey, who will be playing in the midfield.

Last year clearly showed he's far more suited to play in the midfield, and we need him there much more than we need him forward.

Lippa wont be on the wing. His role is primary inside midfielder, stints up forward, but primary mid. But otherwise not bad.

I think the early part of the season will be very frustrating, new game plan will take time to bed down. This will cost us games, the element of surprises is however in our favour.

We were seldom beaten badly under Buckley with his pressure game plan…I big margin is prospect either way under fly. Skills generally aren’t as sharp in the early stages of the season.

On the balance of all that I tip a draw :)

De Goo is a big body and can definitely win his own ball, but he operates in a much more offensive manner. I wouldn't back him in to get his nose dirty at the bottom of packs all day long, like I would with Adams.

Hope he proves me wrong and adds a hard defensive edge to his game!

Id love to be wrong, but i cannot see us winning this, we are now very young and inexperienced. This season will be a learning experience for our youngsters, and our new Coach, and we have to be patient, as this team rebuilds now. Saints by 14 points, but we will have a red hot go, no doubt of that, as we will in most games.

Adam’s Crisp Lipinski Maynard T. Brown and JDG all have enough size to negate your fears.

Hey guys,
Im going to the game on Friday with a few mates. I don't go to marvel very often. I got general admission tickets, on the ticket it says GA5, does that mean the whole of gate 5 is open to general admission tickets?

I"ll feel a lot better if Kelly is playing back over Madgen

Not suggesting Kelly is some great backman or anything, but we need height back there. It can't just be Moore. I think Keely should be able to hold his own with experienced heads around him, which is what he'll have in Pendles, Moore and Howe.

I just want to see Kelly given a run of games down back, especially whilst Roughy is out. If he's going to make it as a footballer, that's his position.

Agreed. While his debut showed promise as a forward, every subsequent appearance in that position indicates he's not suited to the position.

While his appearances down back haven't been showstoppers by any stretch, he definitely has the physical attributes and demonstrated an ability to perform more competently down there.

We're also crying out for depth with key position backs, which I'd argue is a more important position to have depth in.

B. Howe - Kelly - IQ

H.B Pendles - Moore - N Daicos

C. J Daicos - Adams - Sidebottom

HF Elliot - Mihocek - Henry

F. Ginnivan - Cox - WHE

Foll: Grundy Lipinski DeGoey

Inter: Noble Crisp Poulter McCrae

I think this will be pretty close to the selected side for Friday night. I expect the selection committee will err on being cautious and will hold back some of the younger guys but our cupboard is pretty bare.

Looking at our list and going through this exercise I see our list as pretty thin on the ground. Cox ad Mihocek as key forwards aren't going to cause to many sleepless nights for opposition backs

I'm looking forward to the season even though I see us as a bottom 4 or 5 list

This is how I've been feeling all pre season. I'm genuinely excited, even though I believe were likely to be a bottom 5 team. It's something of a relief to go into the year with no expectations and just wanting to see some kids get a crack.

Without Maynard and Roughy we need Crisp down back to start, then switch with Pendles
But I think that McRae will go with Madgen over Kelly and Tyler over Finn
