And still make it hard for the player to catch!

yeah haha - I thought he had a decent game last week v cats but last night went back to his normal shocking disposal.

I hope he just clicks one day and becomes a star.

I still think he should play up forward a little more.

- I've said this for a while, but Dean Cox is the most overrated player in our team. He's a good ruckman, and well above average around the ground, but for me he is now well behind Naita in importance.
Good post overall, but I can't agree with this point.

Cox has been the best ruckmen in the AFL by far, a lock for AA. Nick is still a lil' on the inconsistent side for mine - the brilliance fluctuates a little bit too much to put ahead of Cox imo.

I think Cox is having a great year but Naitanui is catching up to him so quickly.

We'll look back on these games in a few years and think "how sweet was it having Cox and Naitanui both almost in full flight in the same team?".
Great perspective, Jimmy.

It's unfortunate we don't have an A+ midfield to take advantage of this ruck dominance.

yeh i dont get all the heartbreaking loss stuff..nor the furious, seething, angry stuff either..its just a game of footy..i know some invest a lot of emotions and expectations..but really,we cant complain, its been a good run..and we hold our position.

i agree that we were due a loss otherwise if we never lose again-its a bloody miracle!!?
we always thought we'd lose at least one from those three,if not two.(blues, cats, saints)
so why all the wailing+gnashing of teeth..its okay,we learn from it..i think we looked tired all day, but we still wrestled back 6 goals and took the lead..great resolve.
i just know were gonna make a statement against the saints when they play pattersons-and thatll be sweet.
i just hope we get kerr back(and mcginnity),and get our heads screwed on right for the derby!!!

You're probably right, and I probably overdid it a bit with that post :p

My only problems with Coxy at the moment are his failure to adapt to midfield trends. For example, him feeding in tight last week when Geelong we're getting on top of the contested ball, and last night when he didn't really change much to stop feeding it the Saints mids. Plus his playing for frees shits me no end :p

It just feels to me that we're more likely to make something happen with Naita in the ruck, but like what Jimmy said, it's certainly a luxury having the two of them playing so well!

I'm the same, he's as quick/quicker than the mids and his reflexes allow him to take the tap and then instantly go into inside mid mode. Cox is a star of course but I love Nats freakish qualities and influence a tiny bit more.

I was sitting with a lot of Cats fans last week and they much preferred Cox in the ruck as Naita just continuously got it going our way. Both guns though.

Naita was unbelievable at times last night. It's a good point someone brought up, St Kilda was all over us at the stoppages and Naita's response in the second half was the bludgeon it out of the ruck 25m downfield and we'd generally make something of it. St Kilda were killing us out of congestion, way too slick.

Agreed.

Is there a stat that relates ruck hits outs to successful attacking plays. NN appears to make things happen far more so than Cox.

Perhaps Cox need to take a role to run opponents off their legs to exacerbate NN's impact.
